The Panama Canal was on our bucket list. Just the week before we set sail the Coronavirus scare began. We chose to go ahead with our plans and are so glad we did. There was a major computer glitch that delayed our boarding for 2-3 hours. Area was packed. No food or drink offered. Toilet facilities were out in the parking lot. Very uncomfortable. Once we boarded things went exceedingly well. Our steward, Danny, was welcoming and helpful. Our room was clean and ready to go. We ate most meals in the DaVinci Dining room with Giovani as our Maitre ‘d, Roderick, waiter, and John as his assistant. Enjoyed them as well as the food. Ate one night in the Crown Grill. Excellent service and food. Ate one night in Share. Excellent food and service once again. Just way too mush food for us to eat (6 courses). Had breakfast on our balcony once. Very special, indeed. We arranged our port tours with other cruisers through Cruise Critic. Highly recommend: Puerta Vallarta, Vallarta by Road Food tour Puntarenas, Thumbs Up Tours Panama City, Conozca Panama 5 hour City Tour We were denied entry into Cartagena, Colombia (by direct order of the mayor.) No illness on board with staff or passengers. Entertainment was absolutely wonderful. In our second week Princess Cruises announced they were closing down operations for 60 days due to Coronavirus Pandemic. I want to give a shout out to Princess. They were transparent throughout. Even though employees had this uncertainty (60 day layoff) facing them, they remained cheerful, courteous and helpful to the very end of the cruise. Thank you for a wonderful experience! We WILL be back!! Read Less

This was the first time we had a two week break as we had just retired. As we booked late we only had the choice of two rooms we ended up with room A333 with an adjoining door. We have done other cruises with luxury liners so i was full of apprehension but we wanted to do a full transit of Panama. The room was adequate bed really comfy. Extremely clean. Plenty of hanging space.Fridge for our champagne . Housemaid Anna first class. Food was of a high standard . I have worked in the hospitality industry so i know how hard it is to please the public. The staff in the world market restaurant were hilarious. Loved the outside cinema. Watching a new release sunbathing in 86 degrees drinking bubbles wonderful way to relax. Entertainment was mixed except for the two violinists called LADO they were spectacular. Booked whale excursion via princess cruises was truly amazing .Costa Rica and Columbia via cruise 118 great value. I would recommend catching a taxi in Nicaragua the local tourist guide in the port found an english speaking taxi driver who showed us some breathtaking sites and gave us the history of the country. My gripe is the horrendous costs of the drinks , wifi and gratuties. They need to look at more affordable packages for these items. Most guests were american who had paid on average $1300 for two weeks which is so much cheaper. Read Less

decided to join friends who were already booked on this cruise. Panama Canal was on our bucket list so we thought "why not" There was a technical issue on embarkation which had us feeling very relieved to be Elite status as many passengers waited several hours to get on board. As it was, we did not get our cabin key cards until almost midnight on day 1. We ended getting an excellent price on the cruise by watching the sales and contacting our cruise planner when we came across a better deal. Loved our cabin - odd shape/layout but spacious and nice view. The cruise was very enjoyable, despite the current world situation. We had some very nice shore excursions: Beach getaway; Two bay snorkel; Sabana Safari adventure. Transit through the canal was cool to experience. The new production show "Rock Opera" was one of the best I have ever seen on Princess - loved all the numbers from "The Greatest Showman" All in all, a very good cruise. Read Less

There was a glitch getting on the ship, which caused us to not start off the best, we waited in line outside the ship for hours & were never told why we were not allowed to board, and then once inside, more long lines- we heard it was a computer problem. Once we were onboard, they gave us temporary room cards, which meant we had to find the room steward every time we wanted to get into our room, finally received our keys at 9:00 that night. But, from then on Princess did not disappoint! Entertainment was good, especially two of the singers and the ventriloquist, Michael was terrific! One of the most entertaining shows was put on by the Master Chef and Maitre D- so funny and two of their staff sang and they were fantastic! Our waiter in the Botticelli dining room was Yulia and her assistant, Daniel and they were EXCELLENT! Always had a smile and went above and beyond to make our dining experience the best! We also tried the specialty restaurants, Crown Grill was excellent and Crave was also very good! Our balcony room was very nice, closet space was plentiful. Our room steward, Savio was really good and anticipated what we needed without even asking. my husband has a C-Pap machine and Savio got us a bottle of distilled water without us ever Mentioning it. Aaron, the Cruise Director was hilarious and his staff were so great, we enjoyed most of the activities. We also enjoyed the Escape Room, which you have to sign up for, there is a small charge-$8.00. In light of all that was going on in the world with the virus, we enjoyed our time on Emerald Princess! Read Less

