These two things are well worth visiting; a lot of great work is being done there. It would have been nice to have more time there as well. Read Less

Spectacularly beautiful city. Our favorite of all Southeast Alaska ports. Similar to Seward in beauty and views. Many bald eagles, and great drive up the mountain.

We organised our own tour in Sitka with Alaska shore tours, they were very good to deal with, well organised, very entertaining and knowledgeable guide and considerably cheaper than the same tour through Celebrity.

Possible to walk most places after shuttle downtown from ship. We walked through the National Forest and then to the Raptor Center. Great information and beautiful birds up close. Some folks took advantage of the low tides and walked out and played with the shoreline. Bear repair facility also accessible without doing a ship excursion. I prefer birds to bears, so didn't take the five mile trek. Read Less

Sitka is beautiful! We made a short stop at the Russian Bishop's House but did not take the guided half hour tour. We visited the Sitka Sound Center and had a blast exploring the touch tanks. We spent time on the beach and walked through the Sitka National Historical Park. We had fabulous weather! If you are in Sitka on a sunny day, spend as much time as you can outdoors. We grabbed Subway sandwiches for lunch because we wanted to maximize our time outside in the natural beauty. Read Less

The Raptor Center in Sitka should be a must see while you are visiting. The work that the center does to restore the injured raptors to health and ultimately release back into the wild is awesome.

We walked around the town and shopped. Very nice, clean town. We ate lunch on the balcony of a little corner hotel/restaraunt. It was delicious. Nice quaint town.

Our travel agent supplied free tickets to the Raptor Center. We took a taxi over and walked back with stops at the Historical Park and along the walking path near the water's edge. We also visited the downtown area before returning to the ship. Sitka is one of our favorite places in Alaska. The beauty of the bay and surrounding mountains as you sail in or out is very beautiful. The only drawback is that they now have a new dock that is several miles from the downtown area. In the past we anchored just off the downtown area and were tendered in. The view from the anchored ship was much more interesting than that from the new dock. Read Less

Love Sitka ! This was our third time here and we rented a car from alaska coach tours. They met us at the dock with the car. We stopped first at Fortress of the Bear which is an awesome place and the work they are doing is excellent. We then stopped at the Raptor Center which again was very good, the signage to find it could be better though. Both stops were in beautiful settings and very informative. We then stopped at the National Historic Park with totem poles and hiking trails. Read Less

We visited the Sitka Sound Science Center. It's small, but it's worth visiting. The staff were friendly and informative. The touch tanks were cool. How many aquariums let you touch a starfish or a sea cucumber? We went hiking in Sitka National Historical Park and came across a bald eagle posing on a tree trunk. We stood watching him in awed silence for at least 10 minutes. We also hiked to the beach and saw even more bald eagles! A group was hunting for fish and flew back and forth over our heads between the water and the trees. It was amazing!! Read Less

Sitka is a nice port town with lots to do and see. A cab will take you to the Fortress of Bears and just about any other local spot. Cab drivers are waiting at the port building.
