Santorini is beautiful, but get up early to beat the crowds. We left Fira and headed to Oia first thing. There were about 50 tourists when we arrived, but there were thousands by the time we left. A cab took 5 of us up to Santo Wines for €40, and we had a beautiful wine tasting flight and tasting board. The views from there are gorgeous.

Way too crowded to do anything. You either need more time in port or make it clear you really have very little time to wander because of the crowds. It's beautiful and maybe staying there when cruise ships are not in port is the way to go. ...
We were warned before boarding the tender that things were busy ashore. There were 3 other large cruise ships in that day. Long queues for the cable car completely blocked the landing area so that later tenders could not even dock. I walked up the steep perilous donkey track and was nearly knocked over a wall by a donkey.

Of course there are great photo opportunities but Santorini is way overrated we think. It was fun once but now there’s way too many people, far too busy and you’ll be fighting through the crowds just to take another picture of a white and blue building on the cliffs.

If you visit this port during the busy season be prepared for large crowds. It takes forever to get off the ship, then to get on the tram to take you up to the city and then you will wait in long lines to catch the tram back down . It just is too many people! ...
