The cruise was not a very good experience for us. When travel agent was selling us the ship, we were told us it is comparable to the royal caribbean fleet. We came in this ship expecting similar conditions for the ship and we were shocked by the general condition and the lack of cleanliness. He did not sell this as an inferior quality cruise liner. When we complained at the reception desk we were told to wait to the end of the cruise and express our thoughts in the opinion survey. About the ship - Horizon: Ship itself is old and run down, probably should be retired. With alleged major refurbishment in 2012 only certain areas looked acceptable and that did not include cabins. About our cabin: bathroom smelled like urine 90% of the time, vanity top pealing, cabin AC not working, bathroom light not working, the showers were mildewy, furnishings dated and worn out, towels had seen better days, carpet was filthy and with stains It was very noisy in the rooms, we could hear our loud neighbors, as well as people calling on each other from the hallways. The majority of the passengers were spaniards and they are loud! Most passengers did not use the disinfectant machines People smoke almost everywhere outdoors The staff was friendly and helpful. The value for money was poor compared to what is on offer elsewhere. Read Less

The cruise was not a very good experience for our group. I think if you have any other non spanish speaking cruisers who want to go on this cruise you need to discourage them. If you didn't speak spanish you didn't know what was going on, and the crew members where rude and actually ignored us because we didn't speak spanish. The entertainment was all in spanish. When you said it was own by a spanish group, I didn't think the entertainment, the annoucements and basically everything was in spanish. We were literally a minority on this ship. It got to be comical when we found somebody who actually spoke english. One of the people in the group purchased the internet package, which she had trouble with all the time. She went to the IT desk and they supposedly fixed it but it was only fixed for a few hours. She then went to the Customer Service desk who told her she would have to go to the IT desk. When she said she already did that and just kind of shrugged their shoulders. She replied by saying aren't you customer service, you need to fix this or refund my money. I don't think they ever fixed it. The ship was a diseaster, the rooms where falling apart. In our cabin, the drawers on the desk were screwed shut (2 of them) the rug was splitting at the seams and the TV was positioned where you couldn't watch it from the bed. My daughter had to wear shoes to get up to the bunk because the ladder was not made for bare feet. As far as the cabin steward, I have no idea who it was. We never saw him, the only thing he did was make our bed. I am use to the bed being turned down with some kind of towel animal with maybe a chocolate or note. Not this cruise. We usually cruise with Carnival and thought they were low class, but this ship took the cake. They say the drinks are included, which means there is no bar service around the pool. You have to go to the bar and get a drink and if you didn't speak spanish, forget it you were last on the service list. Also, the variety of drinks themselves was minimal. If you paid the extra $14 euro per day you could get what you wanted. But, if you didn't, you were stuck with liquor brands that I have never heard of. The food was also terrible. I am not a picky eater but the food was less quality than fast food. The breakfast buffet was watery eggs, uncooked bacon and I had to actually ask for butter. Who doesn't put butter out for breakfast. Also, If you wanted milk, you had to ask for it or get it out of the Urn that people where using to get for their cereal. Luckily, we were not on the ship for lunch and ate good while we were on the islands. The dinner selection was basically the same every night except they had 1 different dish daily. If you didn't like that, then you ate the same thing all week. The service in the dining room was terrible. I don't think you should have to ask for more water/drinks and again butter for the rolls. For all the cruises that I have been on (probably 10 to 12), all served soft serve ice cream 24 hours a day, not this cruise. There was no ice cream anywhere other than the dining room at dinner. I could go on and on about how bad this cruise experience was. I don't normally complain, but this time I think I will post on Cruise critic so future cruisers will be aware. Read Less

If Pullmantur can save a dime on something, it will end up costing you $1. They will either tender or find the cheapest dock space there is available. Stockholm= tender to port in another town (up to 2.5 hours wait), walk 15 min to train station or pay $5 for shuttle, 1 hr train to town for $20. All the connections really limit your time available. Copenhagen= dock in another country, 15 min walk to train station, $25 for 1/2 hr train to town. Berlin= $30 shuttle to train station, $60 for 2 hour train to town. Most of the shows were in Spanish (known fact). Lifeboat drill is in English (towards the end). Loud PA announcements every hour to alert of pending sales in the: casino, gift shop, spa, internet and bingo. Reception never had change for a 20 to tip with, the casino would not give change unless you were playing their games. Read Less

