363 Puerto Quetzal (Antigua) Cruise Reviews

The view of the smoking volcano was worth the whole day. Jade museum is interesting and has nice items for purchase. The Mayan women hawking cheap souvenirs in Antigua can be annoying.

We flew to Tikal which was spectacular although rather too rushed for such a large site.

Loved Antigua! Great location. Our tour lady was helpful, kind, a little difficult to always understand but I speak Spanish so not a big problem. Would’ve liked a bit more information about places.

Self-guided walking tour of Antigua. The bus trip was two hours one way. There were many bus loads of people. The buses couldn't fit into the old streets, so two shuttle buses were used to take people from the bus parking lot to a drop-off point in Antigua. This took time. The cobblestone streets are rough rocks, not worn cobbles. Walking on and/or crossing the streets was treacherous. The sidewalks are narrow, but they do have them. The main plaza was large and well-kept. Street vendors and persistent and pervasive. Going back to the ship was the same waiting waiting waiting for the shuttle bus, waiting for the bus, long ride back to the ship. Missed late-seating dinner. Read Less

Really good guide, gave so much information, loved the city and atmosphere. Only negative we were looking forward to the included meal of local food, have to say it was disappointing, it was bland and tasteless.

The ride to Antigua is 1.5 - 2 hours, so you see a lot of the Guatamalan countryside including volcanoes and farms/crops for exportation. Antigua was built in the 1500s, and the architecture and city are fascinating. Well worth the time to get there. Read Less

We found out well in advance that there is nothing at the port apart from a few shops, so a shore excursion is a must (this was the only place we did a shore excursion). My wife and I split up - she did "Colonial Antigua" and I did the volcano hike. My wife's feedback was that she loved the city of Antigua but they had too little time there - they spent most of their tour driving there and driving back. I loved the volcano hike but be warned - it was steeper than we expected. I enjoyed the workout but there were quite a few who paid the local entrepreneurs USD20 to be walked up on a horse. Only a few weeks after we returned, the Royal Caribbean tragedy in New Zealand occurred, where about 15 shore excursion passengers on a volcano hike on White Island were killed. The Guatemala volcano was spewing rocks while we were there and is definitely active. No way I would do it after seeing what happened in NZ. Read Less

We chose Antigua and it was a very long drive going there with traffic due to road construction. Took 2 1/2 hours just going to Antigua and there is nothing much to do there so it is not worth the time for this excursion
