First time here and we loved it. Took a taxi who drove us to a beach and to the mountain top to see a panoramic view of the leeward and westward side of st. Kitts. Very nice. Many natives to the area will harass you right off the cruise ship to drive you around...a little too much. Read Less

Having visited this island previously and having learned that the St Kitts sugar cane railway (which is very expensive anyway) was not running due to a recent derailment, we took a taxi to South Frigate Bay and enjoyed the facilities at the Timothy Beach Resort. Its adjacent to the beach, but we had lovely sunbeds with thick mattresses, use of the rest rooms, restaurant, etc, etc, all for free by just checking in at reception on arrival. If we had wanted to enjoy the beach, it was just down a few steps, but its a black sand beach and was quite crowded with cruise ship passengers. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas for rent on the beach, lunch and drinks at Mr X's Shiggidy Shack and plenty of taxis readily available for the return journey to the cruise terminal which had grown so much since our last visit we were amazed - plenty to see and do there too, lots of shops for anything you could wish for really. Tour with Rosie and Jim cabs ($45 I think). Saw batik place, brimstone hill fortress, black rocks, etc in circuit of island, then down to cockleshell beach. Again visibility no good for snorkelling. Rosie friendly and good, non rushed tour. Would recommend. No drinks are included, but entry to fortress was. Was time at end to see capital and for a spot of shopping. Nice relaxed day. Read Less

Fifth day was at St. Kitts. I used Poinciana Tours which charges $45 per person for a 3 hour island tour. We ended up having our own private tour as the other two groups scheduled for the day had canceled. David owns the tour company and is the tour guide. His wife made us some really yummy raisin bread and he gave us each a bottle of water. He took us to the Cabrielle Batik, which we skipped because we weren't really interested in it. After that we headed to Brimstone Hill Fortress which was awesome. Great views from up there and you even see St. Maarten. He then took us to the other side of the island to see the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The tour normally ends at the beach but we skipped that as well. I only rated this a four because I don't know what the beaches are really like or the shopping. Read Less

Took a taxi to South Frigate Bay beach, $6 per person. Paid $20 for umbrella, two chairs and a bucket of 5 beers. Great relaxing day at the beach. Beach was clean and uncrowded. Vendors a bit pushy. Went on a catamaran snorkel excursion! Great crew, lots of fun (rum and coke, yes please!) and great snorkeling! I will say this was a bigger group (about 40ish) versus our excursion on St. Thomas (18) and the St. Thomas crew was much more organized and helpful. Luckily we did not need much of an explanation, but getting flippers was more of an ordeal than it should have been. The crew did not believe many of us women when we said we needed size 10 women's flippers. I wear a size 10 shoe. Why are you debating with me? Finally got that situated out (after they made me try on a smaller pair that did not fit). Back to port, lunch over the casino (pretty tasty fare), pic with a monkey (only pay 3-5, they sometimes ask for 20, don't give it for only 1-4 ppl, if you have 6 kids, give them a bit more, use your judgment!) And shopping, it was ok here, I found the jewelry stores on some items high and others they were willing to give me a great deal! Research before you go! Read Less

We didn't have any particular plans in St. Kitts, so when a man approached us offering a 4-hour taxi tour of the island for $20 pp, we took a chance and jumped on it. It turned out to be a great decision...we saw a majority of the island, and th tour included free beer and soda. The driver wasn't exactly a tour guide, but he did explain our stops and was very friendly. We went to several overlooks, the Caribelle Batik, a few historical points of interest...the island is poor, but we felt safe and secure in the air-conditioned van. Look out for the "monkey guys" after you walk into Basseterre...once he puts the monkeys on you, you're a goner. Read Less

The last time we were at St. Kitts we were able to rent a car for about $45.00 and drive all around the island exploring. It is beautiful, and at one point we actually considered retiring to the island. However, we were told that the government had greatly increased taxes recently and the rental car rates jumped to over $100.00 for the day. We had a short day in port and there was no way were going to pay that rate. We decided to take a taxi for $16.00 each way to the Shipwreck Bar and we hung out there and did some snorkeling (Just OK). Read Less

In St. Kitts we went on the Rainforest tour we booked by Royal Caribbean. We took a bus and had a great tour guide. I wish I could remember his name as he was awesome. It was interesting on the drive to the forest to see the villages. We passed by some very poor areas were the people obviously did not have much. Our guide told us that tourism is the only income of the island, since the sugar trade has shot down there. They desperately need to have recycling as plastic and glass bottles and other trash litter some of the streets. The rainforest was beautiful though and I was impressed by the knowledge of the plants and wildlife that our guide had. Before we walked into the rain forest we were taken to a lovely garden with a gift shop. We were saw monkeys in the trees there and were later surprised to see that people have them on leashes as pets also. After the tour we went back to the ship for lunch and then came back out to the port. The town is right there at the port. We were immediately approached by the young boys with the monkeys who want you to pay them for pictures with the moneys. We did a picture with monkey as it was hard for me to say no. The monkey were very cute. We shopped awhile and then we got soaked by rain and went back to the ship. Read Less

We had booked a tour online with Thenford Grey who met us at the cruise terminal at 9:00 am. He had a small air-conditioned bus for 16 people. We started the tour by being introduced to the Governor General of St. Lucia (Sir Cuthbert Sebastian) who was in a car in the area in front of the cruise terminal. We then boarded our small bus and started the tour going through the city of Basseterre while Thenford gave us the history of the island and local landmarks. We stopped along the water’s edge to view pelicans diving into the water for their meals. Our first stop was at Romney Manor. This estate was once owned by Samuel Jefferson II, the great, great, great grandfather of Thomas Jefferson. In 1834, the owner at the time Lord Romney freed his slaves. Now it is home to botanical gardens on its grounds of 10 acres as well as Caribelle Batik. Here we had about 45 minutes to view the demonstration of the Batik process and walk the grounds. Thenford was very well versed in the flora and fauna of the area. He was reciting both scientific and local names of each plant or tree. While there we spotted several families of Vervet “Green” Monkeys which have a larger population on the island than humans. Thenford reminded us that there is only one letter different between pet and pest. Our next stop was to visit the World Heritage Site called Fort Brimstone Hill. This large fortress was once called the Gibralter of the Caribbean. From its highest vantage point you can view 7 different islands on a clear day. It has been restored and offers wonderful views of the surrounding area. Thenford provided cold water for us. We then drove back through Basseterre again heading to the southern most point of the island to visit a beach at Cockleshell Bay. Here there were a few restaurants and bars along side the beach. They also had a small menagerie of animals with monkeys, goats, and pigs. We stayed there for 2 hours before returning to the ship. Several passengers went swimming and snorkeling while there. Old San Juan was a nice port, would have enjoyed more time there. St Maarten was not our favorite, apparently it has changed. Highlight was the original French bakery for lunch with the best ever pastries and some shopping for gifts. St. Kitts was beautiful, toured the Island with an independent taxi,visited the batik studio, went to the beach,snorkeled did a little shopping. We may go back there and stay a few days. Read Less

No excursions here. We just relaxed and sampled the local brewery's home brew, which is Carib beer. This is brewed in St. Kitts. Awesome flavor. Again, think i tried 7-10 :). But lovely area with good culture. Read Less