I came into this trip with low expectations—we got a great price and figured even if it wasn’t great it would be fine. Never again. Firstly, the food was dreadful. I have never been on a cruise where I literally couldn’t get eggs how I wanted: if you didn’t want eggs with ham, or fried, you were out of luck. Unfortunately all of the meals—except the captains dinner—were the same every day, and got old very very fast. Everything onboard was a cash grab. Top shelf liquor or internet is, to me, an acceptable thing to up charge for. Charging for bottles of water in the room, when I have an unlimited beverage package? Cash grab. Having my waiter sell me on a better dinner for the next day at the end of today’s? Cash grab. It’s the little things that make you feel gross. On top of that, the pool was closed every day—including a day at port when it was 85 degrees with calm seas. I have no complaints about the housekeeping or dining room staff but training across the bars left a lot to be desired: I couldn’t get juice, because my unlimited beverage package somehow didn’t include it—except it did, at all the other bars. I had no problems with it being spanish speaking, except that for excisions they couldn’t tell me until 8:00 the day before if they’d have an English tour—which meant I needed to make my own plans, for each port. The room wasn’t in great shape, but it was acceptable; same for the boat, but for the extra four hundred dollars I’d rather go on a trip where nobody stuffed their hand in my pocket and where I can swim in nice weather. It was advertised as a Xmas cruise..Spanish don't do Xmas As I found out. The food in the main dining room was strictly rationed. No international cuisine only Spanish. No coffee except on 2nd sitting which commenced at 2145 so who was that catering for almost exclusively Spanish. The cabin was basic but comfortable.interestingly has 2 bunk beds on the walls.. Just like a car ferry..which basically this was minus cars. The service was ok and the excursions were overall good value and interesting. The entertainment was for a Spanish audience and not of high quality. The bars were few and crowded until 2145 when second sitting started. I met a number of fellow cruisers who would not travel again on this ship. It bears no resemblance to a modern cruise ship. The food was basic and small portions with almost no vegetables or salads and no deviation from starter, main, desert. There was no coffee,no cheese plate and we were ushered out quickly at 9 to allow 2nd sitting at 2145. Read Less

This boat had mixed emotions from me....I thought I would have enjoyed it, but unfortunately I'm monolingual, and they're more concerned with their Spanish and French Guest. The TV stations were all in Spanish, well barring CNN and one movie station, which showed the same thing over and over. The food was okay, it had it's moments... The staff were friendly, even though one crew member openly told me he hated his job. The kids club was in spanish and my son, had serious challenges....but still went along, because there was nothing else to do. My cabin, So my cabin was huge, a lovely ocean view, huge bathroom....BUTTTTT let me tell you, clearly disinfectant and bleach is a no no, because the bathroom was horrible...we were told not to flush toilet paper, but place it in the bin. so image what happened when you had to number two..... Im not sure how sanitary that is, for us or the housekeepers. The towels were dingy, there were no facetowels, the sheets were not that clean either. A whole floor on the boat couldn't flush their toilets, and the pee and feces was floating in the public toilets...I was not.......impressed and if I had not cruised before, I wouldn't attempt to do it again. I choose this cruise as we life and work in Tenerife, and it was meant to be a relaxing break after a hectic Christmas. I've been on other cruises, there's always a sail away party, on the Horizon we were made to attend a safety drill, not a problem, but after 10pm at night? the ship basically slipped away at 11.30ish soon after, nothing, first impressions, poor. The second night, 'Beatles Tribute' in the Theatre which turned out to be the resident band, as was every other Tribute or show, overall entertainment was non existent during the day unless you wanted a talk on acupuncture, and the evenings weren't any better, no atmosphere at all anywhere, even the piped music was drab. Food, I am a vegetarian, every breakfast consisted of cold cuts, cheese, muesli and fruit, nothing hot at all, and wheras a couple of days of this is OK it soon wore thin eating cold toast and jam every day and the concept of a cup of tea with milk just drew blank looks. The breakfast buffet closed at 10.30 or 11am. The 'Grill and Pizzeria' opened at 12, the Vegetarian option was frozen pizza, chips, possibly a cheese roll if there were any left. Lunch Buffet, 1pm until 4, meat and fish every day with salad, Vegetarian option, potatoes, pasta, every day. Basically is you don't like meat or fish you cannot eat anything until 7.15 at night from 4pm, they decided to not open the evening Buffet this week, so you were required to be in the main restaurant around 7.15pm if you wanted to eat. My wife ordered steak, and that's what she got, no side dishes, the menu for me was the same every night apart from the Chef's recommendation which was mostly a rice dish in a sauce, the portions were minute, of the 7 nights we only went three times and choose to live on the minibar contents or eat off the ship. In summary, the ship needs a lot of refurbishment, it's on it's last legs, two mornings all the toilets on the ship stopped working, and every night the Junior Suite I had stank of raw sewage untill we learned to block the sink holes. There's so much wrong with this cruise I could go on all day, it's not even a good ferry standard, the ONLY upside the staff are very freindly and helpful, and if it wasn't for them we would have got off half way through. On leaving the ship when security swiped my card an alarm rang and I was refused exit in front of everyone, because I owed 4 euros on the minibar (which I had paid at reception and had the receipt) I was made to tramp back up to be told the receptionist had forgotten to take it off the system. On booking I was told the ship catered for an International clientele, this is not the case. I'll never use Pullmantur again. Read Less

