Sydney. Having done the Cabot Trail (highly recommend when you’re in port a full day!) the last time we stopped in this Nova Scotian port, we opted this time for NCL’s Spirit of the Senses 2-hour tour, which included a visit to the Membertou First Nations cultural center and Whitney Pier, site of the former steel mill. The First Nations portion was very interesting, but NCL’s description was ...

The main tourist attraction in Sydney is "The Big Fiddle" located at the cruise ship terminal. It was very cold and rainy...we did not venture into town. ...

We did the Alexander Graham Bell museum. It was pretty disappointing. We barely had an hour to go through a museum that, at best, needed three. I spent the entire hour taking photos of all the exhibits and what was written there so I could read it later. Museum aside, the views from the ship of the area were spectacular. It felt like we'd stepped straight out of a postcard! I wished we'd ...

The town was as pretty as we remembered but had obviously been damaged by 'Fiona'. Our afternoon trip to a Highland Village was a run out through lovely countryside to a historical open museum. Rather more Scottish than Scotland in the event but a very interesting visit despite the rain. We had a rather nerve-wracking ride back to the port with the bus evidencing an increasingly noisy mechanical ...

This was probably the worst port we have ever been in. The local tourist map lists the post office as a sight to see and when that happens you know you are in trouble. Best to arrange a tour of the Cabot Trail or the Bell museum. We opted not to tour by bus as we did not wish to be on a bus with 40 passengers who chose not to mask, but that is us. ...

did the Cabot Trail by bus. Was foggy in morning and the ride was much too long. Basically all we seen was highway and trees along the highway. On way back pulled over for a couple of stops to see ocean. Would not do this excursion again. ...

Sydney is a fairly small town in a nice setting. The surrounding countryside was green and beautiful. We walked into town and enjoyed seeing the old houses and churches. We've done land-based trips in Cape Breton in the past, so we didn't do any side trips to Alexander Graham Bell museum, Fortress of Louisbourg, or Cape Breton Highlands National Park, but they are all worthwhile if you haven't ...
