Wanted to visit Panama and Grand Carman but poor choice of time do to Covid-19. Even so. It was a nice cruise and appreciate the great service we received. Room was outstanding and kept that way the entire trip. Staff and all attendants were always friendly. Even under our serious situation the captain and his staff made this trip an enjoyable one. Never did we feel we were in trouble or under any threat of being endanger. To be truthful most of us on that ship felt safer than what we were returning to. There are not too many things we do in life that we have to experience a trip during some very difficult life threatening times. I applauded the CEO for her choice of shutting down future voyages for 60 days till this terrible virus passes. I wish them the very best. They have put profits aside as they do care about their clients. I say this with all sincerity. Thank you Princess Cruises Read Less

Our cruise started off on a great with a speedy embarkation. However, we got to the room & a balcony chair was broken & our tv (multiple times). Then due to a medical emergency, we were delayed leaving princess cay, which then made us late for St. John (the whole reason we booked this cruise was for hiking St. John national park). Princess rebooked but then we were delayed by port authority and without communication, we missed the ferry to St. John and our excursion. Sure we got our money back but then we had to venture out in a foreign place alone to get there. Now Sint Maarten was great. on the way home, our ship was quarantined due to transferring two crew members from a Coronavirus infected ship to our ship & cdc not allowing us to port. So we missed out on Kennedy space center. The food at the first half of the cruise was not great but it did get better starting after St. John. Sure princess did what they could in both situations but it was not what we expected on our first cruise Read Less

I choose this cruise because wanted to do the Panama Canal it was our first time with Princess and will be the last time. The food was terrible with no variety with lots of junk food deep fried We like fine dining there were none It’s started at the airport pick up 3 hrs late and 2 hrs to embark cruise we were supposed to leave at 4 pm and left at 8.30 Very disorganized. They left people in line for 2 hr not even offering water or chairs for the elderly Wen we disembark to the island took 1.30 to get back on the cruise in Panama in a tender with a five minute ride they were very disorganized The service on the cruise was very good from the front desk to the restaurant very good service We talk to other people that took Princess many times and will not comeback on Princess simply because of their food is not the same they cut back Read Less

We booked this cruise on the Golden Princess for our Golden wedding anniversary. We had to pay an extra $630 above the advertised price in the Herald Sun. When moving into our cabin (Stateroom is a joke) we found it contained two bunks folded against the walls above the double bed. This made it very hard to try and get around the bed to get into it. Fortunately our very helpful cabin steward suggested splitting the bed into two singles. This had to do. When moving in and using the drawers some of them would fall open as well as not closing properly through jamming. The desk timber was not in good condition and the whole cabin had the air of general neglect. The Horizon Court is a good place to eat but mostly the cooked food was tepid or cold. This is common on all the Princess cruises we have sailed. The ship however is a good one to cruise on. She is fairly stable and for her age, still tight. We did enjoy the cruising but it was soured by the above issues particularly the unfair price gouge. Read Less

We wanted to celebrate our 48th anniversary and we've always enjoyed Princess. Our experience on the Island Princess and now the Crown means we'll only use Princess if it is a newer ship. We had fun on the cruise. We did any time dining and shared tables and every meal we met great folks, had good conversations and decent, sometimes great food. Our room was a mini suite and while old, it was nice, that is our perfect size on Princess. Princess comped us a dinner at Crown Grille for our anniversary and the dinner and the fact they gave it to us were both appreciated. We enjoyed the ports but were sorry to miss Princess Cay. Snorkeling in Bonaire was excellent. My husband had to ask three times to have an old, deflated soccer ball pumped up so he could use it. The gym was nice. Princess should not have this ship in service with the generator issue. Like another reviewer, I have never been seasick in my life and I got horribly seasick one day on this trip. If stabilizers can't be powered or the ship can't power through the waves, why is it being used for cruises? Princess told my travel agent this would be fixed before our trip and should have known it would not be. I heard this issue has been ongoing for months. The spa is amazingly high priced for mediocre services and the staff can barely talk to you because they have to push products the entire time. If you change the subject, they are primed to circle back to selling products. Effy is truly an issue on Princess. A lot of listed activities on board have to do with tacky little Effy give aways. Jewelry is pumped and pushed and hyped. Inside the store it is like a circus event with jewelry pushed to the mostly single female customers who by the end of the trip were fawning over the salespeople, hanging out at the counters, cooing to the salespeople. My husband and I walked out of the store and didn't go back because we were embarrassed for the customers. It isn't like Effy is special to ships, it is all over the internet. They actually ring a bell and cheer when a sale if made. What on earth is that all about???? Truly over done. The Horizon court was o.k., food was decent, never good, but you were always fed. The International Cafe was exceptional, everything was always good, service was great, it probably had the best food on the ship. We found all but a few of the crew to be pleasant and helpful, sometimes very helpful. We signed up for another cruise to the Caribbean but it will be on the Sky Princess next year. No more old Princess ships for us. Read Less