18 days all inclusive from Malaga to the Caribbean sounded like a good idea at the time. When we arrived on the ship we had to go along a soaked carpet leading to our cabin, the cabin itself was not to bad until one of us decided we needed to use the toilet, not working, it was on and off like this for the whole cruise. The public toilets was also in the same situation it became a game of finding one that worked. At night we were kept awake for all but 3 nights by the horrendous sound of the engines, in the day when the ship picked up speed the noise quietened down so some sleep could be had. The dining room was well organised which is more than can be said for the food, breakfast were cold so was the tea and coffee, evening meal was just as bad poor selection, small quantities and cold. So many other people were complaining you had a long wait for your turn, people were so fed up with situation they took their bedding to reception and slept on the floor, the reception staff were very unhelpful and the captain was nowhere to be founds so all complaints fell on deaf ears. Basically the ship should never have started this cruise and I would suggest anybody thinking of going with Pullmantur think again. Read Less

There were 8 of us on this cruise, most of us being first time cruisers and I can tell you, it wasn't a great experience. As I had never been on a cruise before I had nothing to compare against but I do know that this ship was in no fit state to leave port. My first impressions on arriving on the ship was not great. We were given our cabin numbers to our rooms which seemed a good size and clean. The bathroom shower was very good although tiles etc was very tired looking but that was to be expected being an old ship I guess. Plenty of hanging and drawer space and good size bed. Wasn't pleased about having to put all toilet paper in the bin and not down toilet though. Later to find out why as the toilets would not flush on a regular basis. We were greeted with large air drying machines in the corridors to dry the soaking wet carpets From water leaks. Also leaks from ceilings with buckets under. The first night in our cabin was horrendous. We had been to the entertainment that evening and when we arrived late to our cabin we was faced with terrible noises and vibrations coming from beneath us, then realising we were right above the engines and propellers. Needless to say we had no sleep that night or the night after. We reported it to reception but they didn't seem interested and said that it was normal. My husband could not put up with the noise and went down to reception and slept on the floor as it was quieter and needed to sleep. I soon joined him and as I did reception found us a room for that night as they didn't want us to sleep in reception. This went on each night with us going to reception requesting another cabin to sleep in as they refused to move us permanently to a quieter room. Our poor friends were not so fortunate. The tap water was yellow in the bathroom but as we had no other water we had no choice but to brush our teeth in it. There was no free bottled water on the ship. There were maintenance men working in some of the cabins doing refurbs so there was very strong adhesive smells in the corridors as well as burning smells and noise from there disk cutters. The men were often in white over suits with masks on. This is what we were breathing in as well as the fumes from the diesel when the ship was refuelling. The food however was good. The menu choice in the second week changed in the formal dining which was not so good but by this time we had an option to eat in the other restaurant which was not open the first week due to flooding. The buffet was very good as you could pick what you wanted and a good variety. Waiter service could be slow but they were always friendly and polite. The air con in the restaurant was sometimes uncomfortably cold. Cabins were cleaned daily and bed made. Disorganisation and lack of information on the excursions and deporting procedures. Entertainment was not very professional but some nights was good. One of the entertainment halls were out of use second week as it was closed for private function so space was limited and you couldn't get a seat for a coffee or drink in the mocha bar after dinner and everywhere else was packed. Overall the cost of the cruise was very good but knowing what I now know, I would have paid more to have had a decent ship or not gone at all. Read Less

