Third largest town in Norway with a respected university and bustling tech scene. The Nidaros Cathedral and the two neighboring museums was almost inevitable for every visitor, as with the colorful wooden houses along Nidelva the river. The open-air folk museum looked promising but I did not have time. One may take a ferry for the former prison on Munkholmen, which I skipped too. Instead I crossed the Gamle Bybro and just stroll around, had an artisan coffee and relatively affordable lunch in a heavily gentrified wharf/warehouse area. The upbeat vibe typical for an university/tech startup boom town did come to full swing during lunch hour. Read Less

The shuttle bus dropped us outside the cathedral and the main sites are within a short walking distance. I think the cathedral is better from the outside than in and you might want to save the cost of the entrance fee. Again if you are used to walking there are a no. of sightseeing routes of various lengths you can do. Crossing the Nidela (river) using the old town bridge leads to an attractive area where you can see the riverfront warehouses and a collection of cafes. Read Less

Trondheim is a beautiful town famous for its huge beautiful cathedral. Don't bother paying for an excursion - you can easily walk along the canals and tour the cathedral by yourself using the handy map from the excursion desk. Bring your camera! Read Less

Had a couple of hours to go and explore the town. Having visited 50 years before, I was amazed at how much the town had grown. But the lovely, tree lined street leading up to the Cathedral were just the same. A lovely town, just a shame that certain international eating establishments had been allowed to dominate what should be a beautiful centre of town. Read Less

We walked to the Nidaros cathedral - I saw no reason to pay for the excursion that simply provided a bus and guide. There was no charge to visit the cathedral itself. And the walk was pleasant. Read Less

We walked to the Gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral which is the largest church in Northern Europe and to the Old Town Bridge. We had a pleasant walk through the shops and outdoor markets. Read Less

Caught a free shuttle into town, but walked back after our explorations as the queues for the shuttle were too long. Only 15-20 minutes. Weather was wet and gloomy but saw the Nidaros Cathedral and Archbishop's palace (expensive). The adjacent military museum was very interesting, with displays relating to the various Scandinavian wars. Also walked up to the fortress past the bike escalator.
