Hired a car in advance and picked it up from the Airport. Drove to a coastal path we had seen on the map and walked for a while until we got to a secluded beach. Too rough to swim as myself and another guy found out when we were swept off our feet and onto the rocks! Bruises aside, was a good trip and found lots of wildlife including a tortoise! Drove around the rest of the Island and could see the repair work going on after the hurricane damage. Not much to see in the main town except the short walk to shell beach. Read Less

Another highlight of our cruise. We walked to the nearby Shell Beach and the more distant Nikki Beach. Lots of high-end stores. My wife found a nice blouse for $US80.

The tender drops you at the dock in the center of town on this small French-speaking island. Restaurants and shopping are much higher priced than other parts of the Caribbean. We walked to the TI from the tender (the TI is located on the water about a block and a half from the dock and is not well marked). We got a map from the TI and walked around the small town to Shell Beach where we found a lot of the singers and dancers enjoying an hour of beach time. Most shops were closed during the middle of the day. Read Less

Tender dock is right at the edge of Gustavia's tiny but classy downtown. Fun window shopping, we walked over to Shell Beach, had a lovely swim and then a pricey (but not out of whack with NYC or Hamptons pricing) lunch al fresco under a shade awning with our toes in the sand at Shellona (in what used to be to Do Brazil space). Great time exploring the island. Driving is on the right side of road. Lots of things to see on this tiny island. Great beaches. Don't miss the airport. Flights coming in are crazier than Maho beach in St. Maarten.

St. Barts is as unwelcoming as ever to day visitors. It is very French, very expensive and quite snooty. We didn't expect much and St. Barts met our expectations. We walked around a bit. The Shell Beach was nearby and nice.

Downtown area was really nice. We rented a car and drove all over the island for a couple of hours. Don't rent a scooter...the streets are narrow and it's very hilly and unsafe.
