We didn’t want to travel all the way to Berlin, so decided to just stay close to the ship. I wish I had done some sort of tour in the area. We had difficulties getting a train to Rostock ( would not take credit cards, thankfully a nice couple told us about an app we could get tic with) and it was a bit frustrating for a lot of people. When we got to Rostock, we had lunch (good food, horrible service), and then walked around. Everything was closed except for restaurants. It was Sunday. So it was a bit of a bust. Read Less

We toured Berlin with SPB. While the tour was great, Berlin is over 3 hours away by bus or train. This city is large and should not be explored independently given the limited amount of time you will have.

We didn't register for a shore excursion but rather engaged in a self-directed tour. It was easily done -- good shopping, food, beach. It was nice.

We walked to the local train station in Warnemunde from the ship, no more than 10 minutes, and got a day ticket for the local trains, £3.66 each. We took the train to Rostock, about 20 minutes away, and then a local tram to the old town centre. We enjoyed a coffee and then a stroll around Rostock old town and river side before heading back to Warnemunde where we had lunch at water side snack and fish bars. There is excellent souvenir shopping at the port. Read Less

We did not go to Berlin, felt it would take too much time out of our day. Took the train to Rostock - 25 minutes - very nice quaint German City - really enjoyed it.

Very nice little resort town. We embarked in Warnemunde. We spent 4 days in Berlin and took a Flixbus from Berlin to Warnemunde a day before departure. A 3 hour bus ride in a very comfortable bus and only 26 Euros. The bus stopped at the Werft stop which was 100 yards from the Hafenapartments where we stayed the night. We were able to walk to the ship from there the next morning. Highly recommend these very clean, modern, and convenient apartment rentals. Lots of nice restaurants in Warnemunde and don't forget to climb to the top of the old lighthouse for some nice pictures. (2 Euro charge) Read Less

-The dock is in the middle of nowhere. We bought our own train tickets from Rostock HBF to Berlin (27 euro each way). Hardest part was actually getting a taxi from the port to Rostock HBF, all the waiting taxis only wanted to take groups all the way to Berlin. Eventually, we pooled with a few others to convince one cabbie to take us downtown. 15 minute drive for 50 euro, made it in time for the 8:34 train. -One cabbie claimed there was a bus stop a few minutes away from the port. If there was, I never heard from anyone that found it. -Becuase of the cab difficulty, we didn't want to chance taking the 6:13 return train from Berlin, so we took the 4:13 train. 5 hours in Berlin obviously wasn't enough, however in 88-degree weather, it was still tiring. And unlike the ship excursion train, the regular trains were air-conditioned. -But we didn't have cab trouble back to the ship in Rostock, many taxis were waiting, and we got charged 35 euro this time. -Our eventual walking route went from Brandenburg Gate down Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse to Checkpoint Charlie, back past Topography of Terror to Potsdamer Platz.
