Port Arthur is a serene and beautiful stop. You can go and just walk around the historic site yourself or if you choose, select a number of tours that you will pay for.

This was a tender port. The tendering process was extremely good and equal to the tendering experiences we have had on any of our other cruises. Crew were very efficient and courteous.

We took a tour to look at the geology of Tasmania - the coastline was impressive. I enjoyed the trip - not too far and it was impressive. No need to do a tour though, you can get the tender to shore and stroll around the old Port Arthur Prison site which is very impressive and is free to do. Port Arthur is someway away though from anything else. Worth going ashore to see the Prison site though. Read Less

Tenders were expertly handled and there was minimal waiting time. A beautiful, picturesque, yet eerie place to visit - and the history is astonishing! Would love to go back one day and do a ghost tour!!

We took a cruise excursion to the Unzoo. The guide was excellent but the stops not quite as good and not really worth the money. We stopped at a chocolate factory which wasn't really able to handle the tour group size. Then we stopped at the Unzoo. IT is a VERY small sanctuary trying hard to put on good tourist show. But they are short staffed and have few animals. Not really able to cope with a 50 person bus tour. We were rushed and late at each stop. Princess would be better off setting up a small tour group or touring the old penitentiary instead. Not a very good tour. Read Less

A quick tender ride and you were in the grounds of the Port Arthur site. We had plenty of time to walk around the site, and felt no need to book and pay for an additional tour.

Port Arthur was very poorly organised on behalf of both Princess and the excursions team, as well as the local guides and management. It was a shambles when we arrived dockside for our tour even before then when tendering... The tour itself was rated as the best tour to take in Port Arthur if you didn't want to see the convict/settlers quarters. Our guide was extremely unknowledgeable and lost, wondering around aimlessly and straying from our group; when asked questions she could not answer and jovially admitted to making up the answers. The driver was no better. This aspect of the tour was disappointing and I learnt absolutely nothing from them. The sites we saw though was amazing - the wine tasting, lavender farm and tessellating pavements was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed that. The dog line up was a waste of time and most of the sites were closed or unexplainable, and the tour guide preferred to walk us through some nearby flea market - kind of ridiculous! The lavender farm was a standout - the best part of the tour! New facilities, divine little morning tea put on with freshly made lavender infused treats like lavender scones, lavender jam, lavender relish, tea and coffee. The 5 minute explanation and video by the team there on lavender farming, milling and its purpose was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. The grounds are picturesque and pristine. I would definitely return to the grounds again if ever in Tasmania. Unfortunately the disorganisation of the port and the unprofessionalism of the guide let the tour down. Read Less
