I didn'nt like the Penang port at all, they don't even try to make it look appealing for visitors, and had i only seen Georgetown i could of understood why, however on our way back to the ship we were taken through the more modern side of the city, there is no reason why they couldn't slap a bit of paint around if nothing else. As for the tour...we were very late getting off the ship, i don't know whether that was the ships fault ( partly i think) or the chaos outside with the tour guides etc, but we didn't enjoy it, arrived late to the temple of a thousand Budhas, it was closed, not really set up. To take international visitors just looked like a building site really, the view was to die for the toilets were'nt. We then went on to the furnicular train to the top of Penang Hill, we had to wait around for the next run, half an hour, you would think that having hundreds of people coming to view the hill from the ship that they might of put on extra runs. They expected us to spend spend spend, but most of us didn't have the currency, which was my main concern i was hoping to get some when i got off the ship, but that was'nt possible even if we did have time, as a new cruiser i was'nt aware that i could of got it on the ship prior to arriving ( big lesson learnt there) when the guide found out that we didn't have money she was very put out about and verbal about it all. It was dark and pouring with rain ( not that that could be helped) by the time we got to the top of Penang Hill, i thought we were supposed to go to a Historic Hotel and to see the old village , but none of that happened. Basically apart from the Penang Hill view, we just spent most of our time waiting, and couldn't wait to get back to the ship. Driving through Georgetown wasn't a highlight despite the guide being so proud of it, it was dingy and needed to be cleaned up a bit no pride at keeping its history alive at all, they took us through the modern side of the city on the way back to the ship, they obviously have SOME wealth, as we saw many oppulant buildings and hotels etc, would i visit Penang again, unfortunately NO, before heading there i would of said yes i would love to visit Penang, but for what I saw I wouldn't waste my money. - Woke up early and watch the ship docked at Swettenham Pier Cruise terminal in Penang. Our rooms directly face the port so we get a nice view of George Town.- Went for breakfast and proceed to disembark. Basically just need to scan our seapass card to exit the ship.- There are some pirates waiting just outside the ship for photo session.- Meet up with our driver/tour Guide from Ocean Jupiter for our Penang sightseeing tour in 9 seater van. (40 RM per hour. Min 5 hours).- Our driver is Mr. Michael Fong who is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly (highly recommended).- He took us around George Town. First stop is the Pinang Peranakan Museum (Green Mansion). - It is a beautifully preserved peranakan mansion with original furnitures and fixtures. The best peranakan museum I have been to. (much better than the Singapore one).- Then he took us to eat loh bak from a famous stall, followed by chendol, char kway teow from the 2 sisters and air itam Penang laksa. On hindsight, we should have taken a light breakfast (or even skip it).- Next stop is Kek Lok Si temple. We went straight to the top unlike the tour buses that stop at the bottom and require the passengers to climb all the way up the stairs.- Next stop is a shop selling Penang Tau sar piah.- Last stop is the Penang Butterfly Farm. This place is quite far and took us almost 1 hour to reach. But along the way we get to see beautiful Penang beach along Batu Ferringhi.- Michael informed us that the butterfly farm will be closed on 8 March till December 2015 for renovation so we were quite lucky to see it before it’s closed.- We actually wanted to do some shopping but due to time constraint we decided to return to the ship. The all aboard time is 5:30 PM and sail away at 6 PM.- We reached the ship around 5:20 PM. We went straight to the balcony to watch the sail away. We waited till around 6 PM and saw that the crews have not closed the gangway. Then we saw a group of tardy passengers taking their own sweet time to board the ship and finally the crews closed the gangway and the ship is ready to leave.- Tonight dinner at MDR is special because they served NY Strip steak!!! The wife and I had 1 serving each and another 1 serving to share. Our best dinner on the ship. (We did not want to spend money eating at Chop or Giovanni). Read Less

We just walked around the city, exploring China Town and India Town. Only negative was the "sidewalk" area just off the landing. There and concrete pavers about 2 feet by four feet with about a five inch grass strip between them. I stepped on the grass and my foot went down about four inches and I fell flat on my face. Luckily I landed on my hands and knees and just got a bruised hands and bloody knees. Was able to get up and continue to town. Read Less

Great service, highly recommendable as we had a Malay driver with Chinese descent and we received an excellent historical tour and eventually a little beach treat. Read Less
