Great city! Make time to watch the sail in and sail out for views. Dock is amid unattractive grain elevators and shipping yards. City shuttles again for $10E each or take the city bus. Tourist kiosk is too small to handle the mobs but we were among the first to arrive—you can get your Stockholm cards redeemed or purchased there, which allows you to ride all transit. (We had purchased online at home: two days in the minimum.) Then take the No. 1 or 76 buses into town. Royal Palace is nice but do not wait for the changing of the guards: takes almost an hour and is very boring. On to Sodermalm, and up many steps to the skyview gondola restaurant that has a great view. Ferry to Djurgarden (beware: they pack you in like NY subways): spectacular Vasa museum; fun Abba museum (you can be the fifth member and see your video later!); Skansen. Day 2: 9:30 ferry to Drottningholm, the summer palace, which was not worth the time though hour-long ride was nice. The vast grounds were surprisingly barren: Next to the ice bar, inside the Nordic C Hotel: only 60 people at once so you need a reservation. ($205K including a drink). Read Less

As with most of the ports visited, the city is within walking distance and really enjoyable. Ships excursions way too expensive.

Stockholm (Nynäshamn) 7a-6p: - On our own. - We were up at 6a. They made tender ready announcement at 7a. We rushed down and got #1 tender boat. They walked us to ships tender. It was about a 15min boat ride. We walked 15-20 min to the train station in Nynäshamn and caught the 35x bus to Västerhinge Station at 745a. - The train from bus was right there. We arrived at Stockholm Central just before 9a. - It was raining so we took a cab to the Vasa Museum. I enjoyed the Vasa Museum. I got a cappucino, a cardamom pastry - kanelbulle, and a sprinkle ball. - We walked to the Abba Museum but there was a wait and we wanted to see the 1215p Changing of the Guard. We walked to the castle. We watched the change - some of the songs the marching band played reminded me of Disney. - We walked around Gamla Stan - it was so pretty and the views on the water were stunning. - We ate lunch at Cultur Bar and Restaurang and Catarina met us at 2p. It was fun to catch up. - Close to 3p we walked back by City Hall and caught a 349p train. We were back in Nynäshamn at 510p and walked 15min. We got on the tender at 545p - there was a line but it kept moving. The tender process was all very smooth. - Stockholm was very pretty. I wish we had more time. Lot of time in transit – more so b/c of bus to train transfer. Read Less

took the Hop on Hop off. Very usefull to go all around and decide where to stop to visit. Was a holiday when we stopped so the city was not very lively. But visited the City Hall which is very much worth a visit.

This visit was spoiled by the poor weather as it rained most of the day. We iused the HOHO Bus and Boat to get around. However we did enjoy our visit to the Vasa museum despite the crowds.

Wonderful approaches through the archipelago. Weather was foul so we decided not to go ashore. I believe it was a Public Holiday and the place was a bit closed and quiet.

We were very lucky and were able to sail into Stockholm rather than dock at Nynashamn. The 5 hour sail through the archipelago was stunning and so peaceful. We docked at Stadsgarden berth 167 and rather than getting the ships shuttle caught the green Hop on Hop off boat that stopped literally at the rear of the ship SEK135. The service ran clockwise from 10am but started early, just for us, at 8am and went anti clockwise providing a shuttle service between the boat and the Vasa Museum which was excellent. This is the quickest and easiest way to get round Stockholm. We were in Stockholm the day of the Royal wedding which was pretty special. Visited the Vasa Museum which opened at 8.30 (best to get there early as it gets extremely busy) SEK165 which houses a Viking warship. Built 1628, it sank 40 mins into its maiden voyage and rediscovered in 1956. Walked to Gamla Stan (the old town) to the Royal Palace, where the wedding was to take place later that day. Did self-guided walking tour using Rick Steves Northern European Cruise Ports book (a must buy) through Gamla Stan which is full of cobbled streets, cafes, small shops and beautiful coloured buildings. Then caught the boat back to the ship. Cost per person SEK300 approx £25 Read Less
