We independently booked a friendly, private driver to take us to visit fur seals, and give us a tour of Wellington that focused on the things we were eager to see/do.

Great city to tour on your own. Cable car, Botanic Gardens and Te Papa museum. Te Papa was outstanding. Lots of shops for browsing.

This is an easy city to do on your own. Get off the shuttle bus at the second stop. We toured the museum for free, took the cable car (for about $5) to the top of the hill and walked down towards shuttle stop one through the gorgeous gardens. Tours of Parliament are available but probably should be booked in advance. Make sure you stop in St Paul Anglican Cathedral. It is beautiful with a lovely gift shop and helpful people. Read Less

We booked a private tour and were driven all around the city, up to the look outs and around the beaches. There is a shuttle bus which takes you from the port to the city centre with two stops. Wellington was excellent.

Fantastic place. We have two days here. On the first day I met up with a friend I worked with many years ago. We had a great day and the weather was fantastic which was a bonus because Wellington's weather always gets a bad rap. Second day I spent cruising around the shops. It's a nice city, quite compact and easy to get around. Read Less

Loved the cable car ride to see the view and also visit the Museum, which had original trams and many other objects related to the early development of Wellington. The wharf area is also a nice place to visit.

We did the hop-on-hop-off bus on our own...it was worth doing and was inexpensive. Enjoyed seeing their big 'claim to fame' the world's steepest street. It was a two minute stop...got the picture, moving along.

I felt like being in Jurrasic Park on this excursion. The park is beautiful and there were numerous birds and reptiles spotted. Really worth taking this tour!
