The weather was rainy and cool, but we enjoyed a day in Djurgarden at the Vasa museum and Skansen open air folk museum. The public bus was easy to catch across the street from the port. There was a ticket machine that some had trouble with or you could download an app. We walked to the TI at the far end of the pier (closer to the RCCL ship when were there) to buy day passes. Acted like a local and enjoyed a nice meal in a local cafe. The highlight of the day was a visit to the Vasa museum! Amazing!

We took a cab to the Vasa Museum for about $23. We could have walked there but we probably won’t have had the energy to walk and explore on the way back. The museum is the first HOHO stop and people beat us there from the ship because the docks are under construction and busses can use a separate lane that goes faster. I think the HOHO was $20pp so we ended up saving money and the museum never got packed. We loved the Vasa museum. I almost couldn’t get my husband to leave. Just a lot of amazing history there and the irony if a ship sinking on its maiden voyage is amusing. We walked along the water and into old town. We stopped and hadn’t Swedish pancakes (when in Sweden...) at Stortorvet number 3 which is from 1640. So cool! We wandered the streets and alleys and eventually stopped for a beer and heading to the ship. Read Less

Vasa Museum and Old Town were great but be careful of the restaurants in Old Town! We got charged extra to split a pizza between the 2 of us for lunch! I plan to do a review on Trip Advisor on this restaurant.

Our shore excursion with a walking tour and the Royal Palace was cancelled at the last minute by Princess. This was a problem because we were going to meet an important friend from high school after the excursion. The Princess front desk was indifferent to our plight. We were able to text our friend and made new arrangements on our own. She gave us an excellent tour of her beautiful city ending at the Gondolen bar overlooking the harbor. Read Less

Stockholm Sweden, I got up at 5.30 am to watch the ship head to the port through spectacular scenery, little islands with typical small wooden houses were lovely and the bird habitats on these small islands were nice to see. When we arrived in Stockholm again you needed to use the courtesy buses (£4 per person each way if not on select fare) which were delayed a bit due to roadworks in the town so had to wait 20 to 30 mins on the outward bound journey. Stockholm is spread out a bit so if you have difficulty walking then a pre booked tour may be a better option. Although it was ok walking through the town and seeing the palace we enjoyed walking around the harbour area more and in some ways wish we had booked a harbour tour. Read Less

Again, no excursion because I did not see the need in a country with spectacular public transit. However, I did buy a "Hop On Hop Off" (HOHO) bus ticket from the Stromma company. The ship docks at Nynashamn about an hour from Stockholm and the "Hop On Hop Off" bus makes a couple of special runs between the dock and Stockholm. However, I did not catch that they leave the port at 1000. We got off at 0800. The driver explained that many people get confused by this and they just walk 20 minutes and buy a train ticket at the local station. The trip to Stockholm takes an hour. Once there you can use the HOHO ticket inside the city. We took this option and it worked well. Tickets for the train were inexpensive and you need to buy them at the tourist office just outside the port area. You cannot miss it. Once you have a ticket, just follow a blue line painted on the ground for 20 minutes to the station. We got off at the main station in Stockholm and decided to start with the Vasa Museum. Vasa is a ship that sank and was raised and put into a museum. We hopped into a cab and promptly spent 20 minutes in traffic. After creeping along we got out of our driver that the South Korean president was in town and security had tangled up the entire downtown. The HOHO buses were not running at all! Thanks Stromma for not telling the people who pre-bought tickets about a massive issue with your service. I was not happy. However, while stewing at the thought of losing out on precious time stuck in traffic, I noticed 20 men in full military regalia ride by on horseback. We bailed on the cab and discovered the South Korean leader was getting a full military parade/escort to meet the king. Amazing experience and we felt so lucky to have seen it. Security was super-tight, so we could not get in the palace, but the parade more than made up for it. Traffic was a disaster, but I remembered that our HOHO ticket included their HOHO boat that ran around the harbor. We took it from the palace without issue and hopped off at the Vasa Museum. Vasa is amazing! A huge sailing ship that sank hours after it was launched and basically raised nearly intact in 1961. I loved it and the associated museum is fascinating. We also visited the Nobel Museum. Small, but fascinating history of Nobel winners and the man himself. There was a Martin Luther King Jr. exhibit going and it was interesting to see American history from a different perspective. After a quick lunch at a restaurant named "Paris, Texas" (expensive but very tasty), we headed back to the ship. No real issues navigating the public transit. It was easy. In Nynashamn is a small chocolate shop named "ChokladHuset" that you should see the sign on the way back from the train station. Expensive, but excellent chocolate. Their claim to fame is they do the chocolate for the Nobel prize winners when they visit. Read Less

Took the "Hop on, Hop off" boat to the Vasa Museum. It houses a spectacular 17th centruy ship which was recovered and restored. It is over 90% original. The presentation is spectacular, and you can get close enough to almost touch the original ship. For the best experience, we recommend you watch the movie and they take the elevator to the top (7th floor) and work your way down. Definitely worth the trip! Read Less

This is an hour from Sweden but train station is 10min walk following a blue line from port. We took 5 min shuttle bus though, provided by cruise at small cost, then train to Stockholm City. So check train schedule online. Buy day card it's perfect-use on train, trams and ferries so easy to get around Stockholm ourselves. Get map at station or download before. Did Vasa museum, lunch at Gondolen, Gamla Stan (must), enjoyed a fika break, walked around City Hall. Only issue was train back to Nynashamn stopped running/was delayed- so almost stranded us!! But a group of us cruise goers found each other and somehow managed to get taxis back to port in time. Costly (not reimbursed by cruise) but it didn't ruin the trip, Stockholm was just SO pretty and we lucked out with nice weather. Read Less