The bar was open too late as at 4.30 in the morning we were awoken by screams and shouts going past the door. The tours were apalling, no organisation on the ship at all, we were always the last off the ship. Then almost at the end of the cruise we had food poisoning, a final insult to a horrendous trip. The only good thing was the exceptional service at dinner by our waiter and waitress, nothing was too much trouble, the food was good so why we were ill is a mystery. The cruise is aimed at a specific nationality, we always felt we were not included, we will not be travelling with Pulmantur again, nightmare ! The tours were for fit people that could walk for 7 hours and not have any food or drink, that is what happened to us. Read Less

We choose the cruise because we went to Cartagena to get married. So my husband and I decided that would be a good idea take the cruse there. I'm going to do a favor to people who like read reviews: Please don't take that cruise. The food was awful, in all restaurants, breaksfast buffets the same every day, just few things to eat, the eggs were the worst I've ever had. People who go there are unrespecful, I even have a problem with a guy in the casino who asked me and my husband money to bet, was unbelievable. Times to eat were very limited. Please don't go, it`s very bad cruise. The chair at the pool and in the bar 360, so old and even broken. Seriously, I don't understand why that company still working. The stops in each port were very short, mostly from 7 to 2; well the cruise get at 7 but then you have to wait to get off the boat, it`s a process and it takes too much time. I definetely won't take that cruise with that company anymore and I recommend people don't do it either. The experience was terrible. Cabin was pretty old, dining terrible, service was poor, entertaiment was poor, excurtions was poor, they don't have in English any excursion. Read Less

I will never go on Horizon again. The ship is falling to pieces. Our toilet did not work for the whole duration of the cruise. Room furniture old and shabby. Drawers without back, mattress worn out and balcony furniture very rusty and chairs full of thorns. During our stay the ship was grounded in Stavenger harbour. Definitely customers were not to blame for this but they suffered the consequences. No empathy shown to customers. Information provided was very scant. No alternative tours offered in substitution of the Geiranger Excurcion which we lost till the ship was repaired. Air conditioner in the restaurant always out of order. Avoid it at all costs. Only positive was the level of food. We had to spend long hours on the ship, with very minimal entertainment during the day. We went on this cruise liner to celebrate our 30 wedding anniversary. It turned out to be a nightmare. Read Less

A nightmare. The Horizon is old and cabins need refurbishing badly. Our cabin (which they call state room) was very tatty and with a bad smell. Not very welcoming. As one would expect in a 1 Star hotel or less. Mattress was worn out and hollow on the sides, toilet suction inefficient, flooded balcony, rusty table and torn rattan chairs without cushions in balcony. The restaurant was extremely hot. Daily promises that they were going to fix the Air Conditioner did not materialise. The list is endless. Nowhere in their marketing material did they say that this was an inferior quality cruise liner. To top it all, the ship ran aground on a sandbank when leaving Stavanger. We felt this was ridiculous with all the navigational tools available in this day and age. Information about the incident was minimal and we did not know what was going on except that the ship was tilted on one side. We obtained most of the information from the internet. The ship couldn't leave the port and we missed two ports and the best excursion, which we were really looking forward to. Suitable alternative and reasonable excursions or entertainment were not provided while we were stuck in port. Had to spend a lot of time on the vessel just being idle. Besides, we were all very anxious about the condition of the ship following the incident, hoping that proper repairs were carried out and the ship would be seaworthy to sail the North Sea. The trauma of the incident ruined the rest of the holiday and we were very disappointed with the way we were treated. The only positive thing was the food. Very good variety and excellent quality. Well done to the chef. But that was mainly it. We will definitely not travel again with this cruise line and would not recommend it to my family and friends. Read Less

