Tip: Do not take the NCL shore excursion into Stockholm (we took the "Stockholm On Your Own" NCL Shore Excursion). Way too expensive and you have to report to the Lounge at 7:05 AM!!! Totally unecessary. We were dropped off in town by the bus before 9:00, but nothing opened before 10:00!! We met friends who just took the train in themselves around 9:30. Faster and less expensive (the train schedule is posted in the Shore Excursion office on ship). We recommend that you take the boat cruise and wander around the market near where the boats depart. The Old Town is well worth a half day wandering around. Try to catch the changing of the guard at the Palace. Read Less

Make sure you have a good viewing spot sailing in or out of Stockholm- the Archipelago is amazing! We walked into Stockholm from the port and wandered around on our own using the map provided. It is advisable to have Swedish Krona for refreshments etc as not everywhere accepts Euros. There is a lot to see and do here and we really enjoyed our visit to one of the Palaces. The official Royal residence, Kungliga Slottet is worth a visit plus its changing of the guard ceremony. The Vasa Museum worth a visit too. We would like to return to see a bit more of Stockholm. Not walkable unless you are at the town ferry terminal. If not get the hop on/off bus and harbour tour ticket. Well worth it and allows access to all city attractions by jumping on/off the buses/boats. Unlike UK, all museums attract a charge. For a day trip you can see it all yourself by this method and by walking around. Visit the old town in the centre - very quaint, if a little expensive. Read Less

Then on to the Vasa museum, expensive to get in but a must see, really interesting. We went lateish so had to wait for about 15 minutes before getting in, but the queue moved fairly swiftly. Went on our own, free shuttle bus and map of city! excellent. Easy to walk around, saw changing of the guard which we really enjoyed. Lots of other sights to see, a really nice day. Prices seemed a bit steep compared to England.

The change of the schedule allowed us to have an unexpected overnight stay in the Swedish capital. Princess managed it to arrange shuttle buses and even evening tours. We took the shuttle bus and used the time to explore the beautiful city centre and the lovely old town (Gamla Stan) by night. On the next morning we went on a Princess tour (3 hrs, city drive and Vasa Museum), which was very interesting especially for the Vasa Museum. We just would have wanted to have more time at this interesting museum. Read Less

Did the Skyview tour. Loved it. The view from the top was amazing - and although the sun wasn't shining, there were enough breaks in the cloud to do the city justice. Did a coach trip around too. Very pleasant city. Want to go back.

Here, we took a shuttle into town, and then got tickets for the Hop on Hop Off boats. We made our way over to Skansen, which is the outdoor folklife museum. It is a collection of various houses and buildings from around Sweden from the last few centuries. We really had a great time here. It was nice to be outside and a good way to learn about how the people lived. Note that prior to going to Skansen, we stopped at the nearby Vasa museum, which is a big attraction. We were daunted by the enormous queue to enter, and decided not to bother. Later, other people on the cruise told us the line had moved quickly. I did not mind missing the museum, but if you are interested in it I guess you should not let the long line deter you. Read Less

"Historic Stockholm and Sigtuna" A short visit to the 1000 year old town of Sigtuna, then back to Stockholm's Old Town, with time for shopping (in duty free shops and others) and lunch, and then on to the Vasa Museum, which was a madhouse! Our guide did the best she could trying to separate our group from the general rude, pushing, shoving horde of people who were there. But people who weren't even on our tour would push in front of us to listen to her! I finally escaped and went downstairs to the gift shop while the rest of the group continued the tour for a few more minutes. We got back to the ship about 3:00 p.m., tried to eat some hamburgers at the Mast Grill while fathers and their children fed seagulls and threw food overboard and other kids ran the ice cream machine onto the floor without intervention from the waiters or other staff. A woman in a suit (some type of manager) finally came out and spoke to the men and children feeding the seagulls and throwing food. Then the Romanian manager of the buffet (a brusque, rude man) came out and started glad handing these idiots as if what they had done (endangering others on deck by attracting gangs of seagulls, as well as asking for large amounts of bird guano to be deposited on deck!) was perfectly OK with him. After this series of events, I went back to our cabin and went to bed until the next morning just to escape the insanity! Read Less

Slight drizzle on arrival but that didn't stop us from paying for yet another shuttle into town - 10mins. Passing so close to the many tiny island that make up this part of the world was amazing. You could almost reach out and touch the trees as we passed. Narrow cobblestone streets with lots of restaurants and shops. We didn't take a tour and just did our 'own thing' again and were completely happy with what we saw. Read Less

Gamla Stan - the old town was fascinating with little lanes and specialist shops. Very good for Art Glass and Antiques. It is possible to eat reasonably, open sandwiches and a drink at one of the small cafe's were good value The Vasa museum despite it's daunting queue is well worth it. The place is large enough not to feel crowded and the ship that sank in 1628 is in superb condition, with more than enough to occupy you for several hours. The hop on hop off boat around the harbour allows you to see all the main sights and stop where-ever you like - good value. As I was with an ABBA freak a visit to a Stockholm record shop produced 4 previously unknown CDs. Read Less

Stockholm was the only disappointing port of call. As soon as we left the ship, we were bombarded by HOHO bus and boat touts who were desperately attempting to coax you on their tour. We took the boat tour but found that we could have walked. We didn't visit the Vasa museum. All of the tourists sites are within easy walking distance from ship. We saw the changing of the guards and the old town. It seemed to lack the character of some of the other ports of call. Read Less

A short stay, it would have been great to have another full day to wander on our own. The Vasa Museum and City Hall were first rate, but would have loved to have another day just wandering through the old town, taking a canal cruise etc.
