This was the hi-lite of the trip. So much to see …..explored the Frontenac building, took an elevator to the top and on the way down, otherwise you can walk steep steps but would probably take you half a hour to climb all these steps. The streets had musicians and dancers entertaining tourists, this is a happy city where people enjoy themselves to the fullest. Read Less

Unless you want to go to the Waterfall, getting around Quebec on your own is easy. The old city is compact and you can take the funicular to upper city and the Chateau Frontenac. Great lunch cafes. Try a maple syrup on ice pop.

The newish Museum of Civilization is about 2 blocks from the boat and worth significant time. Very well done History of Quebec permanent exhibit explains the French side of things. Take the guided tour. Then walk/ride up the hill to the basilica. The Frontenac hotel is a couple of more blocks, then the citadel is a couple more. You have sort of made a loop and are still not very far from the boat. The above will take up your day. Read Less

Quebec City was incredible! Be prepared to walk, A LOT! And, be prepared for hundreds and hundreds of stairs! I love to walk, and wow, did I walk a lot - like 14 miles! It's a lovely town, reminding me of a place in Europe. There's lot of interesting history, and are many churches and old buildings to see. I had found a self guided walking tour in Frommer's, and did that, twice - once with my husband and once with my son. If you have to choose between the two, I'd choose upper town over lower, but did get to see both. Read Less

Walking around Quebec City was delightful. We had booked an excursion, but got bumped from it and were not notified until we tried to pick up our tickets the morning of the scheduled excursion.

It was raining a bit...there is a great cruise ship dock but the spaces were occupied by other ships and so we parked a fare way around the corner. I had done a bit of research so when I left the ship I didn't take the $15. U.S. shuttle bus and instead I jumped in a waiting taxi and he took me up to the Chateau Frontenac at the top of the city...$8.00 Canadian. I saw the sights, had breakfast at the hotel, walk about...took the Funicular down to the lower historic city walked about...had coffee and pastry and then walked back to the ship...big saving over the shuttle price...TAKE A CAB! Arrived 5 days prior to cruise to enjoy this beautiful City. Weather was perfect except for cool, rainy day on Sunday. This did not stop us from walking to and visiting the Citadel. Our small boutique hotel was perfectly locatedd across from the Hotel Frontenac and just baove Basse-Ville (lower Quebec). A true walking City with much to see as it was decorated for the Thanksgiving weekend. We found great restaurants, enjoyed the food tour, Hop on Hop off tour, night lighting of the Frontenac and quaint streets. Lots of tourists intown, but were able to avoind crowds at most places. Will definitely return for a longer visit. Read Less