“Croisieres de France” (CDF) avoid at all costs !!! Cruise with “Croisieres de France” Date 18-25 join 2016 destination Norwegian Fjords Cabin 9106 First of all the only thing French about “Croisieres de France” is the name andthe terrible organisation. CDF claim gourmet cooking “Gault Millau” but the quality turned out to be at best A 2 star Tunisian hotel quality and at its worst about “works canteen” level. The evening meal was a 3 course (compared with 5 or 6 on MSC cruises) for example it was cheese or desert! (MSC offer cheese ET dessert) Twice the main course was so bad that my wife sent it back. The serving staff had trouble understanding French and many of them spoke no French at all so we had to point to the dish or drink on the menu Funnily enough the waiters had trouble understanding what we ordered but spoke enough French to explain how we should fill out the cruise evaluation The “gala” dinner was held on the second night of the cruise. There was no difference with other Nights. There was no animation or music, and neither the Captain nor any officers deigned to appear; in fact the only officers we saw during the whole cruise were the 2 or 3 who seemed to have bought their family with them and although in uniform one of them was often seen kissing and cuddling his wife (girlfriend?) in the passenger area The catering staff also spent a lot of time trying to sell cheap watches, handbags and scarves every day in one of the gangways adjoining the bar area which was so crowded it was often impossible to pass. İf you only speak English it is great to be able to order a drink without having to point it out on the bar card, but you don’t qualify for any information about disembarking or activities on board. That was always done in very strongly accented French which was also difficult for French people to understand, despite the fact that there were many English speaking guests aboard. During the day and at the Buffets meals, there seemed to be groups of serving staff stang aroung chatting together in their language and not really interested in making sure that the passengers were being taken care of. Now for the best part of the “rip-off” We booked a cabin with a balcony, and this was supposed to give us the packet “Privelege” With:- - A dedicated hostess. -A “personalised signed copy of the Gala menu” - plus one or two other small perks which we received (Spğarkling wine for the depart. Bathrobes etc) The hostess was in fact a host who had his hours of presence clearly defined on a noticeboard. Three times I went to see him at the and twice he was absent! The last time anothermember of staff suggested taking my table number so the the host could see me during the evening meal, the next day I asked him why he had not passed to see us, he told me he had passed but we weren’t there. So we asked the other membersat our table who assured us that no one had come to see us (that is the level of service “privilege” As for the personalized and signed copy of the Gala menu everyone on our table, who were not in the “privilege” packet received the same cheap photocopie. Every day the balcony floor was littered with pieces of food thrown to the seagulls by the passengers on the deck above. We are French-speaking Swiss and our booking was done though a French travel-agent but we received the daily News-sheet in English and the result that we were not informed about the French-speaking activities taking place (example we missed all the conferences about Norway and its history). One of the crise organizers told us on the last day that Belgian and Swiss-French customers were considered as “English speakers” by CDF! So if you’re looking for a cruise …. NEVER Again! let me first start off by saying we were 6 Canadians who thought we'd give a different cruise line a chance. We have sailed 13 times prior with NCL , Royal and Celebrity but thought we'd try something different this time. We are all in our early 40's as well just to give you an idea. We were definetly the minority on the ship. The Announcements were made first in spanish and then in English but still garbled and hard to understand. All and i mean All of the entertainment on board was Spanish only. Which meant that any pool side games...night time entertainment or any goings on around the ship were Spanish only. just be sure you are aware of that going in. The food. Again compared to past cruises...The food was mediocre. We certainly didnt starve but it was nothing like the cruises we've been on in the past. Dinner seatings were 730 and 1030. Late by our standards but there was NO food anywhere between 330 and 730 pm. If you came back hungry from an excursion or the beach. Well too bad. No food available till dinner time! This would have to be the first cruise where you've ever heard me say "'Im hungry" Two seperate dinners our group barely ate as the meals were close to not edible. Drinks were again Mediocre. We had the supposive drink package? that was a joke! You had one beer to choose from . Miller lite. That was it. and one Slushie drink to choose from. Pina Coloda. In fact we asked for them to make our drink of choice into a slushy by adding ice and blending it and were told they werent allowed?? Noone went out of their way to make us happy ! Ship itself is old and run down. Our friends found a cockroach in their closet!!! the showers were mildewy beds uncomfortable Pool Deck. We woke up one morning to find blood on the deck. it appeared someone hurt themselves the night prior and it trailed from the pool deck into the elevator area and all over the railings. There was a staff member right there ...visible to her eyes but yet noone was cleaning it? we told 3 people. 2 hours later ...noone had cleaned it up! We finally told someone in a white suit how disgusting that was and insisting on someone cleaning it up! Even after clean up spots of blood were still seen on deck. Ashtrays always full. Glasses all over the table from the night prior Again not something i'm used to in the cruising industry Entertainment was a joke. I seriously questioned whether they asked the kitchen staff to come out and dance for entertainment. we bragged to our friends how great the entertainment on board cruise ships were and well lets just say we walked out after 30 min. Gave it a second chance night 4 and again walked out. Staff were generally okay. the guy that cleaned our room and our wait staff in the dining room were actually pretty amazing. they both spoke english and did their best to make our stay with them better. If it were not for the itineary and the group we travelled with this trip would have been a bust. But we made the best of it and came out with some great memories anyways. My advice. Book a NCL Royal Caribbean or elsewhere. Dont waste your time or money here Read Less
