Paris to Normandy - First Timers

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Avalon Tapestry II

Being first timers overseas we missed a few bases. Paris arrival should have been a few days before our departure on the Tapestry II, but that's our fault.. Leaving the states late in the day, our flights and arrival were uneventful and Avalon rep was waiting with a huge smile upon landing in Paris. (Note: for those with walking difficulty, extremely important for you to make arrangements for ...

Fabulous River Cruise

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Idi

Paris to The Swiss Alps - this was my first river cruise. Chose Viking on its fine reputation and it didn't disappoint. Everything from airport arrival pick up, embarkation, disembarkation, and return to airport went smoothly. The hotels were excellent. Everything about the ship was excellent:, staff, service, amenities, food - couldn't be better. The tour guides on the excursions were ...

This cruise was our second, booked our first night aboard our first Viking cruise, Romantic Danube in late March 2018. We wanted to take advantage of a Viking offer and a couple we met recommended this one as an excellent way to see France for the first time. (My stepmother, with whom I travel, has French ancestors and somehow had not yet been to visit this country.) After only a few hours aboard ...

Ok experience, for an American

Disclaimer - this was our first river cruise, and first cruise on a non-American ship, therefore hard to compare. Will give thoughts based on overall experience in case other nonEuropeans are considering. 7 day New Years cruise on Seine River. 2 cabins, 4 guests. (Including on child and one in a wheelchair) Expectations/Assumptions: smaller ship, older passengers, not a “party” ship, ...

Paris Holiday Cruise

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Joie de Vivre

The Parisian Royal Holiday cruise travels from Paris to Rouen and back, spending more days in Paris than a similar cruise that goes from Paris to Normandy. We chose it because of the length of the Paris stay and a big plus was the ship's berth on the Seine with a view of the Eifel Tower. We also prefer river cruising because the ships are more intimate and generally have fewer than 200 ...

25th Anniversary made extra special

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Viking Rolf

We sailed on two Uniworld cruises prior to our first Viking River Cruise. The itinerary and date on the Viking Rolf matched what we were looking for to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. The only low point was that several excursions were cancelled, including Versailles, due to the riots in Paris. Most attractions were closed during the organized demonstrations on the weekends in ...

First River Cruise

As with most people, we wanted to visit Normandy. Viking delivered on that. As far as comparing it to an ocean cruise there is no way. They are two different things completely. The crew was great. The ship was clean, and the rooms were quite large enough. I was surprised at the casualness of the whole trip. Embarkation-Just walked in sort of like a hotel. And you just walked on and off ...

Wonderful time!

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Kadlin

We really enjoyed our time on the Viking Kadlin and the itinerary to Normany. Visiting Normandy was truly a humbling experience. Meeting fellow passengers was delightful and the guided tours were superb. Our only disappointment was the quality of the food at dinner. Maybe because it was the last cruise of the season on the Kadlin but it seemed like we were served a lot of leftovers and not ...

It was on our bucket list and appealed to us on so many levels :-Historic(and different periods of history):- we learned on boat and then saw sites related to Joan of Arc, learned about the French Revolution and then of course, Dday visiting the beaches of Normandy Art & Cultural- saw the Tapestry of Bayeux(which is unbelieveable in it's detail and story-telling); sampled many many local ...
