Docked in Nynashamn and took the train to Stockholm, it was very easy. Tickets are available right where you get off the ship, follow the blue lines on the sidewalk to the train station. Took the #7 tram from near the train station to the Vasa Museum. Then took a cab to Gamla Stan. All this for MUCH less than a shore excursion and we could manage our own time. ...

-Rather, it was Nynashamn, a good 50 to 60-minute bus ride away from the city. Take that into account when looking at ship itineraries. -The NCL bus excursion was very convenient for time and location, although $50 off sure helped. We've been to Stockholm before, so we chose to walk around on our own. Best Tip: hit the Gamla Stan (old town) early in the morning, in the afternoon it is totally full with tourists as the cruise ships make their tours there in the afternoon. Tip #2: Public toilets are hard to find and when you do you have to pay (10SKR), BUT most don't take change, so you have to use a credit card or buy a ...