I’ve always wanted to sail to the Panama Canal. What a great trip this was. Despite the worlds fears of the corona virus our crew selflessly cared for our needs, making sure the trip was a success. Even though we did not get to go through the old Locke as planned due to the Panamanian government not giving us access until to late we were still able to go through the new lockes and enjoy them from our balcony. Our room steward kept the windows of the balcony so clean our view was spectacular. Princess crew went out of their way to make the cruise exactly what I had hoped for despite extra requirements being added on to them. The sunsets and sunrises were so beautiful. The food so delicious, not one disappointment. The ventriloquist was way to good, singing for his dummies. The sax player was amazing, loved the whole show. Thank you Emerald Princess Captain and crew. Job well done. Looking forward to cruising again with you. Read Less

After sailing to Alaska on Princess with family and friends for our 50th we knew we would sail with Princess again. We've wanted to go through the Panama Canal and one 6 of us found we could during the first two weeks of March we jumped at the chance. A computer glitch messed with what we know to be a generally efficient check in. Though, conditions were less than ideal, I applaud the individual who made the decision to move us from standing outside in the sun to an inside seating area that was air conditioned. We thoroughly enjoyed our balcony stateroom and assigned steward, Rommel. Both were superb. We enjoyed eating at the Michelangelo where our server, Sebastion, always brought a smile, cheer, and great food. Eating at DaVinci with our server, Lucio, was also a delight. Shall always remember one of his jokes!! Special treats were eating at Crown and SHARE by Curtis. The food in each location was excellent; however, the portions at the SHARE were simply too large! Never thought I'd say that! The entire cruise staff was wonderful. Even after Princess announced that it would be suspending cruising for 60 days, and with the staff uncertainty of what lay before them, they maintained a professional, courteous, and cheerful presence among us. For sure, for that composure alone, Princess can be proud of how its staff serves the needs of its guests and of the company. Princess, we'll be back, and soon we hope! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and for our past experiences on the Emerald Princess. We love the live music and entertainment on the Emerald Princess. Princess Cruises are our favorite. We had a hiccup during embarkation, but that was put aside as the cruise got underway. I enjoyed the ports, but to be honest our best time was had on the ship. A little disappointed we were not allowed to get off in Columbia, but understandable considering the world conditions. The cruise staff was awesome at keeping us safe and healthy. The ship was in a continuous state of disinfection and I loved that the staff in the Worldplace Market began serving the buffet about halfway through the cruise. Extra work for them, but a bonus for us to help keep us healthy. We maintained a healthy ship and with all of the challenges in the cruise world I would not hesitate and look forward to cruising again. Read Less

