Vicksburg National Military Park was haunting. All the memorials from different states and both sides. It would be worth doing some research before you go so you can better understand the docent's commentary - so much information. ...

Due to weather the night before, we were late getting into Vicksburg, which shortened our tour of the military park. We had a very good guide and learned a lot. I wish I had read up on the battle/siege of Vicksburg before visiting and I wish we had more time at the park and to tour the city. ...

WE went to the battlefield and seeing the hills and valleys you could see why there were so many injured and dead. We had a tour guide who really knew his facts and made the tour informative and enjoyable. The tour was purchased on the Viking ship. ...

There is so much history in this city that is located on a high bluff of the Mississippi River across from Louisiana. For over 40 days the residents hid in caves while their city was bombarded during the Civil War. A tour and talk at Christ Church explained that during the siege of Vicksburg, the Reverend W. W. Lord conducted daily services during the constant cannon fire. Three of our ship's ...

Tour of Vicksburg batlefield was on a tour bus. We didn't get out till at the visitor center. Visitor center had displays, pictures and gave a little history of the battle. Very informative. Basically with this many people (two full busses from cruise) there was no other way for us to tour the whole battlefield. Tour director was excellent with his narrative. ...

The local guide on the Vicksburg shuttle was friendly and interesting. The trip was Vicksburg Military Park was a long uncomfortable bus ride with a speaker who clearly knew a lot, had a lot to say, and packed the narration to tightly with facts that my head was spinning and my neck was sore from trying to look in all directions as we passed the various monuments at breakneck speed. Even so we ...

The battlefield tour has always been great. We went to the Old Depot, which served as a hospital during the Civil War. It was the only building not shelled. Today it has models and dioramas in it. We also went to the museum in the Mississippi Corp. of Engineer building. Most people would miss this, but it is very well done. It has the history of the Mississippi, plus how they work on the ...
