We were docked in Nynashamn and not in the centre of Stockholm. We had to catch a tender boat to the Nynashamn. On arrival we caught a bus that took us to the train station (4 euros) and then caught the train to central Stockholm (100 K for a day ticket) We docked in Nynashamn at 7 however the first tender boat was at 8.15 and we were on it and the first train to Stockholm was at 9. We arrived in Stockholm via Vasterhinge were we changed trains at about 10.15. We caught a bus to the Vasa Museum and we visited the museum and then we caught the bus back to the central station and caught a tram to Gamla Stan. We walked around and saw a few churches in the area and then saw the changing of the guard. We then visited the palace and walked around Gamla Stan. At around 1.30 we started our journey back to Nynashamn. We left Stockholm at 1.49 and on arrival to vasterhinge the next train to nynashamn was in 40 Min's time so we had to wait. We then caught the train and arrived in nynashamn at 3.15-3.30. We walked it to the boat as the shuttle bus should have arrived at 4 and we didn't feel like waiting. It was a 10 min walk. We arrived at the port and caught the tender boat at around 4. The last tender boat was at 5. I must admit was spent most of the day travelling to and fro nynashamn and that was disappointing as we were unable to fully appreciate the beauty of the city. The Norwegian Gem offered a shuttle to Stockholm via bus for 50 dollars per person. I don't know whether that would have been a better option. On the day we were very lucky because it was a beautiful sunny summer day! Read Less

We didn't have enough time in Stockholm, due to some weird issue with our ship's return to Dover two days later, cutting our time short in Stockholm. We did have a good city tour and plenty of time at the splendid Vasa museum.

Our tour guide was great and did some singing for us. Love the Vassa museum also. What a job of restoring a ship sunk so many years ago. Our most enjoyable excursion. Saw part of a guard change and listened to the military band play. Read Less

We anchored 1 hour away from the city. NCL transfer was $59 and the only option available other than an infrequent train service. The local Hop-On Hop-Off tour company was on site when we arrived but our research prior to sailing indicated that they did not pick up at our terminal. Check it out! Stockholm is in the running for our all time "Most Beautiful City" award. It is truly outstanding! We took the local 1 hour Hop-On Hop-Off boat tour of the city and we thought it gave us a good overview of the city - $12. There are also other longer boat tours available. Read Less

We anchored off Nyneshaum and the crew lowered all the large lifeboats ro tender us in. We opted for a bus tour of the small port city rather than spend the time and considerable bucks for a quick look at Stockholm. The bus driver was a woman of middle years in traditional costume; Emma, the guide, was a thoroughly charming 20-year-old recently returned from a year in Australia. She was wearing a traditional crown of fresh flowers celebrating the summer solstice and heavily promoting the afternoon activities at the town park. Read Less

In Stockholm, we had a wonderful guide and learned so much about Sweden's history, present government and way of life in general. We took the Princess "Vasa/Sigtuna" shore excursion. We enjoyed touring St Marys church and then had a short time in Sigtuna which is basically about a lengthy-block long. We then went to the Vasa Museum. Learning the history of the Vasa and seeing the ship was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the museum. Read Less

Before arriving in Stockholm we were informed that we'd only have about 6 hours in port. My husband and I outlined the most important things we should see during this short time and started out on our tour. We went directly to the Royal Palace where we bought tickets to view the Royal Apartments. Since we didn't have much time we couldn't see the whole palace but we had to buy tickets for the whole palace. We more or less raced through the apartments and official visiting areas so we could see the changing of the guard. It was well worth it since it was so impressive. The actual changing of the guard was accompanied by a full band which marched into the quadrangle next to the palace ahead of the guards. This whole spectacle turned out to be a real show and there were crowds of people to attest to that. After that we ran to see the Vasa Ship Museum where we caught a tour which explained the history of the shipwreck. One of the most memorable things, in our opinion, of this museum was the display of skeletons which were found on board the ship. This gave the museum a more personal feel to it. From there we ran back to the Old Town to try and find the Nobel Prize Museum but no one seemed to know where it was. Since time was getting short and we had to get back to the ship we had to skip it. We wished we had had more time in Stockholm to just see the basic places. The prices in Stockholm were very expensive so we didn't buy anything there. Read Less

Worth getting up early to see all the beautiful islands on the way in. If you want to see the Vasa Museum (you must!) and generally walk around the old town, on the quayside where the boat docks there is a small shack where they sell a ticket for the small boats which go round the harbour, one of which includes entrance to the Vasa at a discounted price. The extra advantage of this is that, having bought your Vasa ticket, you don't have to join the long queues at the museum and can simple walk in via the 'groups' entrance. Read Less

We arrived in Stockholm. 2 nights before the cruise. Stayed at the Marriott Courtyard. It was a nice, modern hotel with a good restaurant for breakfast and dinner. 5 minute walk to the subway and just 3 stops from T Centrallen. Ate at M/S Gerdes, a lovely restaurant on a boat. I recommend getting the Stockholm card. We used it to get into attractions and transportation. We took the "Under the Bridges" boat tour. It was ok, but in the future I would have stuck with one of the boat tours covered on the Stockholm card. We went to the Palace, to Gamla Stan (old city) Skansen and the Vasa museum (don't miss this!) Stockholm is magical! We shared a cab to the pier with a couple staying in the same hotel. Embarkation at 2 pm was easy. We were in our cabin by 2:30. Read Less

We were able to see some of Stockholm when we flew in the day before the cruise. We stayed at the Nordic Sea Hotel which was excellent. We walked from there to Old Town and spent the day among the shops and stopped at a restaurant to eat. Servers here were not very friendly in this part of town. Make sure you get a recommendation of a place to eat, but stay out of Old Town to eat unless it's ice cream. Went to the Absolute Ice Bar that evening and it was a lot of fun. Read Less

The highlight of this port is the 4 hour sailing in the archipelago, be sure to see it at least for a couple of hours. We took the 76 city bus to the center of town, just remember to buy tickets before boarding at any little store or info center. Then follow the blue painted line to get out of the port to the bus stop. We went to the Vasa museum, which should not be missed, the movie is interesting, it takes 1 or 2 hours to visit. Then we went to the Royal Palace and it took us the rest of our available time, not to be missed. There is also a nice cultural museum next to the Vasa which some in our group chose to visit and they enjoyed it. Read Less

Stockholm clearly planned their cruise terminal well for tourists. Not only is there a boat hop on/hop off stop a few minutes stroll from where we berthed but there are signs directing you to the centre as well as a line painted on the floor to follow - you really can't go wrong! There were also some tourist information attendants waiting our arrival. Stockholm is gorgeous and very easy to explore. I would recommend the hop on/hop off boat as it allows you to see the city from the water and is an easy and quick way to see as much as possible. Read Less