We joined six other family members on this cruise. This was our second time sailing on a princess ship. Boarding took a bit of time and we had to wait quite awhile, but disembarkment was extremely smooth. We had an aft cabin, unfortunately it was located next to a noisy vent. Making it hard to sleep. We enjoyed the trivia games, but did not care for the musical productions. Our whole group enjoyed shopping in St Thomas. Bonaire was a waste of time, not worth going ashore for. We had a blast in Aruba snorkeling. The movies under the stars were very relaxing and enjoyable. Food was mostly mediocre to good. We received wonderful service from Lucy at the service desk, she was so sweet, pleasant and totally willing to help. This ship skipped a port due to engine problems that they were aware of for months. I am not sure we will travel with princess again. Read Less

My first experience with Princess and I have to say on this size ship it will probably be my last. The ship itself was fine, although the elevators were always crammed with people and mobility scooters etc. which made getting from the lower decks to the Horizon buffet on level 15 tedious and frustrating. The cabin was well fitted out and comfortable. The beds were probably the highlight, so comfortable. The balcony area on our level 9 (Dolphin) deck was ok, but because of the design of the ship, those above you had a direct view of the balcony which gave an uneasy feeling when you were out there that prying eyes were always watching. Other than that the new sensor lights mounted to the bottom of the bedside tables were annoying coming on in the middle of the night if a blanket or sheet moved in front of the sensor. The same for the sensor light near the closet/bathroom area which turned a dark cabin into a broadway production in the middle of the night if someone used the bathroom. We chose to use the dining room where a dedicated seat was always available rather than fight for a table in the buffet dining areas where groups would congregate and reserve/hold tables for friends to not only eat but to play cards and games denying those who wanted to eat somewhere to sit. The buffet capacity to properly provide seating spaces for the 3,500 odd passengers onboard is inadequate in my opinion. The service from the waiters was good and of a consistent nature. But to watch people constantly flouting the clean your hands before you enter policy in the buffet area in these days of corona was mind boggling. The food in the dining room was of an excellent quality, but choices of meals if you might not like some of the items listed was limited. The buffet food was again good although certain items ran out and were not renewed. Attended the Princess theatre on most nights and can only comment that the newly formed Irish group 'Emerald Tide' were probably the best act I have ever seen on any cruise, they were superb and received standing ovations. They should be a name that others, not only those on a Princess cruises will hear about in the future..Magnificent instrumentalists, singers (Giselle, what a voice) and dancer. An Australian violinist Patrick Roberts was also fantastic, his adaptions of classic songs with his violin was something to believe. The service from all the staff and crew onboard was great and courteous, not one crew member would pass you without saying hello or stopping to talk. The ports visited, Bay of Islands tour to the hole in the rock was great, a self conducted tour of Tauranga and Mount Maunganui was a surprise, if I can say one thing, don't worry about a self guided tour of Tauranga, spend your time in Mount Maungani it's far better than the bigger town. Opted for our own thing in Auckland having visited before. Napier the same, Wellington again the same. Akoroa/Christchurch we were shuttled 1.5 hrs from Akoroa to Christchurch and 1.5 hrs back again which does not leave a whole lot of time to see much of Christchurch and virtually nothing of Akoroa, Port Chalmers/ Dunedin, this was probably my favourite port, Dunedin surprised me, it was the best port for shopping or finding items than any of the other ports, yes it was freezing compared to the other ports but it was great, the last leg of the cruise before leaving NZ waters was The Fiordlands and Milford Sound which fortunately the ship was able to pass through, unbelievable scenery and photo opportunities galore. My final comment would be for all excursions whether you did a booked excursion or did it yourself is that not enough time is provided in port to really get a good look around and that is for all ports visited. Would I do it again? probably but on a smaller ship, large amounts of pasengers brings with it arrogance, nasty behaviour and rudeness, not from the crew, from the passengers. This is something I have never encountered on smaller ships. Read Less

