Easy (and much cheaper than the excursion) to take the Blue Line Ferry from near the cruise terminal to Rostock which is a lovely Hanseatic town well worth a wander. On return Warnemunde is a delightful seaside town in which to spend an hour or 2. Nothing startling to see but a very pleasant day out. Beware if you have disabilities though the taxis from the terminal will not take you anywhere other than a very expensive ride to Rostock or Berlin and it is quite a walk to the ferry. Read Less

We walked off the ship and took the train to Rostock. It's easy. Rostock is interesting, but you need to remember that it has been almost entirely rebuilt since WW II.

Warnemunde was very charming, we took the train to Rostock then to Schwerin Castle. Each city was easy to find and navigate on foot.

Most people took the all-day excursion to Berlin, but we felt that would be too much. The Warnemunde train station is within walking distance of the cruise port. We bought train tickets to Rostock for about four euros return. We were here about 20 years ago--not long after the wall came down--so it was interesting to see how the city had evolved. Good walkable historic section and pedestrian shopping area. And now there is a big mall at the edge of the old town. Read Less

We just walked around Warnemunde, a really sweet town. A warning though - we walked towards the beach and got bitten by sand flies. We should have remembered the insect repellent.

Warnemunde - A quaint seaside town where two lighthouses standing sentinel along the waterfront and a picturesque street of shops & restaurants along the canal whose colourful boats & ferries complete a breathtaking vista. Rostock - A rustic city whose sights connote medieval sceneries and houses the oldest university in Europe - yes, it's older than Oxford University! I think it was inaugurated around the time that William the Conquerer was planning his campaign to invade England. Read Less

Looked appealing but we had a very wet day so it was a bit like a Bank Holiday seaside resort in Blighty.

Poring rain that day, so only did WiFi at port... but people who did get off enjoyed it. Not in port long enough to go to Berlin. Hope to go back another time.

Went into Rostock and did the town ourselves. Too bad it was cold and rainy. Highlights include St. Mary's Cathedral and the Stasi Document Center.

There was a shuttle bus to the city of Rostock which was quite a long way from the port. We found this expensive but were told there was no public transport available. In fact some German guests were able to walk to a public bus, but they were able to access local information. We were given a map at the bus showing a self-guided walking tour which we followed. Rostock was a very pleasant city to stroll around, with an amazing Medieval church which had somehow survived bombing, and some other lovely buildings too. Read Less

Rostock is a picturesque town. We went to the information centre and got a town map. With that we did our own tour in 2-3 hours. I would recommend that if you are not going to Berlin.
