A pretty dismal port. Stayed on the ship mostly aside from having a look at the local shops on the dock. Not much of interest there. There were a couple of boat trips you could take from the dock area. We missed out on those as we were too late getting off the boat. Had a nice relaxing day on the Lido deck though so it was all good :) Read Less

Short hike in Cerro San Gil to two waterfall fed pools. Refreshing to get in the water, kids loved the snails and especially the tadpole to frog season.

It poured rain all day long, so my excursion to Amatique Beach Break & Lobster lunch was not great. In my opinion it should have been cancelled. We could not use the beach, we did use the pool which was nice. But the wind and rain made us chilly. The lobster was large and quite good but that was the one highlight of the entire day. On a sunny day this would have been a lovely stop. We did manage to get a boat back an hour earlier than scheduled. Read Less

Locals were a bit pushy. It was raining outside, and leaking inside. The lengthy walk from the ship prohibited many from leaving the ship. Crew and website warnings kept us from wandering into the city. Prepare to barter hard.

Ugly port, surrounded by razor wire. The 'building' for local crafts was stifling hot and vendors very aggressive with little to no English, and of course cash only. We thought we would be okay with a nice excursion to Amatique Bay Resort. Not! This may qualify as my worst shore excursion ever! First, the water taxis are FAST, especially going back. I've been on boats all my life and not afraid of water, but I do NOT think these guys were responsible in how they drove these loaded vessels over sometimes choppy water. Be prepared to get quite wet. The only good part of the tour was the kayak part. Those guys did an okay, though brief display of how to use the boats, and excellent job of ensuring everyone got in and out safely, and then mostly laughed at us on the trip. Really nothing to see. Just scuffy jungle on boring, canal type 'river', no wildlife other than iquanas at the take out point. After that it went even more downhill...rude guy at the 'resort'...herding everyone around, not letting us get drinks, or explore. We were supposed to get 'ample time to enjoy the beach, large pool and swim up bar" By the time we were back from kayak, and finally got a drink, we barely had 20 minutes to drink that and rest a few minutes, before they were yelling at us to get back on boat. And there was no reason we all had to leave. there were several events all leaving from same place and boats (water taxis) running back and forth almost continuously. It could very easily have been a shuttle service with time allowed for us to actually relax. The whole experience was so bad, it's turned me off to amost the whole country at time time. Don't go! This was a fun place to see the local way of life and the outskirts of the port town. We went to Castillo de Felipe which is a small fort on a large lake. We did a boat ride on the lake which was nice, but the boats were a bit crowded.

I went to a beautiful beach, about 20 minutes by a small boat across the bay....and spent a lovely day there. Good drinks, water not as nice as some other beaches, but a great day. Area clean and very well maintained.

This was a great stop as well. We wanted to see a bit more of Guatemala than just the beach. We took the kayaking on the Rio Dulce tour with GowithGus. It was fantastic. My family was the only family on the tour and we had our guide to ourselves. She was full of information and gave us a great tour. We not only got to see the wildlife on the Rio Dulce, we also explored Livingston with her. Read Less

the ship docks in a container port so there is no where to walk to. once you get off the ship there is a large warehouse with indoor market selling some nice handmade crafts just remember to barter to about 1/4 of their starting price. Outside there are many taxi and mini buses taking you on a trip or boat companies taking you up the dulce river and Livingston. Each company just seemed to wait until they had a boat full then their guide took the next boat out. Happy fish were the main company but there were other inside the warehouse. We went with blue creek but they all appeared to do the same. approx. $45 up river dulce canyon, lily ponds, stop at a native house, hot springs, lunch in Livingstone then beach. So a full day. Be outside as early as you can as the same boat stays with you for the day so once all the boats have gone thats it. Read Less