Our 7th princess cruise and we felt the food quality is in a downward spiral in terms of flavor, quality and choice. We love Princess but might have to try some different lines and are open to recommendations? Coffee on board was terrible and we resolved to start bringing our own with a small filter and drip solution. Entertainment on this cruise was great on the positive side. Disembarkation held up by health checks from Australia government but handled well by cruise staff. Bigger delay for next passengers leaving the same day. Ruby was in good shape and well maintained, staff were very well trained in customer service and making our interactions positive and pleasant. Cabin was discretely kept clean, serviced and well supplied by steward daily. He was virtually invisible to us but always on top of things. We already have another cruise booked for October, but let me know if you have recommendations for better food from other similar class cruise lines that would be in our budget range like princess? The cruise was free from a L .V. Casino. We did pay $99 to upgrade to a deluxe balcony from the free inside room. Cabin steward Herman was wonderful, efficient and readily met all of our requests. Dining waiter, Oliver, remembered us and our preferences from a previous cruise. A superb job. Now to the big negatives. Disappointed by the lack of preparation for virus, especially since Princess already had two quarantined ships. No one permanently stationed at buffet entrances to insure that everyone wash their hands. In view of the crisis, did not have crew serve, allowed everyone to get their hands on everything...this is how virus spreads. Bad news. Proper cleaning products to clean tables were not used after every guest. Chairs were not wiped down. The buffet should be off limits unless Princess properly addresses sanitation. Ditto for proper cleaning supplies in room. We spent an hour with products we brought on board to clean every knob, drawer, service. Room rug was dirty and worn, needs immediate replacement. Couch is made of material and must be shampooed, which it was not. Throw pillows on couch should have zippers so they can be washed and changed between each and every cruise. Princess must step up and do a much better job during this crisis. Additionally pre-screening before boarding was non-existent. We only had to fill out a small form, people lie. No temperature taking, no simple verbally checking and questioning. Way too loose of an operation. We cancelled our upcoming cruise. Read Less

Overall score would be closer to 4 than 3 stars. Royal Princess was a solid traditional cruise ship and experience for their great service and good food. As a couple in their mid 30's, we felt we were the youngest on the ship and most of the activities/clientele weren't really catered to us(which is fine because we expected this) but I would not recommend this cruise line for anyone under 40 years due to that. For a lazy, relaxing, no frills get away... this cruise will check all the boxes regardless of age. Departed to Mexican Riviera 2/22/20 for 7 nights in a deluxe Balcony for $524 pp. Booked last 'minute' in mid January. Itinerary was great except it was cold/chilly due to overcast weather the two days leaving LA and the two days returning back to LA. Weather in Mexico was sunny but not hot enough to go into the water comfortably. As this was a 'traditional' ship with plenty of deck space, we barely utilized it due to us not bringing any jackets/sweaters. Medallion and embarkation were highlights on this trip. Made checking in easier, purchasing, ordering room service, getting drinks a complete breeze. Ship was clean. Cabins could of used a deep clean in the cabins. Bathroom was a good size. The ship layout was rather confusing and zig zagged all over the place. Balcony was small as expected but plenty of space for a cup of coffee or a sunset photo. MDR was another highlight on this trip. The food and service were great, above my expectations. Multiple entrees/desserts every time and prompt, courteous service by Ryan & Alla. Production show was solid. We saw colors but hand to stand through due to no space. Comedian AJ Jamaal was okay. I thought he would be funnier but his jokes catered to a much older audience. All entertainment on the ship catered towards eating or drinking or some other game/session around the main Piazza room. It was either horse racing, zumba, or champagne party. If you have a 7:15 MDR seating most likely it will be tough for you to get to most of the main 'activity' events. My wife and I did win the raffle for the SPA so that was exciting as well! Service was great all around. Our cabin steward came by two times a day but diminished in quality over time towards the end of the cruise. We did our own shore excursions which was the best choice. Cabo - 'Glass Bottom Boat' Paid $20 USD for a private boat tour at the cabo dock to Los Arcos. Went to The Office restaurant on Medano beach which was very pricey for Mexico but was delicious. Best 'pulpo' octupus I've ever had. Mazatlan - Hidden gem of the trip. Booked Maria's Happy horses for 30 minute ride for $15 USD PP. Ended up being a 45 minute trip with great photos. Booked direct through her on her website. Can ask locally on the beach as well for her. Ate at Malokay and Lety's for a whole fried red snapper for super cheap and hung out on the chairs which were included for a purchase. Puerto Vallarta - Pretty tourist town. Plenty of restaurants and bars along the restaurant to drink and hang out in the Malecon. Went to St Guadalupe and Hilton for a day pass. All in all it was a good trip. First time to Mexican Riviera(prefer caribbean) and first time on Princess. I got a good value for the trip and had a good time due to the good food and service. Couldn't ask for much more. Due to my demographic and needs, I'd prefer a little bit more excitement and buzz on the ship to keep me occupied than just bingo and trivia. Just returning from 7 nights Carib cruise. Embarkation was smooth, luggage arrived within a few hours. Our room steward JAMES WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD ON ANY CRUISE!! Our first stop at Princess Cay was a nightmare. Only one place to purchase clam shells - woman was rude - told us after we paid that we had to look for a "guy in a red shirt to unlock the clamshell and set it up". There were alot of red shirts, but we soon found out that there was only ONE GUY AND ONE KEY AND THEY SOLD OVER 50 CLAMSHELLS!! We spent 45 minutes waiting for help. The BBQ was ok but again with people reaching into food with their hands and NO ONE stopping them. The food on ship was mediocre at best. Food on MDR on getaway day was tasteless - chicken was overcooked, all dark meat, guest next to us said hamburger was overcooked and tough. Buffet was mismanaged - no one watching people reaching into food with hands, not enforcing hand washing as u enter any dining area; hot foods ?? like sliced turkey, bacon wrapped meatloaf, french fries were cold - fries at Salty Dog were 100 times better. Empty serving bowls on buffet not replenished - just left there for guests to ask if there was more; Alfredo's is suppose to be the best pizza on a cruise ship - dont let a New Yorker eat there then! Crust was perfect but toppings were just average - cheese and sauce - not memorable. Specialty restaurants were not impressive - Spagatinis was very run of the mill tasting food, nice presentation but no stand out flavors. Crown Grill was ok - 22 oz porterhouse had a decent strip but very VERY small filet. Alot of fat on strip- decent flavor. Never been on a cruise that limits you to one entree or pay for additionals - previous cruises always let u choose extra entrees without cost - might understand if i wanted to have 6 lobster tails, but not a regular entree! Medallion App was a nightmare - 4 times we asked for asst from guest services and internet cafe - worked until we walked away then nothing! Never got our free drink that was to be ordered thru app and delivered to us! Excursions desk was ridiculous - they could not answer even the simplest questions - shouldnt they know more about what they are selling??? Tendering to St Maarten was good - cruise director kept everyone in good spirits while waiting. Celebrity Theatre is ridiculous - 2500 plus people on board and theatre holds 600 comfortable - told u have to line up 60 minutes before show and even thats not a guarantee!! In the dailys, they talk about "CHAIR HOGS "- people who grab a bunch of chairs early in the am and then sometimes dont show up to use them until much later - Sky says they monitor them and will remove the unattended belongings - NEVER, EVER SEEN THAT DONE. Alot of us want to enjoy a chair in the sun but not at the expense of setting your alarm for 6am to secure one. If you are going to post it, ENFORCE IT!! Overall, Sky is a nice ship but needs a lot of attention to things that matter most to the guests. Oh, and after hearing the opening to LOVE BOAT 1000 times, it gets old! Cute once or twice but not every port - arriving and leaving and then 4 times when leaving St Maarten. And one last, BUT VERY IMPORTANT thing, where are the female officers??? Need more Captain Kates from Celebrity!!! Read Less

