Today we explored Volos. A city with a name not connected to anything. This is an area that seems not to be on the major tourist itineraries but it is interesting from the perspective of showing what a normal Greek area looks like without the onslaught of tourism.
Traveling down the main city streets we saw regular stores used by the populace: clothing, drugstores, food stores, fresh markets, ...
We arrived in Volos on a Wednesday, everything in Volos closes on Mondays and Wednesdays so it was a ghost town.
Most people took ship excursions to the monasteries but we did not think the long drive or experience would be good for our daughter. We took a bus into the town center for 5 EUR and walked along the waterfront and around the empty town, had lunch by the water and took the bus back, ...
Sunday so most places closed. Walked length of bay as far as cathedral which is lovely. Park nearby with lots of families enjoying time together. Farmers market also there when we visited. Lots of bars and restaurants along sea front. Spent pleasant time eating, drinking and people watching in the sunshine. ...
