Skagway was gorgeous cute little one horse town with no stoplights but a nice friendly bunch of people tons of little shops easy to walk around nice little park you could pack a picnic from the cruise ship and bring a blanket and have a picnic. They have a neat scenic train you could take it’s about $150 per person for about three hours and it goes 20 miles each way. We didn’t take that excursion ...
We took the White Pass train tour, which was approximately 3 hours long. It was spectacular, but right after crossing into Canada, the train turns around and returns via same set of tracks. Previous years, the train went further into Canada, which would have been better. Skagway is a beautiful small town ... take your time to sight see and enjoy. It was cold (50's and blustery winds). ...

Loved this port and the tour with Alaska X https://www.alaskaexcursions.com and get on a 1 hour boat ride (that was awesome) back out from Skagway to the glacier. (Zach was funny and well worth listening to for the 1 hour out and 1 hour back ride...heck yeah!) Yes, I know spending two hours in a boat sailing to/from the glacier seems like a lot...especially after you just sailed in all day, but ...
I love Skagway but it has changed so much since 2008 when I was there last! We did the sled dogs, panning for gold and the Train. We loved it all but the gold panning is geared more for small kids. It was fun to learn the history and the process but I was a little taken aback by the high sales pitch of buying more gold flakes to add to your "findings". It was definitely a way to make money, ...
The only port where we had actual time to walk around as well as take our excursion (Gold Panning/Sled Dogs/Train Ride). The town was very much a tourist trap, but the tour guides were well aware of it...1 bank...21 jewelry shops. ...