We had a great time last year on the Caribbean Princess, but not this time on Sky Princess. The embark/disembarkation was easy, the Medallion worked fine to get in and out of the room and buy drinks (all we used it for). Very nice basic balcony room, clean, nice and brightly lit bathroom. Polite staff. BUT, the crowds of people made a big difference this time. We knew we had to get to the theater early (45 min to 1 hour for production shows), but we did not expect to be shut out of most other evening events in Princess Live or the piazza on 5. If you went to the 8pm theater show, then you were unable to get seats for 9pm events elsewhere. This was the first time we ever ended up watching movies in our room at night. We really enjoyed Mike Misko the magician/comedian. He was the best entertainment and it was great that he had 2 shows. The buffet on sea days was a madhouse at breakfast time and lunch. Yes, it is huge...but it could take 5-10 minutes to wander around to find a seat even for 2. As many others have said, bland food barely warm. Very good omelets. Not enough sinks, and poor compliance with hand washing. The deck chair situation remains awful, not a chair available at 9am even on a cloudy day! Finally got 2 chairs at 2pm. With chairs at a premium - no one should be using the nice padded chairs for footrests!! There was rarely a spot to sit if you got pizza or a burger at poolside. I also think it is strange that Princess uses the passengers to provide entertainment in the piazza area. All dance and Zumba classes are smack dab in the center of the piazza, with all the surrounding chairs filled with guests watching the classes. I am too self concious to Zumba around with hundreds of strangers watching, but I would have taken classes if they were in a lounge or the gym. The MDR was fine, the service was so fast that you could not have a leisurely meal. All the beef dishes were delicious, most other options were beautiful but boring. Just no flavor. Enjoyed Alfredo's atmosphere, the calzone was good and piping hot!! That said, we spoke with people who had been on the ship for 3 weeks in a row and they were happy. Next time I will choose a smaller ship, or one with fewer sea days. Coastal Cay Cruise - overpriced and boring. Vessel too noisy to hear what guide said. Under Two Flags Tour - very good with great guide, Dennis. Lasts longer than 2 hours due to traffic, so be prepared if you book another tour after this one. Lagoon Kayak - very strenous kayaking in a busy waterway with massive yachts. Not "serene and leisurely" as describe. Nice guides. Read Less

My partner wanted to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge one last time so he convinced me it would be great for both of us. I had expected to have sunny days with a little bump here and there but that is not what happened. No sun, cold wind and all kinds of sea bumps. I enjoyed the food in the buffet and the dining room but my partner did not. Our cabin seemed smaller than usual for a balcony cabin but the mattress on the bed was heavenly. Could have spent the entire cruise on that mattress. We did 2 shore excursions with 1 in Kauai which was cooler than I expected and the other one in Hilo which I knew would be cold. However besides being cold it started raining and became very windy. Both of us ended up with a cold. On Maui and Honolulu we shopped since both of us had previously been there. The weather for these two islands was perfect and warm. When the call came that we were to be confined to our cabins, we just enjoyed our balcony more than ever. Read Less

