Nothing there to do really, just a hot place and lots of walking as the town is not near the port! Hot, ugly, waste of stop.

There is not much to do in Sarande however we had a pleasant afternoon at the beach and using in a bar along the beach front. There are a lot of beggars especially children so that is difficult to see. Food and drink is very cheap

Next stop was Sarande, Albania. I was a bit nervous about this port after reading the reviews. We were tendered in, which was the easiest tender we have ever had, although we waited til the main rush was past. When you get off the tender, you are met by numerous taxi drivers advertising their trips to the blue eye national park etc. Walking towards the beach is quite depressing. It’s really run down. There are lots of beggars, but they don’t pester you. Many have babies or very young children. Once you get down to the beach, it’s a fairly standard beach front, with stalls selling tat, and restaurants, cafes and bars. It’s very cheap for food and drink. You can’t buy Albanian currency outside of Albania, but they accept euros too. Unless you’ve organised an excursion, there’s not much to do other than the beach. The beach is very stoney, but apparently there are sandy beaches in neighbouring villages. This would be a great beach stop for children though, there are inflatables and diving platforms which looked like great fun! Read Less

Albanian Riviera And Its Villages This 6-hour tour is a pleasant scenic drive through the Albanian countryside and along the coast. There is a short stop at the natural spring and waterfall at Borsh. Food and drink are available at the local shops. The next stop is at Porto Palermo Castle. It has an interesting history and spectacular views. To get to the castle is a ¾ mile round-trip walk over rugged stones and loose gravel, up and down the hill. The final stop at Himare was simply an opportunity to buy a meal at a local restaurant. There are a few small shops to browse, but not much else to do here. The stops on this excursion were pleasant, but the scenic drive along the coast was equally enjoyable. Read Less

This tour was the highlight of our visit to Albania! Our guide took us on a walking tour of Sarande and then it was off to the park. The ride to the Blue Eye National Park through the countryside was pleasant. The Blue Eye was beautiful, we enjoyed walking through the park, learning the history of the dragon, and putting our feet in the spring water. The views from Lekuresi Castle were magnificent. We saw the blue eye springs it was not very much for most people and if you are really looking forward to a great experience I would not choose this one. I liked the quaintness of the area but most people did not.

I did the Archeological Albania tour, which was excellent. We took a short drive downtown to see the ruins of the synagogue (keep your expectations low – the ruins are basically just the foundation and there are only a couple of photos of the mosaics that were removed). Then we walked along the seaside promenade. In all we spent about half an hour in town. Then we drove to Butrint and spent about 2 hours there walking around the site. It was really interesting and the guide was great. The paths are gravel with some uneven stones, and part of the walk is on a forest path with rocks and tree roots. There are also lots of stairs, but you can do just the level part of the tour and then wait for the group for the last 40 minutes or so, skipping the part that goes up the hill and then back down the hill. There is some shade and there are a few places to sit. There is also a small museum on top of the hill. After the site visit, we went to Bar Livia (within walking distance of Butrint), where we were given a choice of wine, beer, soda or water plus 4 appetizers. It was very nice. Then we drove back to the ship. The tender ride is very short, maybe 10 min. Read Less

The port of Sarande in Albania was my least favorite, the port city appeared dirty and had a very industrial smog like smell to it. There wasn't much to do if you didn't do an excursion, and the excursion we did wasn't fantastic. We saw the ruins of Butrint, which were fascinating, but our guide wasn't very engaging, and moved through each area very slowly, leaving a lot of time for your mind to wander. You could also tell that Albania doesn't allot much funding to the preservation of it's ruins, as their mosaic floors (the part of the ruins I was most interested in seeing) were covered with sand to preserve them.
