Did the walking tour that is included in all Princess Cruises, so you dont actually have to book or pay extra. Just a little hard to find where it is leaving from. Very informative. A little different from what we are led to believe in Charles Dickens style novels. Well worth doing, and its not often you get something off Princess for free! Read Less

Stunning destination. Did a food and wine tour which was let done by the elderly, cranky tour guide. Others who did the same tour with a different guide, the owner of the company, had a much better time. It was very rushed.

Port Arthur was extremely interesting, a very peaceful and beautiful, historic place, but sad as well when you learnt the stories about its history as a penal settlement. We only did the free walking tour, then did our own thing. There was more to see than you could cover in a single day but we managed to see what interested us most, using the map that was given to us. Staff there were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I just wish Carnival would have informed us that our cruise included the entry fee into Port Arthur ($30-something pp). I'd paid for our entry online prior to the cruise, then had to go to the Visitors Centre to have it refunded. Read Less

Tender port with tenders docking in Port Arthur itself. As a result no entry fee and you can wander at your leisure. Greeted by Port Arthur staff offering maps and information. Expect lots of walking.

Instructions to catch bus trip not all that accurate, however once trip commenced, again informative and allowed us to stretch our legs and have a wander around at a number of places.

We have been here before and found this to be a very interesting and entertaining port. The historical site is fascinating and you can easily spend several hours there. There were also other excursions available such as the ecological tour that we did (which was overpriced and not worth the $140 it cost) that can be arranged through P&O. Read Less

This was our second time to PA, and a lot of changes had been made to visitor information, but overall it was pleasant, with good weather.

This is a tender port and you take a 10-15 minute ride in from your cruise ship. This is the first prison that the British set up in Australia, and has a very interesting history. No pre-booked tour is needed, just go at your own pace. When we arrived at the dock, one of the Port Arthur staff provided a free 30-minute intro tour that was very well done and interesting. During March 2017, the visitor center was still under re-construction. Free wi-fi is available in the coffee shop next to the "Separate Prison". Using the brochure and map that they handed out, we wandered around the prison, hospital, chapel, and gardens for about 2-1/2 hours before returning to the ship. The signage and information iin the buildings is very well done and makes for an interesting tour. Read Less
