Progresso is still primarily authentic Mexico and not a big tourist spot. It seemed very safe despite things I was told or read. Very good cultural experience for my family. The beach was not as nice as Cozumel but overall I preferred this port. ...
Progresso has never really impressed me, but I can understand the appeal. You dock at the end of a very long pier. In fact, the world's longest pier. There is a small shopping area there and you must go through it if you want to take an excursion or visit the town itself. The shopping area is much like Cozumel. Lots of jewelry, t-shirts and over priced trinkets.

Lots of people pushing you to come into their shops and buy things but that's to be expected. We didn't do an excursion here, we just hung out and walked about. It's so interesting to see how people live in other countries, I felt like we really got a feel of how they live there. I liked the culture feeling and learning about their customs and culture. ...
