Noumea port of call
Came in this morning Tuesday 12 September 2017 on the P&O Pacific Explorer and had nothing planned.
I did not want to do a ship’s tour and found very little information here, so this is what is on offer at the cruise terminal.
City Highlight Noumea Tours – a double decker red bus offered a 90 minute tour for $A25..

I would advise to take the hop on hop off bus, there are two companies one aligned with the cruise ship and another local firm. Note the local firm was cheaper and seemed to have more buses. ...
I spent the entire day with friends and visited places few tourists see and had authentic beautiful island food for lunch. I learned a lot of interesting things about the Kanak culture also. ...
Noumea is not my favourite place. Some in our group jumped on a bus and looked around which they said they enjoyed and the rest of us were happy just looking around the market. We also went to a French Patisserie called Les Petits Choux. It is a short walk one street back from the markets and is worth it. Very yummy. ...
Plenty to do and plenty to see. We have been on many Hop On/ Hop Off buses around the world, this would have the bottom ranking one of them all. No communication at all. Duty Free was ok here though. Market was very good too. ...
Took free shuttle from the ship to the Visitor Centre from where heaps of tours available - all much cheaper than available from the ship. Went for walk into the city - so much graffiti and litter. Purchased hop on / hop off bus ticket for $12 and saw a bit more of the city. Some pretty coastline but not that impressed with what we saw of the mainland. Bought some duty free alcohol from Marlene ...
It was a sunday just about nothing open. Only thing open was the markets up stairs at the terminal and the supermarket opposite was only open till 12.30. THis is a good place to purchase some snacks or drinks to take back on board. Also good to buy duty free alchohol if you haven't bought onboard. ...
Again, no real effort made to make visiting there appealing.....prices charged for everything in cafes (where all the passengers went to try wifi as Celebrity charge exorbitant rates) were also exorbitant, and this robbery didn't come with any kind of smile (or working wifi either)....again, we would have paid double what we did if the wifi worked, and any kind of effort had been made to create ...
Once docked at Noumea, there were shuttle buses to take us to the visitor's centre. You could book tours from there if not booked from the ship.
We booked the Hop On Hop Off bus - this is the best bus company to get as you are tracked the whole time and if something happens the ship will wait for you. It was $20 each.
There were eight stops on the tour - from memory there was a shopping ...