Itinerary perfect but book your own independent tours for so much less money and far better - too many people on ship tours - think toilets! Staff were fabulous but the people on board lovely but so old i.e. most between 70 and 80 years . No one around after 10 PM . The poor band which were great but had an audience of 6 - quite sad really . Food and dining - great . Tenders to ports were a fiasco. Disorganised and no information if we we were late to port no information from the captain , staff were not informed - it was a shambles , worst part of the cruise.Dining room was the best place to eat as the horizon buffet just too manic . We chose this because of the itinerary and because it meshed with our flight. We had done Princess cruises in the past and pretty much knew what we were getting into. The good: Food in dining room had improved. Production shows much improved. The Bad: Food in buffet probably gave one of us food poisoning. It was one awful night. The "tendering" to ports without excursion was painful, slow crowded, just terrible, 2 1/2 hours. Ugly: The pending virus...no one was ever checked but the coughs increased. The mini suite is the only way to go if you can afford it. The ship was supposedly renovated in 2019 but we were hard pressed to figure out where or how. It has a strange combination of decor. Service is very good in most cases. This was the last Princess cruise I will book. Generally we felt "nickel and dimed" throughout the cruise. Read Less

Had to cancel prior booking in November 2019 and not much selection on short notice. Always sailed Princess in the past. This was the second largest in their fleet with 3500+ passengers. Too many guests for my taste. Service was poor and most staff unfriendly. Head Waiter forgot it was our 50th Anniversary and we didn't get our celebration package. Very disappointing since this was the reason for the cruise. Daytime poolside activities were few and live music was missing the first three days Movie Under the Stars ran all day at max volume which made for difficult reading and no write time. Food selection in Horizon Buffet lacked American cuisine. Geared all towards all International foods. Pizza at Alfredo's Pizzeria was excellent. Catamaran Excursion to Turtle Cove was fantastic. Captain Joe and his crew were terrific. Great way to spend a few hours. This was my only cruise on Princess where I was very disappointed. All past cruises were great. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we enjoyed a similar Princess Cruise through the Panama Canal and area. We were disappointed in this one. The ship really shows its age--rust on the balcony, scratches on the elevator doors, worn carpets. Princess has a major problem with communication. Most of the crew speaks broken English, and it's difficult to understand directions. But the pre-cruise instructions seem inadequate. Example: We wanted a restaurant where we could dine with a set number of people each night. That turned out to be Botticelli's, but communications were so inadequate that we learned too late that this place was booked for the cruise. Also, we wanted to take advantage of an expedited exit from the ship--we received a form, but it, too, was poorly worded; we missed out on the deal. Food overall was good, though not excellent. Diners needed to pay extra for high quality. Sabbatini's proved to be very good. The lack of communications by Princess extended to the shore excursions. We booked three of them, and only two were worth it. The first, a trip from St. Thomas to St. John's, included an hour-long small boat excursion across choppy seas. The trip by train was excellent. Also, Barbados had an excellent meal included. We saw only one of the entertainment venues--my wife and I split on our revues on the Magic Show musical. I rated it contrived and trite. The room was OK, I would definitely book at least a mini-suite. Out steward scored highly in our ratings. We will not cruise with Princess again. My wife doesn't want to cruise anymore period. One of the attractions of this cruise was that it left and returned to Melbourne, which saved us the trip to Sydney. We were a group of six - myself and husband and our 2 adult kids and their partners. We wanted a value for money, easy holiday to New Zealand and that is exactly what we got. Golden Princess certainly has no frills and is looking her age but overall she does her job well. This was our first cruise with Princess and they were pretty good. So the good things were: The crew were friendly and obliging. Particularly impressed with the dining room staff attention to my son's special diet. They were great. Our cabin steward was great. The dining room food was very good. Good variety, excellent service and the food arrived hot and well plated. We enjoyed our dining experience and ate the vast majority of our meals in the dining room. The inside cabin was remarkably OK. Yes, it was small, but the design with the walk in robe was very efficient use of space and the mirrors were well placed to give a sense of space. Wheelhouse bar was a great space and we really enjoyed the jazz/swing trio who played there nightly. A great spot for an after dinner drink and good space to play card games. Enjoyed the trivia Princess Theatre shows were mostly very good and hit the demographic. Movies were good. Embarkation and disembarkation were very efficient from the ship's perspective.Once we got out of the Uber we got onboard very quickly. The huge car queue for embarkation was a Station Pier problem, not Princess. If more cruise lines are going to use Melbourne there does need to be some upgrading done to Station Pier. We used the ships shuttle to Southern Cross station at the end of the cruise and that worked well for us. Now the not so good things: This ship needs a quiet space were you can relax and read. Usually I find a spot on the promenade deck and watch the sea and read a book. The Golden Princess Promenade deck is too narrow for deck chairs. So that leaves the only outdoor space on very noisey decks with loud music. With three sea days each side of the NZ ports, that makes it a crowded and noisy ship. The Horizon Court buffet was pretty bad. Cold food, hard to find a table and its hard to believe that the same chefs prepared the dining room and buffet food. The curries were bland and the meat dishes were overcooked. Cheese and 'salami' were beyond description. Can't believe that they ran out of English Breakfast tea on a ship that was based in Australia. Some of the port days were very short. Seems that Princess were saving a bit of money here. Needed more time in Wellington and Napier to take advantage of these lovely towns. It wasn't as if the next ports were far away. The Captain's weather forecasts (and those on the Princess Patter) were always 21-22 degrees. These were always wrong. It became a bit of a joke after a while. We got much better forecasts on our cabin TV. The three sea days coming back were pretty boring. On the way over we had good cultural and port lectures which really helped to heighten our excitement for the ports that we were about to visit. On the way back all we got were activities that were based on selling us something or drinking. Enjoy a drink - but not all day. So overall, yes I would cruise Princess again. It is not a luxury line but you get what you pay for I enjoyed most aspects of this ship. Princess delivers a good product and meets expectations. Read Less

