The ship docked l hour away from Stockholm. So, you had to take a tender to shore; then take the bus to stockholm. Our guide just handed out the maps but didn't even say where we were. We covered alot of ground in the 5 hours we were there. We went to the Vasa museum which was amazing. There was a long line but it does move quickly and was well worth the wait. We then toured around the City. So much to see and so little time. The harbour area is beautiful! I would have loved another day there to see the royal palace etc. Read Less

Stockholm: a city built across 14 islands, full of museums, shopping and restaurants. As other people have said, this city is expensive and you generally need Swedish Kroner there, not Euros. At the port, you again have many options for getting into the city. Our cruise line offered a shuttle for $12 each, roundtrip. We chose to purchase tickets on the Hop on Hop off boat. It was fun to travel around the waterways in this picturesque port.Although we did not go to any museums, we did hear that the Vas Museum was excellent. And the Royal Palace was dark and not worth a tour. We enjoyed seeing Stockholm, but Helsinki won our heart. Read Less

While Princess docked in the center of town, our similarly sized boat stopped outside of town in Nynashamn. I had read on these boards that going into town solo was a bit of a process and long going, so we booked a Stockholm on Your Own transfer through NCL. Getting off the boat was a nightmare. Our tour met in the lounge at 7:15am, but we didn't get called to leave the boat until 8:15am. We had to take a tender to shore, which took about 15 minutes. Finally, we made it to our bus for the 45 minute drive into town. We were dropped off near the Opera House. I wish we would have been told ahead of time where we were being dropped. Thankfully I had done research ahead of time, since everyone swarmed our guide once we got off the bus in town for directions. We walked a few blocks to Hamngatan Street to catch the #7 tram toward Waldemarsudde. We never saw a ticket kiosk, so we didn't buy any tickets. It took less than 15 minutes to get to the Vasa Museum and we walked in the door around 10am. Tickets were about $15pp and they accepted AmEx. We spent an hour at the museum. We skipped the video but walked around to all the levels. It wasn't very crowded when we arrived, so we took advantage of that. By the time we were leaving at 11am, tours from NCL were arriving in droves. We hopped back on the same tram to go to Skansen. It was just another 5 minutes down the road. It cost about $20pp but was a great place to spend an afternoon. We spent about 3 hours there and felt like we saw a lot. Definitely find the bakery. They were the best pastries I've ever had and it wasn't even marked on the Skansen map! Our bus was to leave at 3pm, so we took the tram back to town and had a few minutes to peak in the King's Palace before leaving. The 45 minute drive back to port was OK, but then we had to wait about 20 minutes for a tender. The line was ridiculously long! Only 4 tenders were running when every tour was arriving back. Another example of bad planning on behalf of NCL! Read Less

Stockholm is a beautiful city!Be an early bird and watch the ship enter the famous archipelago! Why not have breakfast at your balcony? There is a lot of things to do in Stockholm: Visit Vasa museum, and watch the old wooden war ship with its cannons that was collected from the bottom of the sea 30 year ago after a few hundred years. For the family: Visit Skansen a zoological park, and Gröna Lund, a small amusement park. Take a stroll in Old Town "Gamla Stan". Go to the Ice bar and have a Absolute vodka shot in a glass made of pure ice. Shop at NK and Biblioteksgatan for designer brands and Hötorget for bargains. EATING: In Sweden you can have a set meal for lunch for about 10-15 dollars which includes the meal of the dag = dagens rätt, a drink, salad, bread and butter and often also coffee. This deal is often available on most restaurants between 11.30-14.00. Why not try swedish meatballs? Read Less

Was really looking forward to this port but we didn't actually dock in Stockholm. The stop is actually Nymashamn about 40 minutes drive outside Stockholm so my original plan to get off independently and go to the ice bar after a trip round town were scuppered, especially when I saw the length of the pier that I would have to negotiate without assistance or even a place to occasionally rest.
