We did the Romney Manor & Rain forest tour through Carnival. We had a very good guide although I do not remember his name. This is quite a long tour. We were in the rain forest for approx and hour and a half. Romney Manor and Caribelle Batik was nice and we got a couple of souvenirs. The shops at St. Kitts port seemed expensive to me, but they did seem to be higher quality as well. There was a wedding at Romney Manor when we were there and they were taking pictures, it was quite interesting to see. We only got a brief glimpse of a monkey in the rain forest :( because they have recently built zip lines overhead and the noise scares the monkeys. I don't blame them, it was really loud and people were screaming too.   Read Less

Sky Safari Zip Lining: This was one of my wife's favorite excursions on our trip. Even I who am afraid of heights, had a great time on this one. The harness system, spring stopping system, etc. made this excursion safe, and fun. Only problem was it was so bloody hot, that by the time we finally got done with the whole thing I just wanted a nice cold drink. Only to discover the drinks they had in the refrigerator were only luke warm. Oh well, still better than nothing! But the excursion was great zipping over trees, across a valley. Like I said, even though I'm somewhat afraid of heights, I had a great time, felt safe the whole time, well worth doing. Read Less

We took a tour with Thenford Gray Tours and I would highly recommend this tour company - very professional! Why only a "4" rating - my husband had chosen an eco tour - we climbed a volcano. My legs were still sore from Dominica and it just was not a tour I would have chosen. If you like hiking up a mountain - this is the tour for you. My husband loved it - I did not. We had a pleasant driver. I would definitely book a tour with Thenford Gray again - just a different tour. It was also raining a lot that day and very humid - but hey, that's the caribbean and a rainforest hike! The rain was actually nice because it was very humid. I would look forward to a different tour if we get to go to St. Kitts again. Read Less

Our plan for St. Kitts was to take it easy so we didn't book anything. We went into Basseterre and just wandered around with the help of a guide book. It's a lovely little town with some pretty old colonial buildings. I would recommend spending some time just looking around the place. We didn't intend on doing much shopping in St. Kitts, but we ended up doing quite a bit there (and the shops actually were on Carnival's recommended shopping list-who knew). We had a few drinks at the open air bar that is in the center of the port's main shopping area and watched the people go by. All in all, it was a relaxing day. Read Less

We chose the Pelican Beach Snorkeling adventure.  There wasn't much of a beach but my brother and sister-in-law did the Snorkeling while my husband and I sat on lounge chairs on the beach.  There was an observation deck on where I was able to take pictures of my brother and sister-in-law Snorkeling.  Also, one of the employees of this adventure, threw some bread in the water to attract some of the fish closer to the deck, so even if you didn't snorkeling, you could see some of the beautiful fish. We took about a 30 minute taxi ride for $10 to Cockleshell Beach. He picked us up and had us pay when we got back to the ship. The beach was nice. Out of Coki Beach in St. Thomas, Turner Beach in Antigua, and Malibu Beach in Barbados, it was my least favorite. They charged you for chairs and umbrellas. When we got there it wasn't very busy. We walked down the beach a while and found a couple of nice palm trees and just put our towels down right there. The beach was a little dirty with seaweed and other stuff. It was still nice. I mean really...how bad can a beach in the Caribbean really be??? By the time we walked back to the taxi, we found that about 50 college students had taken over the main part of the beach. There is a medical school and vet school in St. Kitts. Makes me want to go back to school to be a vet or a doctor...Make sure you have your taxi driver stop to let you take a picture on the way back. There is a spot where you can see the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Caribbean on the other. Read Less

