Once again only a three hour stop and only got to see a fraction of the island! Once again we found our own transport for a fraction of what the ship was charging!

We have spent 4 days on Santorini two years ago, but it was a nice place to visit again. There was a short wait for the cable car from the port up to the town as there were two cruise ships in port that day. Cost each way on the cable car was 6 euro per person. They have alot of souvenir shops and some quality shopping. This is not the place to go if you have difficulty walking as all the streets are cobblestones. Read Less

We did our own thing in Santorini. Getting off the ship, we found one of the Transfer Boats to Oia that included the boat ride to Oia, a bus drive up the hill and a bus transfer back to Fira. BE WARNED....... the bus ride up the hill is misleading. You need to walk up a very steep and long hill to get to the bus. If anyone has a medical condition, hard time walking, etc., you will not be able to do it. Also, there is one dock at the port in Oia for the larger boats and catamarans..... there was a lineup of boats to get to the dock to have people get off / and on. Read Less

Almost had to miss this port because of high winds which forced the island to close down the cable car, so our tenders also stopped. The winds died down and we were able to go around noon, so the day was a little shorter. I was in Santorini 8 years ago and was disappointed by the disappearance of the blue roofs because the blue paint is hard to keep up expense-wise. It took so much of the beauty away. The town was totally overrun by tourists. Read Less

We took a ferry to Oia and hiked 6 miles (10k) back to the ship along the rim of the island. We had to tender in from the ship, then wait a long time for the ferry, then wait again for the bus to take us up the hill to Oia. Although we were one of the first off the Veendam, it was almost 11:00am by the time we started our hike. It was extremely hot and miserable! There was no shade, no vegetation, and this was in the middle of a heat wave. My experience on Santorini was not good. Read Less

By attending the port talk the night before, we learned about taking the fast boat from Fira to Oia for 15 Euro. It was fun and efficient and provided great views from the prettiest town in Greece.

We arranged our own tour of Santorini with The Travel Insiders. The guide was waiting for us in Fira right where she said she would be. We were taken all around the island - Black Sand beach, highest mountain point on the island, and a nice walking tour through Oia and finally back to Fira. We had dinner while the sun set in Fira and the location was beautiful - however the dinner was more than $600 euro for 5 of us. We had spaghetti pasta with a large lobster and two bottles of wine. Getting that bill stopped our heart but the day was so nice we just paid and moved on. Not sure the view or the food was worth that. Read Less

There were 2 smaller boats in port at the time. Santorini is beautiful and we have stayed there in the past so were quite content to wander around Thira and enjoy the views with a glass of wine.
