Cabbies/tour operators tried to rob us blind. They have a price board just outside the terminal which states $15/person ONE WAY to the mall for a 3 hour shopping spree. We asked the price to return to the boat and were told $80/each to return. We've never paid more than $40/couple to tour any Caribbean Island, so we tried to negotiate. However, the Straw Boss told the driver to let us go and move on to the next sucker. Back in the terminal we found Bacardi 8 year old rum, in 1 liter bottles for $10@. Unbelievable!! We bought 10 bottles to bring home. Read Less

Not much of a beach port but if you like history, it's a really neat, very old city. We booked a private tour guide to show us around and he was fantastic!

This stop was cancelled due to weather. At least that's what the Captain said. We stopped at LaRomana which isn't that far away. We took the Top 10 of LaRomana and it was nice. Again, a lot of walking. Friends did Santo Domingo as a shore excursion and was a 2 hr bus ride both ways. They said they felt unsafe due to street vendors and there were armed soldiers everywhere. I think this was the real reason we didn't dock there. Read Less
