Sihanoukville lacks the infrastructure of the other ports. Best bet here is to Sohka beach resort and enjoy their pool and beach for the day. Cruise passengers pay $20usd for day use of the facility.

I have been there before. The place is just a beach town, with many hippies, backpackers and some friend of hashish and the like. Generally I like Cambodia, but no Sihanoukville

If you've ever been to a place where you thought the vendors, dealers, or sellers were hungry and aggressive (Jamaica comes to mind), those people paled in comparison to the tuk-tuk drivers of Snookieville! We boarded a ship shuttle to go downtown, and once we left the secure area of the dock, we were surrounded by at least 50 drivers, all jostling for position to see us and remember our faces to hound us unmercifully once we alit at city center. A tuk-tuk driver practically joined us at the hip on our way through the central market, never leaving us alone, imploring us to let him take us on a tour of the local environs, shops, beaches, etc. We weren't interested. Then we saw the incredible poverty of Cambodia, and realized that these guys (and they were all men) were doing everything they could to provide for their families. The Central Market is fascinating, because it isn't geared to tourists at all. It's the central shopping point for the locals to buy food, clothing, and every day necessities. And the poverty is heartbreaking. Families of 5 get onboard little Honda motor scooters to transport their purchases. Dad drives, little kids get sandwiched in the middle, and Mom or Grandma rides in back. Lots of begging from authentic beggars. Not for the soft- or faint-of-heart. Read Less

I don't know how to rate this, because we weren't expecting a lot. The city-center market was fascinating, because you got to see how a middle-class grows and thrives. Someone has to catch the live seafood, then someone has to buy it, then someone has to rent the space in the market and sell it to the locals. Thus the evolution of the economy. What first seems poverty turns into a thriving lifestyle. Be aware that there are amputee beggars lying and beseeching. We have so much, and they have nothing, so dropping a dollar or two isn't a big deal. Except that you get noticed. The tuk-tuk drivers are the hungriest people on the planet. We took the bus into town, and the local drivers zoomed along side us and (seemingly) picked out us as targets. Once in town, they didn't let us go. Ever. One followed us into the market, and we had to wind our way in and out of the stalls to try to lose him. When we finally thought we were rid of him, he showed up again, trying to give us a tour. I finally gave in, and let him drive me back to the ship for about $10l My husband was bound and determined to get a massage in every port. When he asked the tuk-tuk driver about it, he was taken to a brothel. Nope. Next stop, a place that wasn't very clean. Nope. Final stop, a place with a blind masseur who was wonderfull Read Less

Arranged this tour for 20 CCs in advance with the Don Bosco Hotel School. It was a fantastic day out with wonderful people. The school students and a teacher acted as guides as we visited the fishing village, a water fall, the market and other sites in the morning. We stopped at their coffee shop and all the students were stood outside to welcome us! We had a wonderful stop with coffee, cake, ice creams included. Later we visited the Hotel School for lunch and again were welcomed with a line up and a refreshing fruit cocktail. Then we were entrained with traditional dancing and a 3 course lunch served and cooked by the students. We ended the day at the beach and it was one of those special days to remember! It's a wonderful charity and l urge you all to visit. It cost 49 USD each and was the best value of the whole cruise Read Less

HAL charged for shuttle to get to the main village which is very poor, dirty and full of pushy taxi drivers. The booze is cheap and the market large, surprisingly clean and friendly.