For us this was the cruise of a life time for us. Celebrating a Birthday, 45th wedding anniversary and retirement Cruise. We live on the east coast. And proberly will not go west ever again. So we picked this one. The itinerary was great. The island of Moorea was the most beautiful island we have ever seen. True paradise. We have seen every island in the Caribbean, nothing even comes close. Oh well the ship. This is the 5th cruise line. Our 10th cruise. Our first and (last) on Princess. Top to bottom I can complain about everything. It would be to long and nobody would read it. I will try to keep it short. You have to understand a 28 day cruise is for older people. A lot of snobs. Just rude. For the most part their head was up their ...!! Average age 70 to 80. We are 66. They think they had money. Well if they did they wouldn't be on this cruise. They would be on the high end lines or they would go to there villa. The ship had a bad layout. Food not good. Entertainment terrible. Nothing to do on sail days. Could't wait to get of that ship. Most of the staff was new on their first contract. So most of the service was not good. Language barrier was a problem. Most of the workers did not seem happy. Internet was a problem. BREAKFAST Most of the food in the buffet was COLD. The toast, English muffins, and bagels were run through an automated toaster when the buffet was opened and were served for the next several hours. Fried eggs were also cooked earlier and the warming pans delivered either cold or luke warm eggs. The only made to order item were the omelets, and they were great! LUNCH & DINNER Again much of what was served was cold. There was a good variety of meat served, but it was way overcooked, dry, and tastless. MAIN DINING ROOMS Very little variety and again luke warm fish and meat (overcooked). Nothing special except on the two formal nights. If you did not bring your formal atire, no filet or lobster. We should have ignored the formal attire since the "Smart Casual" requirement was not enforced. We saw shorts, flip-flops, sweat pants, ripped jeans, and T-shirts. "Any Time Dining" was a myth. You need to make a reservation in advance and each time we tried we could only get a time of 5:30 or after 7:15. ENTERTAINMENT All venues, especially the central plaza or atrium, were so loud you could not get out of or walk by fast enough. What they lacked in talent they made up for in volume. CHARGES FOR WHAT OTHER LINES GIVE OUT FOR FREE Bottled water, soft drinks, playing cards, all are charged to your account. The Library and game room is a joke. We have seen larger facilities on river cruise boats. Internet fees are also high when compared with other cruise lines. The only free coffee we found was at the buffet which was far away from our stateroom. NEWS AND TELEVISION No CNN or ESPN. Fox News may be fine for the ultra right and MSNBC for the left. But, that was your only choices. They did have Euro Sports and CNBC. Having sailed with Oceania eleven times, I missed the free four page USA Today that was delivered free to my stateroom daily. Also available on Oceania is a free full version of the USA Today in the Concierge Lounge. You cannot even buy one on Princess. OTHER Prices in the boutiques were mostly outrageous. $30 for a logo plastic water bottle or $24 for an insulated coffee cup. Part of the problem with this ship is it's size. Elevator wait times on s ship with 3,700 passengers is often very long. Read Less

Mothers 90th birthday, port is local/easy drive, like the ship overall, always enjoy the Riviera. We have sailed on the Royal 8 times and enjoy the ship. It's not as nice as the Emerald and such, as the layout of this ship is awkward. Having the open deck on 7, is quite enjoyable for most people.. They Royal forces you to stay inside, unless you go up to deck 16, which is often too windy/cold. Our full suite was filthy, with multiple non working lights. It took 4 days to get the lights all working, but we had a filthy room the whole time. The steward did NOT change the sheets in the babies crib, leaving crumbs etc for the baby to sleep on.. He did NOT provide us with the amenities that are given with a suite.. We spent too many hours reporting things, showing repair crew what was wrong etc... C102. We did have CLUB CLASS dining, which was nice as there is no wait. We requested a waiter that was not in CC and they brought him over.. He provided excellent service throughout the cruise. After 20 plus cruises with various companies, Princess is still a favorite. First time on Royal Princess. Ship was beautiful and spacious, no lineups for any venue or dining. Sabatini's speciality restaurant was a romantic setting for two to enjoy an anniversary. The menu selection and food presentation was memorable. Alfredo's pizza was so great, we enjoyed several times. Make sure you try one of their signature pasta dishes. International cafe in piazza had delights all day and night. Best donuts ever! Main dining room had a different food theme nightly. Make sure you check the menu in advance to plan ahead for your evening meal. You may want to order 4 or 5 courses! The adult retreat pool area was our favortie hangout. Great place to relax and read, and enjoy a drink. Our balcony room was well laid out with sofa and table, mini fridge, blow dryer, great lighting and spacious closet. Even the shower seemed a little roomer, with a nice ledge for ladies to shave their legs! Room was super clean and our room steward was great. All staff we encountered were friendly and professional. Crazy world out there but on our cruise we were treated like princesses! With the new medallions, all the crew knew our names and who we belonged with. And we could find each other, generally. Embarking and disembarking was so easy with doing all the paper work before getting to the ship and having the medallions on. They say there were over 3000 passengers but we didn't see them! Except for the excellent shows shows in the Princess Theater, we never saw a crowd! I don't know where they all were. Lots of space to be quiet. Very few children. Lots of entertainment all day& evening. All the helpers at the Medallion desk were knowledgeable and friendly, didn't make us feel like we were asking silly questions! And they were all entertainers. Morning specialty coffee at the horizon buffet made by Adrian was so special and perfect every cup! Delightful and happy every early morning till late. Dinners in the Concerto Dining room with Danilo, tho he thought he was "Bond, James Bond!" and Ronald was just formal enough. We enjoyed stretching with Tai chi &Zumba. And Bingo with Fortuna Luck was a hoot! As well as all the trivia games. With all that said, we care about all the crew on the Royal Princess, wish them and their family's well. It was over all wonderful! Read Less

