don't skip exploring this little town because you don't want to take the bus to get there. The bus drivers are funny and informative and keep you entertained for the 15 minute ride. Once in town, there are some great shops and an amazing church to go see. We were lucky enough to have the Deacon there and he told us the story about when it burnt down and what it took to rebuild. Simply amazing. Read Less

Everybody's favorite port! Never enough time in this port. Where is the yarn shop? Is it still in business? I couldn't find it this trip.

Beautiful island. We hiked the Mosquito Cove Trail in the Starrigavan Park. We walked from port to park on main road - 45 minutes one-way, flat walk. Hike in park was fairly easy but has lots of steps up and down. Very pretty and lots of locals out hiking on trail too. Not touristy. Cruise offered bus ride to park, but found $85 each a steep price. So we got our exercise for the day, but after being on ship the whole day before, we enjoyed the walking. Read Less

We took the designated shuttle to the Raptor Center and the Fortress of the Bear. Bothe places were wonderful, in spite of the constant rain that day. Shuttle was a nice ride with pleasant staff.

Really enjoyed visiting this port, which was a lot bigger than expected. Walked around town, at a Filipino restaurant (lots of crew there as well), and overall a nice shopping experience with great weather.

Take the bus from port to downtown, and back. National Historic Park is easy walk, maybe 15 minutes, follow signs along harbor. Bishops House must see, take the free tour.

We did go to the Sitka Public Library. We were in search of a English-Russian dictionary. My brother wanted one, as his Alaskan souvenier.

This is a very small town and I think our 2800 cruise ship just overwhelmed it. Restaurants services were slow to bad, food were mediocre. We paid $45 for a burger, a beer and a soup, plus tips. So-so stuff and disappointing seating. In all due respect, we decided to eat at the ship. Speciality restaurants only asked for US$29/pax cover Read Less

Lots of shopping in local stores as well as a trail into the woods nearby which I did not undertake but heard it was nice. Check out the Sitka Rose gallery for work from local artists at reasonable prices.

We took the shuttle into town, and from there took a tribal shuttle out of town to Fortress of the Bears, and then to the Alaska Raptor Center. Both were fantastic! I really enjoyed seeing the bears. These are 8 bears that were taken in when they were orphaned. Typically such bears were shot, because there was nowhere to take them. The Fortress was delightful, watching the bears playing together and eating the fruit tossed to them. Made for some great pictures! The Raptor Center was also terrific. It is where various raptors, like eagles and owls, are taken to rehabilitate before being released back into the wild. Or, some who are unable to return, are kept there and cared for. It was awesome seeing these birds up close. We returned to the town following the tours, and did a little shopping before it was time to return to the ship. Read Less

Walked by the boat docks and out to the Totem Pole park. My friends went through St. Michael's Cathedral and got some great pics. Wish I had gone through there. We all went through the Russian Bishop's House, at least the part that was free. That was neat. Read Less
