The free beach is worth a trip! Nice sand, though lots of shells so wear water shoes! Seaweed wasn't too bad, plenty of cleared sand to lay on. We didn't see any sand fleas, ants, or other bugs in January. Vendors walked around but weren't very pushy. Ate at Eladia's bar right by the entrance from the mercado where the shuttle bus drops you off - low prices, clean bathrooms, good food! ...
Do not care much for Progresso. They drop you at what looks like a flea market and everybody trying to sell you trinkets and are pushy. Best way to get rid of them? Make them a ridiculous low offer. Wife and I got a massage for $30.
Beach bar tried to charge us $25 to sit in their chairs.
Ended up $25 plus tip for chairs and 4 beers.
Got hasseled by traveling vendors every 5 minutes.
After 4 beers we left the beach and got a massage.
Bought 2 hats.
Progresso only good for a massage and cheap shopping.
The beach is unbearable with vendors. ...
We weren't supposed to stop at this port, itinerary called for Costa Maya but we were rerouted here. I had asked around about this port and the general consensus was to stay on the ship and I wish I had. Not much to do but shopping and it wasn't good. People stopping you every 5 steps to try to get you to go in their restaurant, get you a lounger and umbrella, buy this or that- enough already! If ...
