Tour guide could have cared less. Dumped us at flea market, tequila store, jewelry store, and old town where he said - bus will pick you up in 90 minutes, there are some places to eat. Passengers ready to revolt. We took a cab back. Complained to cruise desk and they gave us our money back plus the cab fare. Excellent Walmart superstore 1/2 mile from cruise ship terminal. Read Less

Long ways to get into town, taxi or other transport drivers don’t carry change. People in the town will NOT give you proper exchange rate. Worst of the three ports for people pocketing money and playing dumb

After agreeing on a price for touring the city, we were treated to the old "bait and switch" when we returned to the port. The price changed to a PER HOUR amount instead of PER TOUR. Lesson learned!

Nothing really within reasonable walking distance from the cruise dock. There are some flea market type shops, but the prices are inflated compared to Puerto proper. Once in town, streets are in real rough shape and a lot of the buildings are worse. A good chunk of town looks like it's about to collapse any second. Even out in the residential areas, the million dollar mansions aren't too impressive. The people are some of the nicest I've ever met though. I think the highlight was just casual conversation with the people of Puerto Vallarta. Just some lovely lovely people, even when they're not trying to sell you anything. Read Less

We didn't make reservations for any shore excursions, actually we had thought we didn't want to leave the ship, it's beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it was hot and we just wanted to be comfortable. Well, didn't last long, we ended up taking a taxi down to the Boardwalk and walked around the shops, where we actually ran into a Starbucks, had some iced tea on onward. We shopped and later had ended up at Hard Rock for lunch. Like I had said, just wanted to shop a little and not do much, this was perfect. As I had said before, we had been there the previous year and had done a city tour, tequila tour/tasting and lunch in the jungle. We had just wanted to relax this time. Read Less

Booked on our own the Dolphin Signature Swim with Sea Lions swim for 150.00 per person. Great time coming off the ship the taxis will try to get you to take them for $25.00 a person. I informed them that if I walked out side that I could get a taxi for $20.00 for the both of us and they agreed to the price. If you want to do the dolphins with out the taxi expense you can do it at Cabo within walking distance of the pier but don't know if they have sea lions and Cassandra was a kick in the pants. Loved the shopping at the pier and the places that had 3 bottles of beer for $5.00. Love it next time might just do that because we already did the dolphins and Sea lions. Make sure you watch for the Iguana's in the tree's if you go to Dolphin Adventure's they are hugh. Read Less

Our first port was puerto vallarta~ we went on a beach in walking distance, the locals were relentless in wanting us to buy things from them. I mean every 2-3 minutes someone would come up to us.. I don't think I've said NO so many times in a 3-4 hr period!! There was a resort, can't remember the name of it and we used their chairs and umbrella.. a security guard came up and told us we'd have to pay 20.00 to use it..but he didn't want me to pay right then.. My husband was skeptical, but all I could imagine is being taken away by the mexican police for not paying.. At the end of our day, I went to go inside the building and the security guy was walking near me.. He pocketed my money and then asked if my husband was nearby.. of course he was and I left. So, I was probably taken, but just a very strange situation. Read Less

Appeared dirty. Walmart is the first thing you see pulling into port. Overly developed with large building and heavy traffic. Would not go back.
