We opted for a private bus tour of the Golden Circle with Grayline Bus. It was the most aggravating experience. The tour was delayed by 2 1/2 hours. Communication was abysmal and almost non-existent. Nerves were frayed so it was a very bad start to the tour. I had done this tour back in 2000. I felt bad for anyone who was in Reykjavik for the first time. It was a good thing we were overnight in port. Otherwise, I fear we would have missed the ship if it were a regular departure time. Read Less

Had a rental car again, and work an overnight stay we were able to cover a lot of ground. Hraunfosser was spectacular - we covered a northerly route the first day, hitting the Golden Circle highlights. We got up at 4 AM the next day to make sure we had ample time for a drive to Fjadrargljufur Canyon, which is well worth the lost sleep. It has just opened for the season the day before, and words can't do it justice. Read Less

We were disappointed that our Northern Lights tour was canceled due to weather conditions but were glad to at least visit this wonderful city.

Eight of us in our group set up and hired a private guide for 2 days. Wonderfull experience. We found the guide through this site. Much cheaper than anything offered by NCL.

OK to walk around. Would have preferred the tour to the Blue Lagoon, Viking museum and Geothermal fields, but NCL screwed us out of that.

Have visited Reykjavik before and done the normal excursions so this time we walked from the ship (berth about an hour's pleasant walk along coast or £18 return on shuttle bus provided by port) to the harbour area. Harpa cultural centre is a good stop for film on Iceland, shopping, free wi-fi and free toilets (not always the case in Iceland!). Harbour area is interesting with several museums/galleries and interesting eating places (including my favourite Valdis ice cream opposite maritime museum!) Read Less

We spent 2 days at this port so first day we booked this 10 hour tour. It was crazy trying to find tour bus at port. We saw 2 big waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beach was great.

We rented a 9 px van with two other couples and drove around Iceland. Very expensive country but beautiful and interesting. Eurocar is right at the port though I rented from Hertz who picked us up at the port.

We wanted to be away from the crowds of cruise people who had signed up for the Golden Circle so booked our own small independent tour in a smaller vehicle.