We chose Princess to see Hawaii. Our most desired stop in Kauai was cancelled due to weather letting us down hard. Then we spent 5 days (5 windy cold days) returning to N America to visit Ensenada, a marginal town at best. Why not spend another day in Hawaii or San Diego not Ensenada) The old ship ( due for refurb in April) is dated and needing paint. The wifi was awful and expensive ( shouldnt wifi be free in 2020). The Gym is small, only two Specialty restaurants ( changing the menu does not constitute another restaurant). Entertainment, educational talks and casual bar food and drinks were great. Senior officers were aloof and unfriendly, the Captain was rarely seen and never heard. Older waiters weren't very helpful but the younger new ones were very enthusiastic. The cabin was small and had 1 chair and small table. When it could be used the balcony was nice. We have cruised on two other lines and had 4 great experiences. This was not Better to fly to Hawaii Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the route from Sydney to Singapore, but it was terminated at Perth because of the Coronavirus. It was announced during a show in the theatre by the captain, whereas we understood the reason ,it had a deflating effect on the rest of the cruise all the people we spoke to felt the same. One man said it was the most disastrous cruise ever, his wife said “ it was not that bad “ but that’s how my husband saw it , so much so he said he will not cruise again, for us it cannot compare to celebrity cruise line. We found the entertainment poor ,apart from the gymnastic performance , a violinist who was good, how they called the rest of the entertainment headliners, it beats me. The food was disappointing in the Main dinning room , we found the market place food disjointed wandering round looking for food, one man said to me there is no Continuation it doesn’t flow, I understood what he meant, the bacon and sausage were either under done or very well done, the people behind the counters, were so indifferent and did not make eye contact with you and begrudgingly did you a poached egg, why on earth were the omelette station not with the other eggs, the scrambled eggs very wet and unappetising or sliced you a piece of meat. The waiting staff in the market place were very helpful and pleasant, it’s a shame the counter staff were not of the same mind. The bar staff very friendly and helpful worked really hard , the ship was really clean and plenty of elevators. We found the cruise director scruffy looking ie shiny suit and not pressed , on night he had a button missing off his jacket. One last point I submitted that I was lactose free, they brought me the menu for tomorrow’s menu , but it was just plain veg no sauces for the meat or fish that I had, one night I had dry over cooked sea bass, very unappealing , they did make an effort with a Creme brûlée, but it was like rubber. If I can make sauces and make food tasty , I just wondered why I was not catered for by top chefs , my desserts were mainly fruit plates because of imagination. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it went around parts of Australia and the overall package seemed a really good deal to us. We hadn't cruised Princess before but had heard good reviews and that it was a step above RCI and just below Celebrity so we were really looking forward to it. We started in Sydney on 12th February, the staff were all friendly and smiley (except for the young lady who served us drinks in the bar as we got on! She really didn't want to serve us). The ship itself was a little bit like Ventura in as much as we quickly realised that you had to go to deck 7 to get anywhere but I found it didn't have the flow of Ventura. The shops were ok although overpriced, as are other lines, but we experienced extremely highly pressurised selling unfortunately. We found the entertainment poor overall, although the Fiero show was very good, and there was an extremely good vocalist Rietta Austin on board. Saw both her shows and her voice is magnificent, spoilt only by the "comedy" element she adds in - she really doesn't need that element to her show as her voice is outstanding and I would happily listen to her for an hour or so without the comic stuff (which I didn't like), other passengers I spoke to felt the same. The buffet was much the same as other lines, slightly better organised as waiters came and served your drinks as you sat down, which we found much better than P&O where, in the main, you get your own. The bakery was excellent and I found myself eating rolls and Danish pastries where I wouldn't normally bother! Otherwise we found the food choice and quality not to be as good as P&O or RCI. MAJOR problem for us was not having a kettle to make our own tea and coffee - especially when the jet lag meant we were waking at 3a.m and wanted a cuppa. Ringing and waiting hour 20 mins - half an hr for room service just didn't cut it for us. Also, quite often we couldn't get an answer from room service so that was irritating. We did like the fact that the Entertainment director Andrew held an all denominations church service with hymns and a little talk and was really good, we thoroughly enjoyed that. Service from staff was mixed, our dining room waiters were very nice, but elsewhere (like the coffee lounge) staff weren't very happy at all :-( Sadly our cruise was cut short due to health concerns in Malaysia and we terminated in Fremantle, I have no problem with that as it can't be helped with this Coronavirus business and Princess were looking out for our health and well being. They have said we'll get 50% of our cruise fare back (been back a week and still waiting, apparently it will be at least 10th March before we see any money back) and also 50% off a future cruise with them as long as it's to the same value and we take it before Feb 21st next year!! This last fact of cruise cut short etc has had no impact on my opinions of Princess - some things can't be helped and are no ones fault. IMO P&O and RCI are FAR superior in all aspects apart from waiters fetching drinks in buffet Read Less

