Only a small 4 day short break to Airlie Beach this cruise. What can I say we love the Whitsundays. Have holidayed here a number of times[though quite a few years ago] and always loved it. The lagoon at Airlie is really the main attraction of this town [and after the pathetic excuse for a pool aboard the ship] this was a delight. Read Less

Took a provided tour on a bus. It was crowded and led by a "driver-guide" who lived in the area only a few weeks???? Disgruntled passengers finally picked a representative lady to walk forward to request he simple return to ship, a vote confirmed everyone's feelings. This could have been vetted by Viking ahead of the event and we never saw an excursion rep accompany any tour. Based on past cruises, we found this strange. Read Less

Saw crocs in the wild on a river cruise followed by an Aussie BBQ with billy tea and damper for afternoon tea. It concluded with a land tour of the wetlands. More suitable for international passengers.

Tender boat to shore. Walk or bus to town centre, nice place to visit. Could get tours ashore if you wished.

Airlie Beach is a gem in its own right. The tendering procedure was a bit of a shambles however with the free lagoon and very pleasant walk to town this made for a great day out.

I only went to Airlie Beach. There are all sorts of options to get the the reef or one of the islands. There are plenty to choose from.Hook island is great on one side you have all these amazingly colourful fish and just a 10 minute walk to the other side of the island you have coral. Another island South Molle has all sorts of activities, beach volleyball kayaking etc. If you are only going to Airlie beach, you are wasting your time.Although pleasant, there's not much there,; a few shops, a large lagoon pool where you can swim - its too dangerous to swim in the water by the beach. You are much better off going to one of the islands, you can do this very easily from Shute Harbour - 10 -15 minute walk to Airlie Beach. From Shute HArbour there is a regular ferry service that takes you to a few of the islands.
