Excursion was booked up. The port was different from my previous cruise. Liked that one better. Shops ok other than one jewelry store after another. Very pushy. One guy blocked us from passing by on sidewalk trying to force us to walk into the store. Not enough time to do both shopping and taking distant taxi ride to a beach. Read Less

We didn't book an excursion. We walked off the ship at the Crown Pier (?). It's about 2.5 miles from downtown St. Thomas. There a shopping area there. (Fun fact, the area used to be a U.S. Navy submarine base). You can also catch a jingo taxi (pick-up truck modified with benches) to downtown. Cost was $4/person each way. We took the taxi downtown and wandered around for about 30 minutes. Wow (and not in a good way). Very pushy vendors and guys hustling to get you to go into store A or store B. Inside the shops, the staff were nice, but there are a ridiculous amount of jewelry stores (like every other store is a jewelry store). There are also some bars/restaurants but we'd had enough of saying “no thank you” every three steps only to have the guy follow you down the street, so we headed back to the ship. We talked to some folks that took a catamaran/snorkling trip and they loved it...so...maybe choose accordingly. I'm sure there is a nice part of St. Thomas, but downtown isn't it unless you love browsing jewelry shops and constantly getting hustled. Read Less

Our favorite port. But, we only had a few hours in port so could not venture far. Had to be back on board by noon thirty!

St. Thomas was literally 50 jewelry stores, 1 liquor store, and nothing else in the "shopping" area. It was completely redundant; and absolutely nothing was remotely anything like a good deal. The cigars I smoke come from Hondurus, they cost $8.25 apiece to buy in Florida, less if I buy by the box. Here, they were $20 to $30 apiece, but with a "sale" to "buy one get one free." That's not a sale. That's not even a good deal. That was the theme everywhere. Terrible prices posing as sales. I was expecting to see cheaper prices; things we can't get in the US, things to encourage us to spend money there. Read Less

No real town to speak of. Nothing but jewellery stores. Don't waste your money on a taxi from the ship. Take the city bus (same vehicle as a taxi, but only costs $1 each way).

The boat was broke down so they were going to stick us on another excursion. We said no, so we went back to the boat. Also, RC no longer docks at the Downtown so if you want to shop in St. Thomas you have to take a taxi.