Doing a back to back, very reasonable pricing on a very new ship. The Inside cabin was small but adequate. Lots of closet space. Plenty of draws. USB ports in the night stand lights helpful. The A/C was cold, shower hot. And the bed comfy. Lots of food venues. Soft serve ice cream thru gourmet speciality restaurants. The crew seems genuinely happy to be doing their jobs. Entertainment, well...... if your looking for production shows, there are almost none. A rock opera thing was scheduled once each cruise, however it was on formal/ lobster tail night which made for some hectic eating to get to the show. There were both a comedian and a magician as “headliners”, I think I remember seeing the magician at a bar mitzvah recently. The theatre was big and had comfy seating. The casino had all new slots. The medallion system beats the poop out of key cards Good precautions regarding the corona virus. I really have no complaints about the ship or the food or the accommodations. We were looking forward to sailing on the new sky princess. We arrived a day ahead and stayed at the La Quinta in Hollywood. It was very convenient and close enough to shopping that we could walk. Our cabin was fabulous! We enjoyed the entertainment - the production shows as well as comedians, magicians, and singers! The volume on the production shows was a little loud but other than that they were very entertaining. The new Jim Henson Muppets Show was a fun trip down memory lane. The staff were helpful and attentive. We had Club Class dining and the food was delicious and the service was excellent. We arrived at the port around 1pm so we didn’t have a long line or any boarding issues. It all went smoothly. We took ship shore excursions in Cozumel (stingray encounter - lots of fun and educational), Belize (snorkeling - very enjoyable even though it was a very windy day with lots of chop in the water) and Costa Maya (an all day tour visiting 2 Mayan ruins - a very long day but both sites were interesting and it was great that we could still climb to the top). We also took a disembarkation tour to the Everglades (air boat and alligators) and Flamingo gardens - a long walk off the ship to get to the bus with very little signage or direction but the tour was great. For 24 years we have celebrated our Anniversary on a Princess ship. We were on some of them 2,3 times. Sky was different and much better in many respects. It was light and airy feeling and not overdone. The ship's decor was more modern-looking. The employees were the happiest we have ever encountered. They smiled, knew our name and tried to please at every venue. Our cabin was a balcony deluxe. We spent some time in it relaxing in between activities. It was a 4 day in a row port call so we had to plan our excursions in advance. The beds were the best we have ever slept on in any cruise ship or at home. Every excursion was run smoothly by Princess. The production shows were the most elaborate we have ever seen with singers, dancers and acrobatics giving A+ performances. The special effects were creative; something never seen before. Shows were fantastic to watch and the costumes were beautiful too. Music was everywhere, dancing in the atrium, movies shown were the latest, activities and game shows - what a lot of choices to make daily. Restaurants were great and dining room anytime was easily handled. Cruise pictures now on monitors for viewing which is much better than the old way to select them. On our celebration evening we were sung to, and the special cake was presented. For our 25th we will again go on a Princess ship. We have sailed on Seaway, Sun, Dawn, Star, Island, Crown, Caribbean Princess, Ruby, Emerald, Royal, Regal and Sky. Our best Princess vacation this time! Read Less