We sailed on Grand Princess on February 11th, 2020, out of San Francisco and south along the coast of Mexico. We chose this cruise because friends were going, and because we had never visited any of the ports before, so we thought it was a good way to get a snapshot of these ports. The cruise got off to a poor start, which was not the fault of the staff, but we felt we paid for it in substandard service for the first couple of days. There had apparently been a medical emergency on the ship on the cruise just prior, and the ship arrived in San Francisco 9 hours late. That meant that passengers like us had to check out of hotels in San Francisco in the morning, with nowhere to go until we were finally allowed to line up to embark at around 9 pm. Princess did give each passenger a $25 US refundable credit, ostensibly to cover dinner, as we were supposed to board in time to sail at 4 pm. They also clawed back $15 of that credit for a tip for a day on which we only spent two hours on the ship. I know tips are optional, but it wasn't the fault of the crew and we didn't feel comfortable punishing them for the late departure. Unfortunately, because of the late arrival and subsequent rushed preparations for the next cruise, it took at least a couple of days before members of our group were able to get things as basic as bathrobes, wine glasses, and distilled water. We were told at one point part way into the cruise that they had not had time to load wine, or relish for burgers on the ship in San Francisco, and the crew was not particularly helpful or even pleasant on occasion. There seemed to be a turning point at dinner time on the third day out, and things were mostly better from that time. Again, we understand the delay on departure day would have been very hard on the crew, but it wasn't easy for embarking passengers (or I expect for those disembarking who missed flights, etc). It was no one's fault, but somehow we felt we paid for it anyway. Other than the initial glitch, embarkation and disembarkation went exceptionally smoothly. San Francisco is an excellent port. Grand Princess is showing her age. The ship has visible rust on the hull, and balconies. There was a bucket catching water dripping from the ceiling in the middle of the corridor a little way down from us for nearly the whole cruise. There were two elevators not working midship for pretty much the entire cruise, and one at the back that was also down by times. That one was one of the only two that went to the 15th and 16th decks, so for anyone who is mobility challenged, getting up there was tough. Unfortunately, there are also no stairs midship, so while I am normally happy to leave the elevators for those folks needing them, there wasn't an option. As a result, the waits for elevators were often very long, and some people resorted to getting on and riding in the opposite direction to where they were going just to be able to get on. That was a lot of fun on disembarkation day when elevators would arrive at the 14th floor full of people with their suitcases while people were trying to leave the buffet. On the up side, the food was excellent, even in the buffet. Breakfast in the main dining room was a real treat, and dinners in Michelangelo were superb. The only drawback is that Princess seemed to want everyone booked into fixed dining, and the wait time to dine in the anytime dining room was awful for the first few days. No matter what time you went, there were lineups and a real push to join a larger table. We did agree to that one day, only to discover that when we were the 4th and 5th people seated at a table for 12, we had to wait for the table to fill up (meaning 7 more people had to agree to sit at a large table) before they would take our dinner orders. We met some lovely people but also missed an activity as a result, despite all of us being asked if there was anything pressing we wanted to make. We did take in a couple of shows, including a magician/comedian, a comedian and former police officer, and the British invasion music show. The shows were of a high quality and we very much enjoyed them. We often don't do the shows, but I would definitely look at them in the future. We also did the second wine tasting, and we always enjoy these activities. We do trivia twice a day on sea days, and I try to go to the crafting group in the mornings. These are activities we have come to really enjoy on Princess, and the staff typically go above and beyond to ensure the activities are fun. We have always been fortunate enough to book mini-suites on Princess, and the cabin was mostly what we have come to expect, other than the issue I noted below in the cabin review. We only did two excursions, but both were enjoyable. We visited the turtle sanctuary in Cuyutlan when we stopped in Manzanillo, and we did the luxury sailboat trip in Cabo. The sailboat excursion was excellent, and we would happily do that one again. We snorkelled, tried paddle boarding, and saw lots of whales. The crew went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful time. For perspective, this is our fifth Princess cruise, and we have another Princess cruise already booked for next summer. We have sailed primarily with Princess because we have always enjoyed the ships, the food, and the service. This won't put us off Princess, but I would not sail on this ship again. I would, however, do the same cruise again if offered on another ship. Read Less

