Hurtigruten docking quite far from city centre, but adequate time to visit town and see some of the sites.

Almost all main sights are withing walking distance. We also took an all day bus/tram pass and were able to venture into the hills and nearby suburbs.

We had to wait to dock, as another ship was delayed in leaving our berth. We walked to the Cathedral.

Good walking town, enjoyed the wooden buildings .Everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance. A combo ticket fort the cathedral and bishop's palace cost 200 NOK, about $22.00. The Cathedral was worth it but the Bishop's Palace's main attraction, the crown jewels, were in a room that was sealed off with an iron gate. They closed it because they decided security was not good enough. They did tie a pair of binoculars to the gate so we could squint through them to to get a peek at the jewels. Rockheim is the Norwegian Rock and Roll museum. It is right where the ship docks. Read Less

Top tip - take a taxi or bus to the town centre, otherwise it's a long walk. But it'll be worth your while. Plenty to see and reasonably compact one you're out of the port complex.

We did this along using the map provided on the ship Recommend heading out alone on this one, we got to the cathedral as it opened so before the crowds, well worth the trip.

We took a taxi to Old Town and had coffee then went to Nidaros Cathedral becasue it was close. We were so glad we did. It is extraordinary. Such a shame you cannot take photos. We paid extra to climb to the top of the Cathedral and we were rewarded with stunning views. Steep and tight climb. If you are claustrophobic is may be a no go for you. Read Less

Nice walk up to the cathedral. There is an organised tour with a couple of other bits added on, but it was good to stretch the legs.