St Lucia and St Kitts were more of the same.  Shopping and walking around was getting tiresome.  The Islands were beautiful but we were getting tired of the same old thing port after port.  The carribean ports become redundent after awhile, so excursions are highly recommended.  Get out and see all of the islands' inner beauty rather than pounding the pavement everyday.  St Kitts was a great place, but we felt like this island had a rough edge to it.  Some locals were rude and the people looked hard in appearance.  We still enjoyed St Kitts for what it was though.  St Lucia was pouring rain and we stayed on the ship that day relaxing on our balcony.  Overall we enjoyed our cruise.  The weather was terrible at times but we made the most of it.  Would like to go cruising to some other islands next time.  If there was one island to sit for 4 or 5 days and relax, it was definately St, Johns, Antigua.  This place was truly wonderful and we will spread the word.... We cabbed it to Cockleshell Beach with some of our table mates from dinner and had a great 3 hours out there. At one point we saw monkeys running across the street and the driver stopped to let us take pictures.....at one point you can take a photo of the Atlantic on the north side of the island and the Caribbean on the south side. Very cool.....probably wouldn't go back to St. Kitts for a full vacation but it was an underrated surprise on our itinerary. Read Less

Another port with nothing booked. Grabbed a taxi in the town square at the port. Seemed like a likable fellow. Needs a little work on being a tour guide. Nice cab and a good tour but not very good narration. His name was Robert and he might have been having a bad day but that does affect how much fun you have. Went to Romney Manor (beautiful old mansion and grounds) now housing Carribelle Batik. I think the original tie dyers. Beautiful clothing that they seem to think is world famous. Our driver said he didn't have time to go up to Brimstone Hill Fortress so get that included before you get in a cab. Took us to where the lava flowed into the ocean. Unique black sand beaches. Back at the port we walked around a very nice downtown and had some local beer on a second floor patio. Met up with some fellow cruisers at the bar in the port square and had a few. Bought our beers in one of the stores for $1.25 instead of from the waitress. Tipped her well for the rum punches though. Don't know if something was slipped into the rum but the two people who were drinking it don't remember getting back on the boat or the next two hours after. Neither was intoxicated. My wife ate at the Asian bar and the other lady went to her room, had a shower and dressed for dinner. Neither has any recollection of the 2 hours after leaving the port bar but both seemed normal. Be careful at that bar. Read Less

Reputed to have the friendliest people in the Caribbean - but to be honest we didn't notice this. Perhaps it was because it was a sunday and everybody was inside watching the Cricket match from Guyana. We took a train ride around the island which was "cute", but not inspiring, but it is a very beautiful island where the main industry, sugar, only stopped operation about 4 years ago in 2004 when the sugar subsidies stopped. We found it bit run down, but a private car or taxi trip might be the thing to do here. Read Less

In St. Kitts we grabbed a couple who were asking the price of taxis to Cockelshell Beach which is where we were headed and wound up sharing the van with them and the fare for 4 was $6.50 pp each way. We were disappointed in the beach - it's not real pretty. The beach was OK and we rented chairs again for $5. Snorkeling here wasn't great and may have been better if the water was clear. Visibility ranged for about 4 - 8 feet or so. Swimming was OK here and we opted to try some conch fritters for lunch. Read Less

St. Kitts was a new stop for us. We arranged an island tour on our own with Royston Tours. We had a full day tour with Royston, and would do this again. I recommend booking some kind of a tour if you're a first-timer to St. Kitts, as the port shopping area is much smaller than what you might be accustomed to in other ports. The padding on the lounge chairs show their age a bit, but that's small potatoes compared to the breathtaking view out into Frigate Bay and the mean drinks served up by the bartender of the Shiggity Shack! The food looked pretty darn good too. The water is calm, but the bottom is a little rocky, but you can see clear to the bottom so there's no problem. We had a great day. Read Less

St. Kitts is late in making the transition for a sugarcane-based economy to a tourism-based economy, and in a way, that makes St. Kitts an interesting destination. While there are already a lot of resorts, there is an unspoiled quality to the island. We did a tour of a famous fort as well as Romney Manor which had an interesting batik studio as well as a lush tropical garden. After seeing the incredible scenery in Dominica, St. Lucia, and Antigua, St. Kitts is only "moderately amazing" as it's not lush or blessed with a stunning harbor, but there are sweeping views from the mountains of neighboring islands such as Nevis, Saba and Statia. Like Antigua, there were taxi touts pressuring cruise passengers to take tours with them, but they were less pushy here and when you said "thank you, I already have a tour," they seemed pleased enough with that to say "All right then, have a good time." While I enjoyed St. Kitts very much, I don't think I would pick a cruise specifically for this island the way I might to see St. Lucia or Dominica. Read Less
