We rented a car and drove the island ourselves (They drive on the right side of the road). Along the way we met a Finnish man trying to get to the other side of the island and gave him a ride. He became our tour guide for us and it really enhanced our trip. He also joined us for lunch and we learned a lot about life in St. Maarten. If you do rent, I would suggest renting primarily from Hertz. ...

Nice. Preferred French side as I found the Dutch side to be to dirty and strewn with trash everywhere. I know it's a different place, but the moment you crossed to the French side it was very different. Seems to me people go to these places to buy jewelry which is astonishing. It's like they're giving it away for free but in reality it's the same price as you'd find at Costco. I don't get it. ...

Beautiful port. We were able to visit the French side as well as the Dutch side (where we docked) and there were beautiful sights all around the island (we caught a glimpse of quite a few iguanas sleeping in the trees, so cool!) people were friendly too. Highly recommend this port. ...