I liked to décor and colors in the cabins were not just bland beige, liked the grey accents. The pool area was good and we were able to get to the pool a couple times even with the chair saving. wasn't impressed with our RS. Even thought a couple of us had the same girl, we didn't get our Princess bags, had to go to guess services to ask for them and she missed getting us the shopping maps for each port and missed getting us a couple of our patters. Pizza in Alfredos was hot and tasty. Breakfast at Sabatinis continues to be awesome. Cruise staff was of highest quality and service. Our aft suite was beautiful and Melanie, our cabin steward was awesome. Nothing like sitting on the rear balcony with a drink and watching the sea go by. I have sailed princess twice before, did not have a good experience on ruby princess I must add, but this cruise was amazing. The cleanliness, staff, and food was awesome. We travelled to the western Caribbean and Mexico this trip, and have never been catered to in such a amazing way. I can’t say enough about the crew. They were always ready when needed. This was our first medallion cruise. At first I thought it sounded gimmicky....but found myself using it for everything from locating people I knew, to ordering from anywhere/anytime, and having it delivered anywhere I was at the time. We had no problems whatsoever, and made it home just before corona virus hit. Would I do it again? As soon as we finish with covid19, I’ll be booking another cruise on this boat ASAP. Since all our information was on the medallion, we could go to the beach without having to worry about keeping our passports safe. It was a positive addition to the trip. They also staggered when everyone got aboard, so there was no massive lineups like in the past in Fort Lauderdale....we just showed up and boarded...,it was a nice change. Read Less

We've cruised with Princess before and four other cruise lines. We have Princess as our vacation of choice. We actually have done this cruise before on the Grand Princess. And, will be sailing on the Star Princess at least three more times before she is reassigned later this year. When living in France and Singapore we went with local cruise lines, but they didn't compare to Princess in terms of Ship accommodations, itinerary, food or staff services. We selected a cabin with an unobstructed view. We have made this cruise before on the Grand Princess, and going this early in spring, across the Pacific Ocean, at 20+ knots or 23 miles per hour, you don't really sit out on your balcony for very long. Once you are in the islands and the warmer climate, a balcony is very worth while. But, we had chosen extensive shore excursions, so we wouldn't be sitting of a balcony anyway. We lived in Hawaii for about a year back in 2008 so we already know much of the history and culture. But, Dr. Anne, the naturalist's talks about culture, history, fish and animals and details about each island were excellent, and we learned even more. Tikki Dave and his wife are wonderful entertainers, trainers [hula and ukulalee] as well as making nut necklesses. Great fun, but mostly they provided hours of entertainment. Other entertainers, the commedians, impersonators, singers and the production shows were supurb. Overall, the Star Princess is feeling her age, will be getting a spruce up this summer, but she is still a wonderful experience with a wonderful crew. Great food in the Princess fashion of excellence and we're already booked 3 more cruises on her because she still shines in the Princess tradition which is as good as it gets on the seas. Hope to see some of you in March-April and again in September aboard the Star Princess, you won't be disappointed. Read Less

The accommodations on excursions made the overall experience very memorable. The embarkation and disembarkation process was very smooth. The dining experience was one of the highlights of the cruise. Great food but even greater service by the staff. Overall, I would recommend the Hawaii cruise to others. The dining experience, the entertainment onboard, and the shore excursions could not have been better. Not sure what I expected before the cruise but think the Star Princess far exceeded anything I could have hoped for. This is a bucket list cruise. The days at sea were full of entertainment and activities. The shore days provided wonderful excursions or time to just get out and explore. The staff onboard were friendly and helpful. The food in the dining rooms provided a great selection and delicious dining. This is a MUST travel if you wish to explore Hawaii. Read Less

