Nice little island but not much to see unless you do a tour. Plenty of local taxi's near the port offering tours of the island - all very expensive, but got to do it once.

Not much to do but walk the town. We tried to rent motor scooters but this required going to the police station, taking a written drivers test followed by a test in a vehicle. Not worth the hassle.

Actually took a Glass Bottom boat tour with Capt Tama tours through the ship. What a pleasure! The snorkeling was in shallow water, and the beach time was heaven!

We reserved ahead by internet a car with Avis. Drove the entire island and had lunch at a little cafe. Shopping is pretty abundant here, so take your credit card. A few of the shops have exquisite hats, but be prepared to carry or wear it home as it won't pack in your bag. The dock is a good walk from the town, wear walking shoes. You MUST get a New Zealand drivers license here, so take your home drivers license/ID with you. It was $20 US dollars and is good for Atutacki as well. Read Less

Lovely island & with the exchange rate of American dollars into New Zealand, it was a good place to shop. The Koka Lagoon Cruise was a lot of fun.

This island is lush and mountainous and is where most of the Cook Islanders live and work. The coral reef surrounding the island is closer to shore so the lagoon is much smaller and there are not as many nice beaches and only a couple motus. Here we booked a ship tour called "Raro 4X4 Safari"--unfortunately our vehicle had a substitute driver so the narration was lacking. Overall it was dissapointing for the price--we first went up a rough road to a lovely lookout point and thereafter stopped a a few other places around the island to see remains of ancient temples. We stopped at a nice beach area to use the bathroom but were not given much time to look around before we were hurried back to the truck. At the end of the 3-hr. tour the guide dropped us off in town so we could wander around and check out a few shops before returning to the dock to tender back to the ship. Read Less

Rarotonga is pretty great, you can walk for miles and miles. We went to the local market and picked up some fresh cut coconuts for drinking the milk. We walked around and shopped and just generally took it easy while we enjoyed the town. This island is allot more populated then Aitutaki and had a little more of a metropolitan feel, with the lush mountain backdrop. Read Less

Clean, English speaking, attractive to Aussies and Kiwis. Hope to come back someday. We visited a total of 14 ports but couldn't list them here.

We arrived here on a Sunday, so many shops were closed. We opted for the snorkeling excursion and loved it. Amazing waters and more amazing fish. This was followed by a barbecue on a small islet across the lagoon.
