We were fortunate to have a local friend who met us to show us around this beautiful town. The ship docked at Mt Manganui where one could walk to the beach and around the headland walk. There were a number of shops and areas to explore there, as well as in Tauranga itself about 15 minutes drive away. A beautiful area to explore. Read Less

Great stop and weather too, walked to the Mt and around the docking area. I went back to the beach and snorkeled along the rocks on the island. The water was warm and just fun to do.

We hired a car and drove to Rotorua. Rotorua was very busy. We had lunch in a park and had a look at the museum, and then went to the Waiotapou Thermal Park. A warning - the thermal park is absolutely 100% not accessible for a wheelchair and if they tell you it is they are out of their minds. Read Less

This was my second visit to this city. The sights and sounds of the Thermal areas and the wonderful Maori culture are a memory that I will never forget.

We had been to Rotorua so stayed in the port of beautiful Mt Manganui, which is an extinct volcano. It is next to a beautiful beach and shopping centre, just meters from the port.

Took shuttle into Tauranga as on our last cruise we did not go here but stayed around Mount Maunganui. Would not bother again. The area around the cruise ship terminal,Mount Maunganui, is much more pleasant. So we came back to the ship and walked into the "mall type" area and had a fantastic lunch at Latitude 37. Excellent food and great service. Read Less

We did a tour on our own through Viator. It would have been great if one couple had bothered to get off the ship in time to leave the port at the assigned time. I think they were waiting for someone to personally invite them to leave the ship. Our driver made the other 12 of us sit around and wait an hour for them. I will take that up with Viator. It cut the tour short for the rest of us. Read Less
