Going into town was like running a gauntlet - constant badgering by locals to make use of their tours. Some friends took the ship sponsored train tour and enjoyed it. Others hooked up with a local who took them around the island and to the beach, and they were happy with that. The goods available in the local shops were, for the most part, over-priced and made in China. ...

Was told by a friend to go to Reggae beach but our taxi driver encouraged us to get off at the quieter end of the beach, called Lion Rock beach I believe.They were great, again, delicious punch and inexpensive local beer. Nominal amount for chairs and umbrella and it was an absolutely gorgeous beach. ...