We took the cruise to 4 Pacific Mexican places because we had not been there. The price and dates were also good for us. The towns were interesting. The Princess excursions were reasonably priced, although some turned out to not have a lot to see. Beaches, sun and drinking seemed to be the main reason many took this cruise. We were to board at noon. Since we could not connect from our midwest city in time, we came the day before. We saw more of San Francisco than we planned as we received a message boarding would be delayed. We were told it was a diversion caused by a critically ill passenger. Went to the California Academy of Science which was a good day. As the day went on, the boarding time kept getting later and later. We finally were allowed to board at 8:30 pm. We had a safety drill at 10 pm, which was 1 am to us on EST and went back to our cabin to wait for our luggage to arrive. In essence the first day of our cruise was eliminated. Princess gave each of us $25, which did not begin to cover what we spent in SF, let alone not having the day onboard. The food was okay, although not as good as other cruise lines we use in a similar price range. We really did appreciate that they had some part of the buffet open at all hours. On the down side: no real ice cream except in the dining room. Unexpected nice dining at the pizza place on deck 5. Small bottles of water in the cabin were offered for $2/each! All the ship's staff was top notch for the most part. The program and atmosphere on the ship is not what Princess once was. Both the clientele and what is offered onboard seems to be getting far more like Carnival, which we would not take on a bet. We selected "anytime" dining which turned out to be a misnomer. You can dine anytime as long as it is 5:15 or 7:30 pm. (Set dining is 5 and 7:30 too.) You can call for a reservation when the reservations open at 8 am and you will be offered only too early or too late (see above). Apparently they lack adequate dining space, so they have to fill all dining rooms early and late only to get everyone seated. Our main disappointment was the almost total lack of anything intellectually stimulating. We travel to see and learn about new places. If you are on Princess, there is little chance that will happen through them. They had an excellent Mexico Folkloric dance program once in port and served Mexican one night in the buffet. That was the limit of anything Mexican on the 10 day cruise. The only other presenter of any note was a talk on Dickens one day. We could not attend and found that although they recorded many other things you could see on the tv later, they did not bother to record or show that one, which we would have liked to see. If you like bingo, gambling, lots of dancing, silly athletic contests, guests singing, and shopping of every sort, you would like this Princess cruise. If you want any type of lectures, movies or even available videos about where you are traveling, forget it! The Princess itself was very old and shabby, although the staff kept is spic and span. Storage space and size of cabins also very old fashioned=small. Read Less

We chose this cruise to see how we liked many continuous sea days. If the weather had been warmer we could have been able to make use of the outdoor spaces. The ship is old and needs major work.(painting, rugs, furniture) The cabin was great.(beds were comfortable, new tv.,room was spacious ) The Crown Gill was excellent. The buffet was very good with many choices buy they failed to have any turkey the whole cruise. The menu in the main dining rooms need to be updated and had it not been for the excellent wait service it would have been a total loss. The entertainment was lacking the first week but improved the second week. The service on board was excellent and was the highlight of this cruise. All the staff went out of their way to make our handicapped daughter feel comfortable and included.S.F. was interesting and would like to visit and tour again. Read Less

Great itinerary but not great pre cruise drink packages no bottled water packages so brought a case on ourselves . Ship was rusty on our mini suite deck and other spare as. Staff were mostly friendly but some could use nicer hellos. Shop had almost nothing with lord of the rings items which was disappointing and quality was limited. Disappointed captain didn’t do the champagne waterfall like other ships have done. Vow renewal was very very nice . Disappointed with quality and type of food, we don’t eat red meat pork or lamb and limited fish and seafood or chicken to same favorite menu item .. buffet many nights offered better selection and quality. Disappointed no local kiwi fruit or fresh fruit from nz no honey etc.. but did love love love the scones with cream and jam every afternoon!, photographers were very good but sadly photo packages were very expensive and many people didn’t buy as many as they wanted . Loved the ports though Napier could be longer . Auckland was somewhat boring . Wildlife tours and seeing lord of the rings places and hobbiton made the trip great. Many great on board photo opportunities which we liked . No happy hour which was disappointing but made it much cheaper for us as we didn’t drink much due to that. Would do this cruise again.. not sure with who as itinerary is paramount but had a great time . Read Less
