A lovely city. Everything is close. Great views from Mt Victoria and Cable Car. Maritime and TePapa museums are well worth seeing. It was a little windy on the day we were there, but you can't beat Wellington on a good day.

We took the shuttle into Wellington getting off at Stop 2, then we walked up Cuba Street, finding a wonderful Italian bistro Ombra for lunch. Food and Coffee brilliant.

Walked to the Te Papa museum, spent a couple of hours there, and walked back to the ship. It was a Sunday, so not much else to do if you don't fancy the cable car.

You really don't need to take an excursion. We took the shuttle to town and did the Te Papa Museum, Cable Car, and Botanical Garden on our own. Easy to do and only costs us $5 for everything.

A very wet day, and the fact that we were in Wellington on a Sunday, meant that we stayed onboard. We have visited Wellington many times before and would recommend the Maritime museum.

We booked our own Weta workshop tour and it was very interesting. In hindsight I'd probably do something else, but it was an interesting tour. We had some nice food at a cafe nearby during the hour of free time. It was a nice drive out to the Weta workshop and we also went to see the bucket fountain and had some nice coffee. Wellington reminded me a bit of Hobart. Read Less

Went on free shuttle into town. Rode cable car to top of hill then walked down through Botanical gardens. Stopped for a cup of tea in the rose garden then caught shuttle bus back to ship after a ride around Wellington.

We walked the downtown then on up to the government buildings. Had a fun lunch with sandwiches & local pastries. We toured the national museum but weren't overly impressed. The museum was big on messaging but when one leaves, you've learned little to nothing about the geology of New Zealand, the original flora & fauna, or early migrations. You will see information on native peoples at the time the Europeans arrived. Lots on the early Europeans. and lots of exhibits about how the Maoris culture was destroyed and the natives were swept aside and how non-native species were introduced an almost completely devastated local birds and plant species. Did laundry here at Mall Drycleaning on Johnston St, which is about a 5-10 min walk from where the shuttle drops you off. Then took cable car up to the top of the botonical gardens. There we found a free shuttle to Zealandia, which we took. Zealandia was awesome, lots of birds. Botanical gardens were OK. Old Church of St. Paul was nice as well - it was cool seeing the old wood structure. Read Less

We have been before so no tour required. Te Papa, the cable car and city are well worth exploring.
