We didn't get to take an excursion here. Had planned for the "Gourmet" tour with a stop at the Barolo winery and truffles at Alba, but that was cancelled at the last minute! We ended up just going into Savona and getting on a little train that took us around the city. Not great. The narrative repeated the same thing over and over. Read Less

Not much to do in this tiny town. If I had it to do over again, I would take an excursion to another town. Obviously the stop/port is so people can get on the boat - not because it is a destination

Sadly, our ship excursion for wine and truffles from Savona was cancelled. So, we spent the day on our own. Saw the small Sistine chapel and the fortress. There is an exercise group that meets at the fortress on Sunday mornings, so we saw lots of people in red shirts exercising and running around the fort. Walked through the waterfront fair (children oriented) and made our way to a restaurant called Luna. Thoroughly enjoyed it there. The owners liked practicing their English with us, and made a custom pasta dish when we had a "gee wouldn't it be nice if..." request. So, Savona was nice enough, but I don't think there is more to see there. Read Less

This was a pleasant surprise because we knew nothing about Savona and it turned out to be a pleasant little town, easily walked around and full of nice buildings. Nothing spectacular but clean, friendly and welcoming.

Easy exit from ship directly into an area of town without many services. Taxis available. 10 minute drive to train station. Exploration of Genoa is possible from Savona, where there is the world's second largest aquarium.

So easy to get on and off your ship here. Nice modern small terminal. Very short walk and you are right in town having passed the small but friendly tourist office, just take the map as there isn't much else but if you have specific questions, they will help. If you are here on a Sunday, there is a market taking place but we preferred our second visit on a week day when all the lovely little shops and cafes were open. Walk up to the end of the main street and you'll come upon an open square with a pleasant garden. About 10 minutes brisk walk to the right of here you'll come upon the Ipercoop (hope that is right) shopping mall which is great if you want to shop! Huge hyper market for all those lovely Italian goodies you may wish to take home but don't forget you still have to carry them so shop light! Nice helpful staff here, too. Read Less

We loved this port. The locals were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasing. We sat at a local cafe' and used their free wifi. I would visit Savona again,.