Hi all My wife and son and myself choose this cruise as it left from Melbourne our home city easier we thought. We found the ship to be leaking and the age group on boat old honestly if you didn't have a walking frame or walking stick or even a ride on bike you felt out of place no offense to anyone just not our thing. As this was the age demagraffic the activities on board suited them it was boring. There where only a few shows on board that suited us and they where not on frequent enough. Now for the rooms we had a stateroom with balcony deck 11 all l can say it is tiny for what you pay we had to upgrade to suite which cost 2500 more really good start to our holiday which we planned 16 months prior. Hard not to update as there was 3 people our son is 22 very disappointing for him he paid his own way and had a single small bed that come out of the roof. This put our finances under pressure from day one. Tour's where call off and expensive for what you get l recommend to anyone don't book before you go book off the boat on shore you will save heaps. Food in the buffet was average. Pizza terrible. Achocol drinks expensive and not even a happy hour and they push the doubles . The shopping on board average just want to push jewellery and art who cares oh yes old people do boring. It's not all bad though the staff are awesome friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was awesome also the staff in there where incredible. The upgraded room was clean and well serviced. I've been on a few cruise ships before but this one has put me off I will not cruise for a long time again and l will be passing this on too my family and friends. Very disappointed Read Less

This is our fourth cruise and our first trip with Princess cruises. We are both in our early 60's but found that the average cruiser was much older with very few young people and families on board. We make friends very easily, yet found it difficult this cruise, I'm sorry to say. I would not recommend Princes cruises if your under 65 as everything on board is catered for an older crowd, from entertainment to product availability in the stores. Day activities were limited to trivia and bingo, and nightlife seemed to stop at 11pm, so it became boring to say the least. Even the deck chairs were not laid out before 10 am and gathered before dark. The food court was good and never closed which was convenient, there was also free pizza, burgers and ice cream at the centre pool. I know being in your early 60's is not young, but I'm sorry to say that this cruise compared to others we have been on was a snooze- fest! Read Less

We booked this cruise on the Golden Princess for our Golden wedding anniversary. We had to pay an extra $630 above the advertised price in the Herald Sun. When moving into our cabin (Stateroom is a joke) we found it contained two bunks folded against the walls above the double bed. This made it very hard to try and get around the bed to get into it. Fortunately our very helpful cabin steward suggested splitting the bed into two singles. This had to do. When moving in and using the drawers some of them would fall open as well as not closing properly through jamming. The desk timber was not in good condition and the whole cabin had the air of general neglect. The Horizon Court is a good place to eat but mostly the cooked food was tepid or cold. This is common on all the Princess cruises we have sailed. The ship however is a good one to cruise on. She is fairly stable and for her age, still tight. We did enjoy the cruising but it was soured by the above issues particularly the unfair price gouge. Read Less

The cruise itinerary was possibly the worst I have been on. (Seventh to this area). Due to the Corona virus the island of Mare was taken off the agenda. I would much prefer visits to the smaller islands where beaches and the availability to swim in the clear waters. However knew what to expect when I booked the cruise. Rain and bad weather caused the cancellation of tours on Noumea, but that is something the cruise line has no control over. The ship itself is showing its age and is in need of refurbishment which will happen later this year when P & O take over ownership. Entertainment was of the normal high standard, but the timing of some events clashed slightly and did not allow for shows and dinner. Most staff were of trhe normal high standard and were very helpful. All in all a pleasant cruise but in then end probably too many sea days. Read Less

I have cruised 4 times on this ship and it is clearly past its prime. We had a wonderful cruise to the So Caribbean, great weather and good itinerary. We had to skip Princess Cays but were given OBC of $120pp to make up for it. I was able to get some credit for unused punches on an old coffee card and a barrel chair in the room. We had a balcony mid ship cabin B430, the mattress was terrible. They managed to bring us one replacement but could not find a second one. When I say terrible it actually had a huge depression clearly visible through the sheets. OUr cabin steward was okay but not great, the room was never vacuumed in 10 days. The balcony chairs had residue and the banister was badly worn. I love the layout of the ship with 5 pools, as usual the chairs were reserved by 8am. The movies were pretty good. Entertainment was okay but the passenger "games" were juvenile. Lots of cut backs such as no napkins given with cocktails, piles of used dishes on the open decks, limited bar service around the pools. Never saw anyone cleaning in the common areas except in the bathroom. The Crown does have a good library. Disembarkation was fast. We easily made a 10:15 flight back home. Everyone seemed healthy. We had great service in Anytime Dining with Yulia. Buffet set up is terrible and seating was sometimes very difficult. Read Less
