Great views. Comfortable ride considering your are scaling bumpy roads. Would have liked more information from the driver.

Did two different snorkelling excursions. Drift snorkelling which was amazing. Lots of fish and the guides provided coconut meat to bring the fish to you. The other was stingrays and sharks and was also really good.

In the afternoon we booked an Island Tour with e-tahiti on 4 wheel drive vehicles. That was very good to. The scenary was very beautiful allowing for many photo stops. We arrived a couple of days before the cruise and stayed at the Le Meridein Hotel. We took a cab from the airport to the hotel. We would take the local bus from the hotel to Papeete cost about $2.00 US each. The buses run about every half hour to and from the city to a stop near the hotel. in the city the best place to start is at the Tourist Office about a block from where the ship docks. Pick up maps and information about the island. The staff is outstanding. There is a clean restroom behind the tourist office. Two blocks from the Tourist Office there is a large market. Read Less

You have to remember that this is an administrative centre, and so lacks some of the polish of the touristy areas. We just walked around town, had something to eat and checked out the Pearls. Nice, but probably better out of town.

Our 4th time here so we did not take an excursion. This was the embarkation port, and the cruise included an overnight hotel stay which was needed after such a long flight from Boston.

We spent an unreasonable amount of time in the Port of Papeete. A total of 4 days and 3 nights is way too long for this pretty basic large city. Princess Cruises needs to recognize that their customer's do not spend the large amount of time and money it takes to fly to Papeete; just to sit on a ship and stare at heavy traffic, noise, and industrial marine buildings. Why not add a new island or an extra day? Read Less

Yes, were were in Papeete on a Sunday but we WERE docked practically in the center of town. The Public Market was open until 1:00PM and we found a nice cafe with free wi-fi there. We just wandered around town browsing at shops that were open and doing our usual visit to a Super Marche. As we were having dinner onboard we noticed that the street food market was open across from the dock. It took us five minutes to change our minds about dessert and head over for wonderful crepes au chocolate! We made it back onboard in plenty of time and in hind sight we should have brought crepes for the Security Staff. They often don't get the recognition the deserve. Read Less

We stayed at Le Meridien the night we arrived at Papeete. We had been at the Intercontinental 9 years prior and I think we prefer it, but we really enjoyed our short time at the hotel. The hallways are dark and the elevator a ways from the lobby, but our large room and view were nice. We also had a day room there for our day in Papeete at the end of our cruise before flying late at night. I do think the rooms are overpriced, especially the day room as we only used it to shower and change clothes. We would have rather had access to a shower room and luggage storage for much less. We spent the day on the beach and pool area, so really didn't need the room. But at the last minute friends from the ship asked to share our room, so the cost was cut for us. We would have done that from the beginning had we known anyone going on the cruise with us. Our breakfast buffet (included in the first day) was quite good, and we bought lunch the last day - it was good too, but the sandwiches were huge. We enjoyed the pool, the beach, (snorkeling was just ok, not great, and current was very strong) and especially watching the sunset on our last night in Tahiti against Moorea in the background. We considered a helicopter ride here, but it was expensive for a short ride, so opted to relax. Friends that went on an all day excursion loved it, seeing lots of waterfalls. We did visit the market in town once we transferred to the ship - to buy tuber rose leis that we love, and a tropical flower arrangement for our anniversary to have in our cabin - and a Hinano tshirt for my husband. Our weather in Tahiti was the best we had all week, so that made our time there considerably better. Read Less

We didn't get a chance to explore this town but on the way to and from the airport we could see that it wasn't much different than some parts of L.A. with graffiti and poverty. I'm sure if you get away to other parts of this island it is beautiful though. Must say the Polynesian dance show here was awesome. Very beautiful and sensual with out going over the top. The Tahitian people are extremely good looking. Read Less

Medium sized city port with some new and some colonial buildings. Has mulit lane freeways and peak hour traffic jams. Didn't see much of Papeete as we hired a car to drive around and self see the sights and sites.
