We disembarked and were immediately set upon by numerous tour operators. In the end we chose a bus tour which was informative and then walked around the shops. The markets were a bit of a waste of time.

We went on the hop on hop off bus and the crew said we can get on and off anywhere, but this information was wrong and we could have missed the ship as they would not let us on due the colour of our tags, They are not very friendly to tourist nor helpful but are also expensive. I would have like to have had a bit more time to swim but not fussed. Not a place I would be in a hurry to visit again. Mare was a delightful island that we visited and it was amazing. Don't forget you goggles and snorkel. Well worth a visit. Read Less

It was a Sunday so unfortunately the city was closed. An excellent shuttle bus was provided ship to city centre which travelled very regularly.

Noumea, Nouvelle Caledonie looks like a tiny example of the French Riviera with its harbors filled with yachts. Everything is extremely pricey, more expensive than NYC, perhaps because they're imported, mostly from France. Delicious-looking but very expensive cheeses, chocolates, pastries, etc. fill the store shelves, especially the "Super Marche' ", that was already beautifully decorated with lively Christmas trees and other Holiday decors. The Noumeans mainly speak French but could speak a little English. They wear a ready and warm smile on their faces and seem quite happy. Read Less

It was a Sunday and the city was closed in the Noumea. The beach was average, so we spent the most of our time in a pub enjoying some Pina coladas

Just walked up the hill to Notre Dame of Pacific - lovely views not too hard as weather was good. They are redoing the waterfront area.

Nothing too exciting. Shops not that great. I did buy a wee turtle at the market and had to show that when re-entering Australia at disembarkation. Ice cream expensive. They did have out some welcome flags at the last shopping mall. If I did it again, I would probably just go to the beach across the road. Apparently there is a good chocolate shop not far from the terminal, but the bus wasnt going to stop. AU$20 (or 25, cant remember) pp. Island is only about 50km round, so not huge. Read Less

Other than when you first get off ship in the markets, everything was closed because it was a Sunday. All the tours were cancelled as we didn’t go there on the allotted day. Even the patisserie was closed, so disappointed.
